Romney Nixes Company That Employs Illegals

December 5th, 2007 at 01:37pm Matt Margolis

The Boston Globe has been creepily staking out Mitt Romney’s residence in Belmont, MA. The Globe, a liberal paper (which reliably endorsed Romney’s opponents during his two runs for public office in Massachusetts) is clearly on a mission to derail his candidacy for president. That mission to destroy Romney probably only takes second place to the Massachusetts Democratic Party.

Anyway, The Boston Globe discovered that a company hired to do work at Romney’s home had illegal immigrants working for them. After this report, Romney fired the company.

What interesting about this story is the fact that the Boston Globe admits staking out and surveilling Romney’s home for the past two months for this story. One would think that Democrats and Republicans alike would be outraged at this violation of privacy, especially since similar surveillance of terrorists would cause so much outrage by Democrats.

At least Romney did the right thing, when the company failed to rectify the problem, he got rid of them. Can the same be said for other politicians, particularly Democrats, who employ illegal immigrants for cheap labor on their properties? One example being Nancy Pelosi, who has illegals working on her and her husbands vineyards? Does the media stake out the properties of Democrats, who are not only breaking the law, but are clearly in a conflict of interest when they vote on immigration laws?

No, Republicans clearly are held to a higher standard. Democrats don’t seem to be held to any standard at all.

And Romney clearly passed the test. He took action. In a statement he had this to say about the matter:

“Today, I fired a landscaping company that I learned was employing people who are not permitted to work here in the United States. After this same issue arose last year, I gave the company a second chance with very specific conditions. They were instructed to make sure people working for the company were of legal status. We personally met with the company in order to inform them about the importance of this matter. The owner of the company guaranteed us, in very certain terms, that the company would be in total compliance with the law going forward.

That’s a much different attitude than, for instance, Democrats who campaign on rhetoric such as “the rich must pay their fair share of taxes,” while they keep much of their fortunes in off-shore tax shelters. No, Romney has taken the route of practicing what he preaches… which is more than I can say about other candidates.

I suspect Mitt (who did do the right thing) is going to get more flack from his own party presidential candidates than from the Democratic presidential candidates. Lets see what Rudy can come back with now. Maybe he (Rudy) will provide a good explanation of why the City of New York paid about $200,000.00 to protect and haul around his girl friend while still married.

I believe his words at the debate where, I am paraphrasing since I did not watch the show and only read about it, “What do you want me to do check the papers of everyone that comes on my property, that’s ridiculous?”

I guess a 1 or 2 point drop in the polls is all it takes for the flip flopper to change his view on a subject.

Hey… I heard he was FOR that company before he was AGAINST it!!

Matt, I agree that if the Globe was “creepily staking out” Mitt’s house, that is wrong. However, where does it ever say that they were staking out his house? Don’t you think they could have just found out if he was still using the same company that he had the problem with previously? The Globe could have easily found that out and found out if they were still using Illegals without “creepily staking out” his house.
