Two Brilliant Ads From Mike Huckabee
December 18th, 2007 at 12:34am Mark Noonan
This one gives a person pause - and starts thinking about ways the whole political world can be turned upside down. This ad merely says “Merry Christmas”, but its going to cause a fuss precisely because of that - with Huckabee saying, “what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ”. This, for Christians, is no problem - but in 2007 America, a Presidential candidate isn’t supposed to say that, at least not without also praising some non-Christian celebration at the same time. The controversy will arise, and it will do nothing but help Huckabee out - given that he is running an insurgent campaign dependent upon volunteers and enthusiasm to carry him through the early caucuses and primaries - and this will make Evangelical Christians, especially, just that much more enthused for Huckabee. As Peter Robinson over at NRO’s The Corner notes, these ads likely reflect bedrock Huckabee - he doesn’t have the money for an army of consultants and spinmeisters to craft a message, so he pretty much has to do it on his own.
Governor Huckabee has completely blown it, in my book, on matters of foreign and military policy - point blank, he just hasn’t thought the matter through far enough. That, at least, is the only way I can explaine a worldview which is naive, at best. Be that as it may, he’s still miles ahead of any likely Democratic contender and should Huckabee gain the GOP nomination, he’ll get my support - and, actually, these two ads actually help me along because they show a man with a very savvy sense of politics (politics is the art of the possible - and the better a President is at politics, the more he can possibly get done).
I do wish that Governor Huckabee would rethink his foreign policy views and rework his proposals on the matter - failing that, I hope that if he gains the nomination, he picks someone with exemplary foreign/defense policy qualifications to be his VP as well as his prospective SecState and SecDef.

Nice floating cross in the background of his Christmas video.

The great thing about all of this exposure Huckabee is getting is that people and the MSM are steadily finding out what a duche bag he is. I’m not even going to get into the massive amount of garbage that is in this man’s back yard. On his policy ideas alone, as Mark mentioned, he is bad news but his personal and political life in general he is a new breed of politician we do not want running this country. “Where science and God disagree, I choose God” - this comment alone scares the bajesus out of me. Arkansas has the worst rating a state can get in Science curriculum and it largely because of this man. More than any other professions, this country needs scientists and mathematicians - he would work to undermine that. Lastly, what scares me most is that people tend to not (or at least it seems this way) personally research who they are interested in voting for - if people would research Huckabee they would immediately run in the other direction. But instead they will just go with whom ever they are told to vote for by their friends, their pastor… their dog (j/k).

Great ads indeed! There won’t be any fuss over the Merry Christmas ad though - that would be more of your imaginary “War on Christmas”.
I suppose you could say Huckabee lacks foreign policy experience, but as Rico pointed out in the last post, he does seem to have thought it through quite extensively. Have you read this and if so, what specifically do you object to? Or are you merely saying he doesn’t “get it” because he took a swipe at Bush last week?

Mark,
I don’t care about:
Manufacturing jobs gone.
China is funding our war.
US dollar at record low on world market.
Gasoline at 3.10 a gallon.
Iran won’t accept US dollar for oil.
Supermodel won’t accept US dollar either.
Home values plummeting.
Foreclosures at record high.
Stock market down.
Credit crunch looms.
Violent crime is up.
Minnesota bridges collapses/ Feds offer no help.
Conservative leadership mocks global warming.
Mayor of Atlanta prays for rain/ Worse drought in history.
Federal government offers no help.
Illegal population guessed at 7.5 million.
US schools rank at bottom of list for science and math scores.
School fights to teach Intelligent Design in science class.
Abstinence programs fail with teens.
More teens are getting pregnant.
Abortion rates increase for first time in 20 years.
STD’s are at an all time high.
Yep, the ability to say Merry Christmas is the most important issue facing the country. You have proven that a country gets the government it deserves.

The next Whitehouse Christmas Card?
I don’t think so. One of those sons is the dog killer, not sure which one. The other one tried to take a pistol through an airport recently.
And the father thinks the earth is flat. Fantastic.

I think Mike’s stance on Iran was better than Rudy,McCain or Mitt who were talking about bombing Iran. The Russians and Chinese would have more than likely backed Iran. Hezbollah would rise up, Hamas the whole gang. The Shia in Iraq would ramp up attacks on U.S troops. When you listen to Duncan Hunters message and realize the manufacturing base has been decimated here. If we attacked Iran and were relying on China for funding the war and selling us manufactured products to fight the war or for domestic use, then they turn and back Iran we’d be screwed. I don’t think we could handle a war with Russia and China. Mike made a call that makes him worthy of beign President.
Merry Christmas to everyone, even you libs, missin’ links, gun ban people, job outsourcing people, infant destroyers, Marxist yuppies. commies, and pinkos.

This ad is brilliant; right out of the Reverends’ Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Baker play book. I can see the Passing of The Loot right now to the Huckster campaign. Merry Christmas! 1/20/09

And the left’s answer for all those problems that NeoClown points out:
Timetables for withdrawing from Iraq, thus giving our enemies a gift on a silver platter,
Negotiate with terrorists and their enablers,
Bailouts for irresponsible lenders and borrowers (a worthy sequel to Bush the Elder’s S&L bailout),
Amnesty for illegal aliens (which, to be fair, is also shared by some on the right) under the pretty words “comprehensive immigration reform”,
Pass out more condoms to teenagers, and last but not least, that old standby…
Higher tax rates.

Bigfoot,
Those are the answers liberals give to every problem, being completely incapable of original thought.
To quote Dennis Miller, Neoclowns post is tedious, boring, trite and contrarian. Apparently this passes for liberal intellect these days.
I would like him to point to a period in history wherein America was free of problems, not too mention that some of his rants are baseless. What Neoclown doesn’t understand is that America is where it is today because people of courage approached past problems with a pragmatist optimism that saw them through their struggles resulting in the greatest country this planet has ever seen.
People like Neoclown would never be able to accomplish anything close to that.
That is why his posts, and many like his, need to be viewed by a jaundiced eye for the juvenile, self defeatist rants they are.

Some may disagree with me, but when we outsource thousands of jobs we create democrats out of those people and send them to unemployment and social services and welfare. The democrats fight to keep funding these programs, and the people see it and now because they are on these programs they vote for the democrats. Whoever we nominate as a Republican President I hope will remember this, because I feel it is a big part of the reason we lost in 2006. Mike Huckabee and Duncan Hunter bring this topic up and as a lower class workin man. I saw hope and became inspired by their messages. The Democrats will not even come into my state to campaign, so they offer no hope at all.

Neoclown,
All those problems you mention and then you go and make a really sarcastic stupid remark like that against the good man Mike Huckabee, only shows how disconnected from reality you really are, my friend.
What you don’t get, is that someone who DOES understand the cure all for all those problems is the person we need in our White House to help fix them. Christ entered the world as an example, and we are to follow that example. So, the choice we make for who want as our Leader is what we get, and if that Leader is not following the example of Christ then in effect, the only thing you accomplish, is support the damnation of this Nation.
I.e, Vote for John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and you are supporting Genocide of the unborn, more STDs, ZERO protection from your enemies. And so forth.
But whatever, if that’s how you feel abouut Christ and His message, then go right ahead, but you only prove that you care for no one but your pitiful little self, and that’s exactly the problem with this country today, is people like you and the brainless Uncommon who posted above you.

Asked about the ad today, Ron Paul decried Huckabee’s religious iconography with his own veiled reference on Fox and Friends:
“It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said. He says, ‘when fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.
Mark, Ron Paul is one of yours can you explain?
14. Eric T | December 18th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Neoclown,
You came to this site because the democrats don’t have good answers other than raising taxes. We do have answers for you. Neoclown… Mike’s Plan for Energy Indepedence could knock those gas prices down. His immigration plan is far better than what any of the dems offer. Who cares if Iran won’t take are dollar they have put santions on themselves. The Republicans in my state are proposing to cut the taxes on the homes losing value to offer relief to the homeowners paying taxes on the old value of their home just ain’t fair, If its worth less the tax needs to be less. The stock market will go up and down, it always has, It always will. A few bad days or even weeks, doesn’t mean a recession. The Violent crime and STD’s I think your reasearch is off.
15. Tractatus | December 19th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
Uh-oh, Mark, it looks professional whiner/your hero Bill Donahue is none too happy with the ad. When a guy as wingnutty as Bill Donahue says the ad is”injecting religion into politics even too far for guys like me,” that’s really saying something. And this statement probably isn’t going to score any points with you or the Jeremiahs of the world: “Yeah, I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion, but don’t become a salesman. Don’t hawk it like that on the street.”
If this is making your head hurt, I have a theory that’ll provide a nice escape hatch for you: That wasn’t the real Bill Donahue; it was a non-crazy lookalike.

Hey… Obama has now come up with a “Merry Christmas” TV ad now.
This must be brilliant from him too, right?

I read that Giuliani has an ad with Santa in it. Do you think that is really Bernie Kerick (sp?) in that costume???
