Why Hillary and Obama Put Trial Lawyers Before Saving American Lives
February 15th, 2008 at 12:27am Matt Margolis
As Congress debates giving immunity to phone companies that assisted the government in tracking terrorist communications, trial lawyers prosecuting those phone companies have poured money into the coffers of Democratic senators, representatives and causes.Court records and campaign contribution data reveal that 66 trial lawyers representing plaintiffs in lawsuits against these phone companies donated at least $1.5 million to 44 different current Democratic senators and Democratic causes.
[..]Sen. Barack Obama (D.-Ill.), who is in the running for the Democratic nomination, was given $28,650 from trial lawyers listed as counsel for plaintiffs who are suing those companies becuase they turned over phone records as a part of President Bush’s covert phone surveillance program. $19,150 of that was donated in the last year.
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y), the other main contender for the Democratic presidential bid, also accepted money from trial lawyers on the case. Records show those lawyers have poured $34,800 to her and her husband’s campaigns over the years. $12,150 of those donations were made to her within the last year.
So there you have it. The reason why Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are putting trial lawyers before saving American lives is because trial lawyers fund their campaigns.

Deleted - off topic; the topic is Obama and, by extension, the 2008 campaign as it relates to national security…

Because that essential piece of legislation is being written to tie the hands of our intelligence agencies.
But hey, investigate baseball. That will make the mass murders of Americans be OK.

Who cares….
22 kids shots..6 dead including my sister’s best friend from highschool..she was only 20yo…and not one request on this blog for a prayer for the victims….not even a mention of this tragedy.
May God have mercy on all of us. All this political stuff is meaningless….

But Matt, trial lawyers aren’t special interest groups–they represent the “little guy.”

You are telling me this is all about $12,000 to Hillary, $19,000 to Barak and maybe some telecom coin to McCain.
The President should demand Congress put the interest of the people first and place the FISA bill on the floor without the amnesty measure. Pelosi’s for her part should publicly promise to take up the telecom business amnesty measure separately before their summer recess.
I believe amnesty for the telecoms is a legitimate campaign issue and should be played out in public debate.

The question is- why give retroactive immunity to an industry if ‘nothing illegal’ occurred?
Could it be because of enormous contributions to the GOP by THESE industries? Could it be that the Bush administration doesn’t want the American people to know how big their ‘Big Brother’ survelliance program actually is?
It’s funny that you blame the lawyers! After all, is that why the Shindler family brought over 20 baseless claims against Schiavo? Remember that they didn’t win ONE CASE and even the Conservative Supreme Court refused to hear their claims!
So, you would argue that the Shindlers only wanted the support of trial lawyers, as well? It doesn’t matter to you that Sen Obama, the lawyers, and their clients honestly believe that an Unconstitutional program was perpetuated on the American people? I’m willing to bet that there is MUCH MORE legal basis for these cases than there was in the Schiavo affair!

You know if we all did what we know deep down is right we wouldn’t be wasting space here talking about the donkeys.
We have a candidate capable of slamming the coming leftist sellout. One that offers real change. I like my silver and gold coins, how about you? We all know that the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK has done a poor job of maintaining our monetary integrity and that Congress has been lax in its duty to assert its authority over regulation thereof. We can have a sound monetary system with the right man at the helm.
We must reverse the trend of worldwide damage wreaked by our current foreign policy. We should be defending our own borders and supporting our troops by keeping them out of harm’s way. Building bases in Iraq for another invasion of yet another sovereign nation is not why our people join the Defense Department. If anyone thinks we are going to stop all other nations from selling their oil for whatever currency they wish with military force I say we would have been better off spending the trillion or so we spent on the current two invasions buying the oil while that paper was still worth something and saved the bloodshed. Now we are stretched thin, have draft proposals, and our borders are wide open. No wonder the military support our best nominee more than any other.
Our government is sick and our very sovereignty as a nation is fading. We need the right prescription to revive ourselves as the greatest nation on earth so that we can once again be a world leading example of a free society. Fortunately, we have a doctor who knows just the right remedy and just in time to administer the large dose we so desperately need. We are so lucky to be blessed with our Constitution, which is the timeless contract in such need of enforcement. Administered properly, we can be revived and rediscover the greatness of America designed in that document.
We Republicans should be rallying together and uniting at this point, and cheering on the champion of our Constitution. Let’s win the presidency with the genuine candidate who promises the “change” we all know we need. The one we know can beat either of those two asses in the general election. The one with the racecars in the “formerly Busch” racing series.
Onward to Victory !
Long live the Republic ! !

Let’s see, we’re talking 28,000 out of 100,000,000
raised. I get that as .028%, or .00028 of total funds raised.
Doesn’t sound like a lot to me.
I would say the more important numbers are that both Hillary and Obama have raised over 100,000,000, more than 90% in individual contributions, and John McCain has raised 40,000,000.
