Candidates on Coffee

December 12th, 2007 at 10:32pm Matt Margolis

The AP had an interesting piece this evening on the coffee tastes of the presidential candidates. As serious coffee addict, I had to check it out…

DEMOCRATS:

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton: Sometimes black, sometimes with cream

Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards: Doesn’t drink it

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama: Black, but rarely drinks it

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson: Cream

REPUBLICANS:

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani: Splenda, Sweet’n Low or Equal, whichever is available

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: Splenda

Arizona Sen. John McCain: Cappuccino or coffee with cream and sugar

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney: Doesn’t drink it, has been known to have hot chocolate

Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson: Cream

Myself… my day must begin with a venti cup of drip coffee from Starbucks, with half-and-half. What really amuses me about this is that most of the answers were consistent. Most either like it black, with cream, or with sugar (or a sugar substitute)… and then there is Hillary who said she has her coffee sometimes black, and sometimes with cream.

Sounds like her ridiculous answer to Tim Russert’s question about which team she would root for if the Cubs and the Yankees ever met in the World Series. Hillary said, “I would probably have to alternate sides.”

It seems like this is another typical have-it-both-ways response from Hillary. Over something as trivial as a coffee preference.

Now I wouldn’t read that much into it, but it’s a funny idea. :)

Me? When I do drink coffee (Which isn’t often) it’s with Cream and Sweat N Low. :)

That is pretty funny. As a Democrat I have to say… Hillary has got to take a stand one way or the other. I don’t care about any of her other comments or beliefs, but when it comes to COFFEE that is where I draw the line!!!!

On a side note, why is it that none of the Dems take sugar, yet all the Repubs need some kind of sweetener? Maybe because the Repubs need something to sweeten up that foul taste in their mouths from all the ass kissing to the wacko right???

    Verrrrrrry interesting things to ponder.

By the way Mark, Dunkin Donuts is for me. I would drive by 5 Starbuck’s to get to a DD. But I still respect you for your coffee issues.

I’ve never understood Starbucks. Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly fine with them being sucessful but honestly, it’s coffee! Hell it’s a pain to get plain old normal coffee there. Sheesh…

Oh, and for those who’ve been to Hawaii which do you think there are more of? ABC stores or Starbucks? When I was there it was ABC store, Starbucks, ABC store, Starbucks. :)

Maybe because the Repubs need something to sweeten up that foul taste in their mouths from all the ass kissing to the wacko right???

Actually, Josie, the Donkaroaches have given up on sweetner, because no amount of sugar will erase the sour taste in their mouth. It results from having their asses handed to them by a lame-duck President.

Really, Matt, Starbucks? These people are the Ben & Jerry’s of coffee–IOW, a bunch of pinko-supporting libgressives. I wouldn’t be caught dead in Starbucks, although I must admit, when my wife brings a bag of beans home, I enjoy them. Guess I’m a closet hypocrite…

I get your point about Hitlery, Matt:

Q: How do you take your coffee?

Hitlery: (Licks finger, sticks finger in air) Tim, I can understand playing gotcha; after all, I was the frontrunner, you know…

Andrew Young: Well, Bill Clinton has always taken it black, more often than Obama.

Ummm… Slow day on the political / morality scene?

OT – Why are most posts missing all or part of the first character on each line that’s not indented?

What I prefer are flavored coffees, such as hazelnut, with cream and no sugar. I also like regular coffee with flavored creamers, which are usually sweet enough to render sugar unnecessary.

Speaking of which, I’ve never liked Starbuck’s, except when I can put a good amount of flavored creamer into it. I also think that any chain which has a size of coffee called “tall” is just a bit strange. How about just “small”, “medium” and “large”?

I just started drinking coffee two weeks ago (I just turned 36 recently and I had never drank coffee). I was a green tea guy, but I just thought I would try something different. I like just plain black coffee - no sugar, no cream.
