A Nightmare Pennsylvania Poll for Democrats

January 10th, 2008 at 05:31am Mark Noonan

Polls this far out are pretty worthless as indicators of what will happen in November, but as opinion polls last year were convincing Democrats that they would win this year, a poll like this has got to make ‘em nervous:

In the most recent Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Pennsylvania voters, John McCain leads Hillary Clinton 48% to 42% and Barack Obama 46% to 38%. No other Republican fares so well against the Democratic frontrunners.

No Pennsylvania = no Democratic President. Period.

Mark and AAR - yes but actually McCain is not the national front runner. In fact both Obama and Clinton are leading in polls versus every other Republican Candidate. So far and away the conclusion would be that it is most likely that Penn will go democratic. Of course - Mark just ignores facts he doesn’t like to support conclusions that he wishes were true. The simple fact of the matter is that with our current state of knowledge then McCain is ahead in Penn - but any other Republican is behind. So , sadly no , Mark.

hmmm. Maybe you guys should read Marks headlining remarks once again.

You guys will take anything to slam agaisnt Mark. My god the man says polls are worthless this far out, doesnt make any predictions as to who would even win based on this poll, and John and LiberalT come running out to stake him through the heart. This blog site is being reduced to useless insults. From both sides.

Really, this topic is kinda boring and there really isn’t much to discuss, maybe thats what explains the insults..

  • 8. Joe  |  January 10th, 2008 at 9:43 am

I agree Zach. It is getting old.
As I’ve said in other posts, this is more Blogs against Democ(r)ats than it is Blogs for Victo(r)y.
I’d like to see more posts about why you think your guy/party is going to win and not why our guy/woman/party will not.

  • 9. InDaVa  |  January 10th, 2008 at 10:27 am

“this is more Blogs against Democ(r)ats than it is Blogs for Victo(r)y”

So true. Mark, could you pull the stats to see how many anti democrat posts there are? I remember you pulled some awhile back when people were complaining about all the hillary posts.

  • 10. neocon  |  January 10th, 2008 at 11:24 am

    InDaVa and Joe,

You two fail to take into account the past eight years of Bush and Republican bashing that the liberals have now based their life on.

So a few threads of pathetic liberal exposure should pale in comparison. I see that you two, like many other liberals, can dish it out, but can’t take it.

  • 11. Joe  |  January 10th, 2008 at 11:43 am

neocon, i never said anything that i can’t take it. I’m just making the point that the name of the blog is Blogs for VICTORY. Never is there a post about why you will have VICTORY other than the Dems suck and they will have DEFEAT.
So keep on just calling people names.

  • 12. Mark Noonan  |  January 10th, 2008 at 12:00 pm

    InDaVa,

While this is not an exhaustive look at our blog archives, what a quick search reveals is the following:

    6 pro-McCain posts
    4 pro-Romney posts
    3 pro-Thompson posts
    1 pro-Giuliani post
    1 pro-Paul post
    1 pro-Hillary post
    1 anti-Edwards post
    3 anti-Paul posts
    4 anti-Obama posts
    4 anti-Hillary posts

With “pro” or “anti” being defined by a post primarily or exclusively about the candidate. But I think this Demonstrates that we’re not just about bashing Democrats…

The evidence for what this blog is mainly about is right in front of everyone’s face. Look at the tags section on the right side of the site. The bigger the tag, the more it is discussed on the site. What are the two biggest tags?

Unless there are a bunch of pro Hillary and Barack posts no one has seen, the evidence is clear.

  • 15. neocon  |  January 10th, 2008 at 12:20 pm

    Joe,

<<Never is there a post about why you will have VICTORY<<

    Never? Are you sure?

I have pointed out on several occassions why I think Romney or McCain or Giulani will wipe the floor with either Hillary or Barack. Yours is just another emotional knee jerk response from an emotional and knee jerk blogger.

  • 16. NeoClown  |  January 10th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Good thing for Democrats that the republican base can’t stand McCain.
Hillary will be running against Romney, Rudy or Huck.

  • 17. NeoClown  |  January 10th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

In Iowa and New Hampshire a total of 808,476 people voted.
485,530 have voted for Democrats, and 322,946 have voted for Republicans.
    Giving Democrats a 20% advantage.
It will be interesting to see how this trend plays out over the next month.
My guess is many republicans are demoralized and will stay at home during the primaries. The big question is: will republicans come out to vote against Hillary in the general election? Are voters more fired up when voting against something or voting for something? Stay tuned.

  • 18. Retired Spook  |  January 10th, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Good thing for Democrats that the republican base can’t stand McCain.

It isn’t so much that we can’t stand him as that we disagree with him on several key issues.

  • 19. Mark Noonan  |  January 10th, 2008 at 4:11 pm

    NeoClown,

You do realise that in the last contested GOP NH primary, in 2000, the total GOP votes cast were 239,523, right? The Democrats, that year, totalled 156,862. How did the popular vote come out in November?

Independents did surge in this primary, but they seem to have mostly gone to the Democratic side to vote for Obama…and if Obama is not the nominee, do you think that Hillary is the independents second choice?

Lesson: Don’t take primary results as an indicator of what will happen in November.

  • 20. Huck Fillary  |  January 10th, 2008 at 4:27 pm

This blog site is being reduced to useless insults. From both sides.

I hear ya, Zach–I’m getting sick and tired of these asshat, brain-dead, puke lemming troll parrots insulting me, and I’m going to demand that they all be banned.

Mark, I’m a little confused about all these trolls slamming you for negative threads about Donkaroaches. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this supposed to be a pro-GOP blog? So what’s their beef?

Trolls, I know you don’t spend all your blogging time just in B4V. You do frequent lefty blogs, don’t you? If you don’t, here’s a news flash for you: Over at lefty blogs, they slam Republicans!!!

Go over to americablog.com, and see how many pro-GOP posts you can find. I’ll bet you don’t find many, and of those you do find, they’ll be about Ron Paul, or some other RINO.

  • 21. Joe  |  January 10th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

    Huck,
I’m not blasting anyone. I am pointing out that there seem to be more posts about Dems than there are about Repubs.
You are such a clown. Why would we expect pro-Dem posts here? I would expect more pro-Repub posts tho. Instead, there seems to be more anti-Dem posts.

  • 22. Huck Fillary  |  January 10th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

You are such a clown. Why would we expect pro-Dem posts here? I would expect more pro-Repub posts tho. Instead, there seems to be more anti-Dem posts.

There you go with the insults again. Zach, get ‘im.

Joe, go to americalblog.com, and you’ll find more anti=GOP threads, and many threads slamming the Dem leadership. Not many positive threads about anything…

A moment of silence for the passing of Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to the top of Mt. Everest.

    …pause…

Now, for those of you who don’t remember, in 1995, Hillary Clinton claimed that her mother named her after Sir Edmund. The only problem with this fanciful tale is that Hillary was six years old when Sir Edmund became famous by conquering Mt. Everest. Until that time this obscure beekeeper was not mentioned in the US press. So it is inconceivable that their is any truth to her story

There is nothing that this manipulative woman won’t say or do to enhance her image or to get power.

The latest charge is that the “Iron My Shirt” signs at her campaign rallies were staged plants by her campaign to enrage women and get their sympathy vote. Is it true??? I don’t know…but given her track record, I wouldn’t put it past her.

  • 24. liberalT  |  January 10th, 2008 at 11:02 pm

except for the fact that she ACTUALLY never said that. What she said was that when she was growing up her MOTHER TOLD HER SHE NAMED HER HILLARY AFTER Sir Edmund Hillary. But later her mother admitted she only told her daughter that story to make her feel good and that of course IT COULDN”T HAVE BEEN because she was 6 at the time he sumitted Everest.

That is - she DID NOT LIE - but rather related what her mother had told her as a child.

What is amazing is the amount of lies you contue to spew phnx…

Actually two words for you - Tensing Norgay..

  • 25. Mark Noonan  |  January 11th, 2008 at 12:42 am

    liberalT,

What about Norgay? He was the second person to reach the summit…

Anways, according to Snopes.com, Hillary, herself, started the story after a bried meeting with Sir Edmund in 1995 - it was only in 2006 that a spokesperson put out the story that it was just as sweet nothing told to Hillary by her mother…for whatever reason, Hillary made up a story, and it made her look rather foolish (not that this is a difficult task).

  • 26. IronMyShirts!!!  |  January 11th, 2008 at 4:30 am

Stick up for Ms. Clinton, libT–you Donks support the lies and liars of your party…

  • 27. InDaVa  |  January 11th, 2008 at 10:01 am

Thanks Mark. I was just curious, thanks for pulling the stats. I appreciate it. I stand corrected.

“You two fail to take into account the past eight years of Bush and Republican bashing that the liberals have now based their life on.

So a few threads of pathetic liberal exposure should pale in comparison. I see that you two, like many other liberals, can dish it out, but can’t take it.”

    Neocon,

Get over yourself. The bashing is equally bad on both sides. I think it’s getting out of hand really.

  • 28. Mark Noonan  |  January 11th, 2008 at 10:09 am

    InDaVa,

No problem - and, heck, even I thought we were doing too many “bash” posts rather than “pro” posts…the “bash” just get more traffic, and thus seem more common, I guess.

  • 29. Just Another Taxpayer  |  January 11th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

The only nightmare poll anybody sees right now is the one being taken on the nations economy by wall street.

    Not good.

Question for the Bush supporters out there: How is this not the Bush recession?

  • 30. GOP4ME  |  January 11th, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Um, J.A.T., hate to disappoint you but we are not in a recession.

For your edification, a recession is a decline in business activity. It is often defined as two consecutive quarters with a decline in gross national production.

What was the rate of growth in our most recently measured quarter - Q3/2007? Why, 3.9%. That is hardly a decline now is it?

I know you wish we were so that you could heap scorn and derision on the POTUS (regardless of actual peoples’ suffering) but the fact remains we are not in a recession.

How is this not the Bush recession?

I guess you have your answer huh?
