Democrats Lose Another One

November 16th, 2007 at 06:17pm Mark Noonan

Voter, that is - my father, 80 years old, just asked me to get him re-registered as a Republican so he can vote for Fred Thompson in the Nevada Caucus January 19th.

My father cast his first vote in 1948, as a Democrat…and after 60 years of watching his party become more and more unrecognisable, he’s decided to make party registration match reality.

Hey bitche, does it make you gleeful to report negative news to those who hate you?

Have you ever considered jumping in front of a bus? You’re wasting precious oxygen, oxygen that free-thinking people deserve.

You, bitche, are the reason 1H8L1B5…

What if Fred doesn’t get the nomination, Mark?

Isn’t it great when loved ones finally see the light. I may not support Thompson myself, but he’s certainly better than any Democrap. And we all know who that Democrap will be: Harpy Hillary.

    Whose reality mitch?

Military-wide statistics are kept by calendar year, so 2007 numbers are not yet available. The Defense Department’s 2006 calendar-year desertion total, 5,361, was an increase of 219 over the previous year and reversed a 3-year decline.

My dad made the same transition a quite some time ago. He was a Democrat when that party welcomed pro-lifers and actually represented the working class, before they created most of their social programs that take money from those who work and give it to those who don’t, and before they told pro-lifers and gun-rights supporters to go fly a kite.

Yet, he will still tell the story of his first voter registration. On the morning of his 21st birthday, his dad wakes him up and tells him to get dressed and come downstairs. So he does, to find that his parents have a guest, a local Democratic party official. The official and my grandpa then drive my dad down to the county seat, where he registers as a Democrat.

    Ricorun,

Oh, he’ll be voting against the Democrat - but right now he’s for Thompson.

    Bigfoot,

It was pretty much like that - especially for a family of Irish Catholics like we Noonans…my Godfather never switched, though he wasn’t thrilled with the Democrats. I’ll always treasure this phone call from early 2004:

Uncle Bruce: Mark, its your Uncle Bruce.

Mark: Hi Uncle Bruce, how’s it going?

UB: Just fine. So, who are you supporting in the Democratic primary?

    M: Well…

UB: Oh, yeah - I forgot, you’re The Republican.

    mitche,
Get your calculator and read the article very carefully. As the article states, the rate of desertion in 2007 was “nearly 7 per 1000.” The rate for 2008 was “about 9 in every 1000.” Accordingly, for the mathematically challenged, the rate in 2007 was nearly 0.7% and the rate for 2008 was about 0.9%. Did you see the not-so-fine-print? “Nearly” and “about”.

Further, the article states that desertion is up 42% since last year. Now, this number is not the increase in rate (which is about 29%, i.e., 0.9 minus 0.7 divided by 0.7). This number is the actual percentage increase in the number of deserters: 4698 (in 2008) minus 3301 (in 2007) divided by 3301. Now, if the rate remained exactly the same, the media could say the number of deserters has increase by a measurable percentage simply based on the percentage increase in the number of soldiers on the ground.

For a situation is that is allegedly so bleak, both rates are nearly negligible. In 1971, the rate of desertion for the army was 3.5% (http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-03-07-deserters_x.htm).
The reporter conveniently omits this number because it undermines the force of his report.

This type of reporting is typical. If the news isn’t bad, the libs simply make it up.

So true, eric; or, it the news isn’t bad, they’ll find something bad to take the sting off the good news. For example, here’s two, form the drive-by perspective:

    1. The surge is working; however, 2007 has been the deadliest year so far in the Iraq War.

    2. President Bush has directed the Pentagon to open up some military air corridors to help ease holiday congestion in the airways. However, the corridors won’t be open until late Thanksgiving Eve, after most travelers have taken to the air.

The drive-by media can take any good news, and find bad in it, if it doesn’t fit their template.

    Big Foot

A big “Amen” to what you said. My Grandfather would roll over in his grave if he seen what the Democratic party has turned into.

    Mark or Matt

I was Googling “Blogs for Bush” a few places down was and A blog called “Think Progress” that did a piece about “Blogs for Bush”. It is a pretty disgusting site, just thought I’d let you know if you did’nt already. If their is ever a shortage of libs to argue with on this site, you can find’em there.

Clearly, my dates should be 2006 & 2007. I shouldn’t post so early.

  • 19. eric  |  November 17th, 2007 at 11:37 am

    1H8L1B5,
More news we won’t see in the MM:

    http://michaelyon-online.com/wp/come-home.htm

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen any fighting. I can’t remember my last shootout: it’s been months. The nightmare is ending. Al Qaeda is being crushed. The Sunni tribes are awakening all across Iraq and foreswearing violence for negotiation. Many of the Shia are ready to stop the fighting that undermines their ability to forge and manage a new government. This is a complex and still delicate denouement, and the war may not be over yet.”

  • 20. Kahn  |  November 17th, 2007 at 12:02 pm

I believe that the Democrats have a problem. If the election was six months ago, or even now - they might win. But it’s not, is it? It’s a year away.

  • 21. coulterfan  |  November 29th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Oh, that’s too bad. . . I guess it DOES prove, however, that the Republican party and its ideas appeal to the elderly. Obsolete ideas, bigoted ideas, racist ideas- it’s no wonder that older generations which grew up accustomed to miscegenation, segregation, etc would find the GOP’s policies more comfortable.

The youth, on the other hand, are predominately Democratic.

    Go, Grandpa Fred, Go!
