Do the Giants have a chance? I don’t think so - I’ll be rooting for them because the Patriots committed the unpardonable sin of football; knocking the Chargers out of the playoffs, but the plain fact of the matter seems to be that the Patriots are just the best team to ever play football, and I don’t think the Giants will deny them their perfect season.
What do you think?
UPDATE, by Matt Margolis: Mark, care to make a friendly wager on the Superbowl? Loser buys dinner when we’re in D.C. this week? Go Patriots!

UPDATE, by Mark Noonan: Cool. I’ll buy the first round as a consolation prize.

Giants by 2. Scores in the 30’s.
PS: I have always been a Big Blue fan, grew up on the Jersey Shore

William,
We can only hope - my wife has got her Giants jersey on and I’m looking for proxy-revenge for the AFC game…

I hope the Giants win because then I can say that at least the Super Bowl champs are the ones who knocked my team out of the Playoffs. (Tampa Bay.
)
Never pictured you as a Charger fan Mark. Though since LV doesn’t have a team you gotta choose someone. At least you didn’t take the Cardinals. :p

I’ll be rooting for the Pats of course. But with the spread at 12 I’ll be betting on the Giants. The over/under is 55. That’s a tough call. But I’m going with the under.

I’m hoping for the Giants… Always good to see someone getting knocked off of their pedestal…

I suppose I should point out that anyone who isn’t rooting for the Patriots is, by definition, unpatriotic. LOL!
8. mweiss3031 | February 3rd, 2008 at 2:44 pm
I’m rooting for the Giants. I guess that makes me unpatriotic. Again. Dang.

I am a lifelong Cowboys fan and as much as it pains me, I am rooting for the Giants. I always seem to pick the underdog.
31-28. Giants. Ouch, that hurts to say.

I’ll be rooting for the Giants, as I have for most of my life. I certainly think they have a chance, but it won’t be easy for them. The Giants gave the Pats a good scare in their last regular season game, but the Pats found a way to win it. The best thing going for the G-men is that they’re the designated road team, in a season where they’ve played better on the road than at home.

I wanted to root for Greenbay, but the Giants took that away. Guess it would be kind of cool if the Pats had a perfect season - not sure I really care. I will be in my quilting studio (the guest bedroom) and will have the game on, not sure how much I will watch.

kjstrouble: I will be in my quilting studio (the guest bedroom) and will have the game on, not sure how much I will watch.
I guess that begs the question… what else will be going on in your “quilting studio”? Or is it inappropriate to ask? LOL!
13. kjstrouble | February 3rd, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Not much, just quilting. It is just that I dream of a real studio, with lots of light and space.
Now, if I could get my landlord to let me take over his mechanics garage in back of the house (the place can hold up to 4 cars), I would have all the space I would need to have a real studio. Still would only be quilting - but hey I’m without a boyfriend……(LOL)

Hey, Matt! Hey, Mark! blah, blah, blah…just won’t go away, won’t stop insulting…the basement is closing in on me!
15. Ricorun | February 3rd, 2008 at 5:51 pm
searp: I guess you were at the conference last year, I missed you because I was actually, really doing something!
You mean like, watching the Superbowl? I stuck up for you earlier because I thought you might have something worthwhile to say beyond your point of view. But you have to understand that you’re on “visitor’s territory” here. You can’t expect people here to buy into what you say just because you say it. Further, and perhaps more importantly, I have to say that you seem to harbor an overwhelming grudge. You need to calm down.

Can I get in on that action? Lol!

That doesn’t make what you say as “truth.”
Further, and perhaps more importantly, I have to say that you seem to harbor an overwhelming grudge. You need to calm down.
Matt and Mark are doing just fine … We need someone who will stand up and defend truth … and not let people get by with lies.
So, calm down, Ricorun.

It’s my American patriotic duty to root for the underdog since I have no stake in the outcome.
19. Jeremiah | February 3rd, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Oops, my mad, I take all that back, you were talking to searp. Yeah, searp needs to calm down.
Errrm, maybe –>I<– do..LOL!

I just had a flash forward in time. You guys won’t believe what is to come!! Got to go place a bet on the upset and the OVER…Moss also runs into the goal post, but I digress….later.
21. Mark Noonan | February 3rd, 2008 at 7:53 pm
dickdee,
Well, I can see the upset now, but I can’t see the over…is your psychic working properly right now?
22. searp | February 3rd, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Pretty simple to calm me down …blah, blah, blah…(Ed. Note: you’re welcome).
23. dickdee | February 3rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Well, I didn’t say it wouldn’t be in overtime!! LOL
24. dickdee | February 3rd, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I also didn’t realize it was 54.5 points!!! ha ha ha
25. dickdee | February 3rd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
After seeing that, I wouldn’t want to see what the Patriots are going to do next year. They will POUND their opponents. And I think the Senator who thought he should interject himself during Super Bowl week will be the most disliked and hated person in New England. I think the Patriots have won me over for them to run the table next year.
26. Kahn | February 3rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Wow, just wow.
Also, searp is polluting even this string? What a turd.
27. Ricorun | February 3rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
I.Feel.Sick. The nerve of the Giants to spoil a perfect season! And David Tyree — a pox on you!
Lol!
But all is not lost. For one thing, I made money. Granted, I would have made even more if I’d won the the daisy concession in Tom Brady’s navel. The Giants planted him what, 183 times, give or take 160? For another thing, I have the rather ignominious distinction of saying that both of my favorite teams were knocked out of contention by the team that ultimately won the Superbowl. I still feel sick, though.
Anyway, congratulations to the Giants. But I still feel sick.
Mark: …anyone know the most expensive place to eat in DC?
Check out Signatures — assuming they’re still open.
28. Matt Margolis | February 3rd, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Looks like I’m taking Mark to Morton’s.
29. Gozer the Carpathian | February 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Well, that was a crazy game. Though of COURSE I didn’t win the superbowl pool as once again they score just before the end of a quarter to make me lose. :p
(I had 4 and 0 NE/NY. Dang NY comeback win. Though at least they won so I’m not TOO mad. :p)
30. Ricorun | February 3rd, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Mortons??! How cliche’. Considering your book, Signatures has far more panache. Lol!
But yeah, the DC Morton’s is a really good place for a steak.
31. Matt Margolis | February 3rd, 2008 at 11:53 pm
I like Morton’s…
32. Kahn | February 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 pm
The Ruth’s Chris in Crystal City is nice. Or the Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue. They make their own chips - pretty good…
33. Mark Noonan | February 4th, 2008 at 12:12 am
Morton’s is good - not so good out here in Vegas, but superb in DC. It’ll just have to be on Thursday - that Lent thingy, ya know?
34. searp | February 4th, 2008 at 6:40 am
Yeah, Lent. Give your damn money to the wounded warrior project or something, you worthless people
35. kimsch | February 4th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Morton’s is good, really good. Try their Shrimp Alexander, it’s to die for.
36. DM | February 4th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Without question a defensive game. The 2 defining plays;
1.) 2nd half with the Pats making a controlled move and moving into striking distance for either a field goal or a continued 1st down. 3rd and 4 – Brady gets dropped hard for a lose that takes them out of field goal range and sets up a 4th and long that goes nowhere. That potential 3 point swing would have been huge.
2.) Giants in their final drive of the game. Manning drops back in the pocket for a pass and NE goes at him hard. 3 different NE players have a hand on Manning with one player tugging hard on his jersey. Manning somehow pulls away from what looked like a hard sack to fire up what looked like a long pass to anyone’s land for a completion.
37. keefer | February 5th, 2008 at 5:49 am
Gee, I was originally pulling for the Pats to have a perfect season, but hey, Ted Kennedrunk probably rooted for them, so the loss is bittersweet for me.
Sorry, Matt. But heck, you’ve enjoyed three Brady championships recently–nothing to sneeze at. Maybe next year…

[…] Its the Lenten season for us Christians as we prepare for Easter. For me, this will involve a lot of things spiritual, but on this Wednesday it will be to abstain and to fast; no meat, and not a lot of food in any case. I bring this up as part of our general desire at Blogs for Victory to point out that life goes on - and also to advise Matt that on Thursday I can have all the steak I want. […]
