Two Score and Three Years Ago
November 19th, 2007 at 12:01am Mark Noonan
I was born. A dark time for liberalism, to be sure.
Interesting facts about Mark Noonan:
Both his grandfathers were soldiers, his father and Godfather were Marines…so, naturally, he joined the Navy.
Born in New York, but never lived there.
Became a conservative by osmosis when his mother took him to a Goldwater rally a few weeks before he was born in 1964.
Is not quite able to recite the Lord of the Rings, but hopes to be able to do so one day.
Gets a twinge of regret when he remembers that the Holy Roman Empire is no more.
Has a Marxist sister.
Also has a conservative sister.
Has an interesting family.
Childhood memory: His mother explaining that we are the fruiting body on a global-scale algae plant.
I said the family was interesting, didn’t I?
Had a top secret security clearance but was told that there was a sort of top secret message he wasn’t allowed to read; ergo, there is Tippy Top Secret.
Kinda puts double-secret probation in perspective, huh?
Still wonders why Superman stands there to get shot at, but then ducks when the gun is thrown. Also wonders why a crook would throw the gun after he saw bullets bounce off the guy.

Happy birthday, Mark.
I hate to tell you this, but the Holy Roman Empire was none of the above.
If bullets, made of lead, bounce off Superman, then with what does he cut his hair or fingernails?
I was born in NY state, and lived there for most of my childhood.

Jeremiah,
Thanks, brother.
Bigfoot,
I know - Voltaire’s dictum, “niether holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire”…but what a concept of statesmanship! And thing of its successors - Bismarck’s Prussia, Hitler’s Germany, Euro-weenie socialism…I say, bring back the Hapsburgs!

Happy Birthday, Mark! There’s not much we agree on, I suspect, but I would still hope that you enjoy the day and have many more ahead.

Happy birthday, Mark. I remember 43 well — it was, as the old Sinatra song goes: “a very good year”. Hope yours is too.

I hope you had a great birthday and did something special. I hope you’re still seriously considering giving Dingy Harry a run for his money. I’d like to think I’m the first guy to have officially endorsed you!
Keep up the great work, as always. I’m sure you will. I guess that’s our present, on your birthday. Neat how that works!
May G-d bless and keep you throughout the next year and beyond.
