Norman Schwarzkopf Endorses McCain

January 24th, 2008 at 02:16pm Mark Noonan

The hero of 1991 sounds off on 2008:

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, U.S. Army (Ret.) issued the following statement endorsing John McCain for President of the United States:

“Senator John McCain has served our country with honor in war and in peace. He has demonstrated the type of courageous leadership our country sorely needs at this time. For that reason, he has my complete support.”

John McCain thanked General Schwarzkopf for his support, stating, “General Norman Schwarzkopf’s distinguished lifetime of service and uncommon devotion to our nation has earned him the respect and admiration of the American people. I am honored by his support.”

A good thing for McCain, but given that McCain, himself, is a war hero, I don’t know how much more support will come to McCain now that another war hero has endorsed him. Still, in that we are utterly dependent upon men like Schwarzkopf (and McCain) to defend our way of life, there is something important in that McCain’s peers are lining up behind him. In a time of war, we do need a President who has the guts to make the tough, life-and-death decisions - McCain has that. We’ll have to see how the other GOPers in the race demonstrate their ability on this level - understanding, of course, that they can’t just make themselves, willy-nilly, into war heros…but they can find ways to show the people that when the crisis comes, they’ll be able to take the pressure.

I bet he gets more of a bump than Huckabee gets from his Duncan Hunter endorsement. I guess that means the 12 people that voted for Hunter will probably go for Huck now.

If he did he be added to the list miliatry men with combat experience who think the prison at gitmo is a bad idea.

Kucinich bows out, that sucks because now we won’t see the lovely Elizabeth out on the trail with the boy mayor.

    Dammit!!!!!
Rocky Balboa is endorsing McCain! That could be the endorsement that pushes Gramps to the top of the heap.

Them damn Hollywood types… you can’t trust them!

He now joins Rip Torn as Hollywood folks backing Gramps.

OT: Americans United for Change to spend some 8 million dollars this year slamming President Bush, planning to keep his approval numbers in the crapper and tarnish his legacy.

BDS is alive and well on the left. We on the right agree that President Bush has made some errors during his tenure, but then again, haven’t all presidents done so? I mean, look at Clinton, caught with his pants down on several occasions. Bush41 and “Read my lips…” Reagan with Iran-Contra. Carter with, well, the litany is too long. On and on, they’ve all made mistakes. However, with the exception of Jimmuh, they also all did some good.

Now go on, libretardTHC, and start the “your guy did worse than my guy” crap. It’s all your sorry ass is good for…

    keefer-

I hate admit it but your are right. These douches are spending good money to slam the president when it should be just left to his policies and persona as to how history will judge him. It seems like a waste to me.

One honorable man recognizes another…and these two soldiers are the epitomy of honor. I hope the electorate recognizes that no candidate in either party comes close to matching the number of military and national security endorsements that John McCain has received, and I hope they see that these endorsements don’t come about for no reason. I trust the endorsement of a retired military officer much more than I would ever trust the support of some Republican senator just looking to get his name on the winning ticket!

    I laugh at you.

I laugh because most of the rethuglican voters disliked the top four candidates so much, ie; Gouliani, Romney, Hucklebee, and Thompson, that now…they have no other alternative but to vote McCain.

Hey jump on. You can all sing, “bomb, bomb, bomb Iran”.

    Terrorists. Traitors.

Well, dopeyjean, I would expect no less from a moron such as yourself. ’nuff said.

Ken, I agree with you completely. I’ll write in my choice if McCain wins, unless someone can convince me otherwise. McCain is lib-lite…
