South Carolina Results A Fearsome Anger

Interesting Rasmussen Survey

January 27th, 2008 at 12:48am Mark Noonan

Missed this one a few weeks ago:

The number of Americans who consider themselves to be Republicans jumped nearly two percentage points in December to 34.2%. That’s the largest market share for the Republican brand in nearly two years, since January 2006.

At the same time, the number of Democrats fell to 36.3%. That’s down a point compared to a month ago. During 2007, the number of Democrats has ranged from a low of 35.9% in July to a high of 37.8% in February.

Rasmussen notes that the big difference between December and earlier months is that the number of Americans who feel the War on Terror is going well has increased - in other words, victory in war is working towards the Republicans advantage, and the Democrats disadvantage. If this survey is correct, then this could play a huge role in November if, as expected, things continue to improve in Iraq.

One thing which amazes me: in politics, Democrats essentially bet against the ability of the United States military to win in Iraq. Stupid. Very stupid. And they may pay the price, because life punishes stupidity even more swiftly than it punishes wickedness.

First, only because corporate media has taken Iraq off the front pages. Second, yet again like Reagan II the Republicans have taken an economy humming along and put it in the toilet. Finding ways to feed their own families has taken precedence over feeding Iraqi families. Not to worry if McCain gets the nod, he will have to explain why it is so important for him to spend $2 Trillion borrowed dollars in Iraq.

    Jane,

Once again, try and employ some critical thinking. The corporate “agenda driven” media no longer puts Iraq on the front page because things are going well. This would shed positive light on the Administrations surge strategy, and they don’t want any part of that.

With less than 5% unemployment, 53 consecutive quarters of GDP growth and continued low inflation, I’d hardly say the economy is in the toilet. I know that’s what you want to believe but the facts just don’t support it. Much like most of your positions.

And spending money in Iraq is assisting our global neighbors realize liberty and freedon from fear. It’s that building allies thing. Hang in there Jane, you’ll come around someday.

I found the following quite interesting:

Washington (The Weekly Standard) Vol. 013, Issue 20 - 2/4/2008 - The Associated Press reported last week that a left-wing group, Americans United for Change, plans to spend $8.5 million to ensure that President Bush’s public approval rating doesn’t improve in his final year in office. The group points out that President Reagan recovered politically in 1988. “All of a sudden he became a rallying cry for conservatives and their ideology,” Brad Woodhouse, the group’s president, lamented. “Progressives are still living with that.” Woodhouse added that another reason his group wants to insure against a Bush recovery is that it could help the GOP presidential nominee this year.

Snakelet, if you sneer at Rasmussen, are you sneering at all polls or just that one? ‘Cause you guys sure do love your polls and cite them ad nauseum when they support your BDS. Just curious…..

Neocon, don’t press janie to employ some “critical thinking”. Any thinking will do. I think of janie as the canary in the mine—-she will tell us what is in the air of radical Leftdom. And it seems that to a certain level of radical Lefty, the fact that the media are not reporting what is going on in Iraq somehow proves Iraq is not going well. I seldom laugh out loud when I read the latest troll droppings, but this one was a gem.

Her second paragraph was even more bizarre. Has Airhead America started some nonsense about “Reagan II”? ???????????????? More than one? And “in the toilet”? Do you KNOW what unemployment in the 5% range MEANS, janie? It means that many employers are having trouble finding people to fill the jobs they have created, that’s what it means. It means that pretty much every person on this country who wants to work can find a job—has found a job.

Janie bleats “Finding ways to feed their own families has taken precedence over feeding Iraqi families.” Is this the mantra being fed to their drooling masses now, to try to cover up the fact that the Left-leaning Agenda Media is refusing to tell the American people about the successes in Iraq? It is so downright goofy it is hard to imagine anyone buying into it—but then, there is janie, so eager to find anything to feed her ongoing need to hate hate hate.

Anyone who has produced effectively enough to have anything to invest has learned enough about the stock market to understand that it will always go up and down, there will always be corrections and dips. Did these silly silly people think that it would be possible to just keep building houses at a record rate indefinitely? Really? Wouldn’t we get to a point where there were too many houses and not enough people to live in them? Wouldn’t that result in prices dropping as demand drops and inventory rises? Isn’t that a completely normal and predicatable cycle?

Evidently not to the Sky Is Falling contingent of the Lemming Left, so completely ignorant of basic economic principles.

Here’s my bet: Drop party affiliation identifiers and ask the American public to vote on simple straightforward issues, and I bet that the ratio of conservative to liberal votes would change dramatically, favoring the Right.

Do you want a strong national defense?
Do you want a strong and active program for protection against terrorist attacks?
Do you want lower tax rates?
Do you want strong borders and a rational approach to illegal immigrants already here, which does not include amnesty?
Would you rather have the bulk of your government in Washington DC or in your own state, where you can keep an eye on it and have more control over it?
Do you want a judiciary which has the right to override your vote and overturn legislation, taking the power out of the hands of the people and putting it in the hands of unelected officials?
Do you believe in the Constitution and think it should be the governing document of this country?

ISSUES. ‘Cause conservatives have the issues, and Liberals have the emotion—which is almost uniformly negative.

jane and critical thinking? not sympatico. Love the line about punishing stupidity before wickedness…

Almiranta, love reading your posts. Not only that, they seem to be getting better!

    Almiranta,
I am impressed with your sincerity. But since we are now in an undeclared war brought on by false accusations, does it bother you that the Constitution clearly states only CONGRESS can declare war and guarantess 4th and 5th amendment protection from government or does letting some half wit cowboy protect you from all possible evil trump the Constitution. I am impressed with you and your hypocritcal, self righteous fascist paranoia. You are willing to trash the constitution at the drop of a hat. But since you are a Bushbot, your non-logic and self righteousness is quite revealing.

And this post is so typical of the morons who whine about media conspiracies when the news doesn’t parrot their party line. All crackpots whine about media conspiracise and engage in dishonest and predictable over-generalizations

  • 9. Doug  |  January 27th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

And what is all powerful about Congress’ ability to ‘Declare War’? Ooooooh, I declare war, I’m so scared.

It doesn’t bother me one iota that we are not in a Declared War. To me it doesn’t matter whether we are or not, if Congress wants to put it down on paper as declaring war, so be it, if they don’t that is fine just as long as the President through the military is still defending his oath - which includes protecting the constitution - which includes Providing for the Common Defence- that works for me.

If you have a problem with a Congress that tries to block the President from carrying out his oath, then take that up with Congress.
