The best movie I’ve seen in ten years. If Will Smith doesn’t get a Best Actor, then it’ll be proof that everyone in Hollywood (other than Smith) has been lobotomized. A far superior adaptation of the original book than Omega Man from 1971.
Thats it. All you need. Go see the movie.
UPDATE: Matt saw the movie this weekend too. Click here for his review.

I read the novella about 10 years ago and really enjoyed it (and its definitely been an influence on that kind of fiction), but have heard both negative and positive reviews. But, I’ll take your advice and check it out. How do you think it matched up to the book?
winnow,
Its a bit hard to describe without putting out too many spoilers – but I’ll say that it adheres strongly to the spirit of the book. A great deal of what I liked about the movie is the same thing I liked about the book – the struggle of a man to deal with the ultimate loss of everything; the desperate attempts to solve the puzzle, the relentless attempts at keeping to a normal life…
Naturally, all such things are subjective judgements – you might go to the movie and hate it; though I doubt that would be the case – one can’t get around what a fine actor Will Smith is, while the direction, pace and cinematography is top notch.
I like ol’ Will–he’s funny and talented. I like him, and will continue to do so, even if he does suffer from libgressivism. Anyone know of his political views?
Will Smith is an Obama supporter. He was quoted in the NY Post as saying, “I think he’s what the future of America is going to be. Barack represents what I feel is the future of the optimum survival of America.”
I think Will is very talented and I am looking forward to seeing his latest film.
[...] on what the reviewer said was unconvincing special effects. However, my co-author Mark Noonan spoke very highly of the movie, saying it was the best movie he’d seen in 10 years, and that it was an Oscar-worthy [...]
1) Does it blame the virus on Bush, Cheney, or Halliburton?
2) From the previews I see a dog figures prominently in this film. Is there meaningful man-dog sex?
3) Are the zombies stereotyped as shambling, mindless, drooling idiots or do the come right out and call them Republicans?
The answers to these (and many other) questions will determine whether Will Smith or the movie will receive any awards. Smith is black and used to be a rapper so these are points in his favor. He doesn’t call for the death of Whitey or slap his woman around so these points are negated, though.
