President Bush Has Made U.S. Hated Around the World

February 17th, 2008 at 02:44pm Mark Noonan

Except, perhaps, for those parts of the world not infected with post-Christian, mush-minded Euro-trash leftism:

US President George W. Bush has said he chose to stay longer in Tanzania during his five-nation African visit in appreciation of the country’s clear development plans and efficient use of American aid.

Speaking after signing a 698 million US dollars (about 800bn/-) five-year grant to Tanzania under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) at the State House in Dar es Salaam today, Mr Bush said the country was exemplary in executing health and development programmes supported by the US.

“We go where there are tangible results (of American aid). We don’t give aid to governments which steal from their people,” he said. Mr Bush admitted that the African visit had come late in his presidency, which ends later this year, but maintained that his administration had always given Africa priority.

President Jakaya Kikwete said earlier that malaria prevalence had declined dramatically in Zanzibar under a US support programme while the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) initiated by Mr Bush was prolonging the lives of hundreds of thousands of Tanzanians infected with HIV.

The MSM hates it - a smiling President Bush being greeted by happy foreigners who are grateful for what America under his leadership has accomplished. But the MSM is forced to report things like this:

In a reference to Bush’s domestic problems, Kikwete added: “Different people may have different views about you and your administration and your legacy.

“But we in Tanzania, if we are to speak for ourselves and for Africa, we know for sure that you, Mr. President, and your administration have been good friends of our country and have been good friends of Africa.”

Over President Bush’s Administration, we have built up good will and cooperative relationships with rising Africa and India…dying Europe (and their spiritual compatriots in the United States) hate President Bush.

That is fine and dandy - we’ll take the living, and leave the dead to bury their dead.

His African AIDs program has been but one of few accomplishments. There is no way a typical incompetent neocon is running this program.

look - the simple fact is that Bush is indeed disliked by the vast majority of the US and a vast majority of the world for that matter. You can spin and spin away - but its a simple documented fact. You can try to think of all the reasons in the world that you don’t like Europe - but it doesn’t change the fact that indeed it is NOT dying (i know I know they have a slightly negative growth rate but that hardly qualifies as dying). Quality of life is consistently ranked higher in Europe than in the US. Its just Mark getting bitter as he realizes his ideology is dead. As he realizes that he will lose the white house and even more in november. Guess what - you had your chance and you destroyed the Republican party with it. Good going Bush

  • 9. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

    liberalT,

Slightly negative? Russia is losing half a million people per year in excess deaths over births - and that doesn’t even tell the full story, because the non-ethnic Russian part of Russia’s population is growing…which means that of the actual Russians, they are dying off at more than half million a year. All ’round Europe, native populations are in steep decline - and you choose to call this “slightly negative”….geesh! Your Bush-hatred has really unhinged you from reality.

And stepping from “slightly negative”, you go over to “vast majority” dislike President Bush…you called them all and asked them? Oh, that’s right - you’ve got polls…and they are the absolute, indisputable truth…if a poll says it, it must be true.

Do you realise how foolish you sound?

  • 10. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

    Spook,

Mentally, they’ve locked themselves away - their personality and sense of self-worth is built up around hatred of President Bush. I doubt they can come back any time soon from the intellectual desert they are in.

  • 11. Diana Powe  |  February 17th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

One of the ways in which conservatives in general, and members of the George W. Bush Cult of Personality specifically, like to wallow squelchily in self-pity is the mythology of how much the “MSM” hates the President. Why, the “hatred” just oozes from the cited piece:

    - Headline - “Unpopular at home, Bush basks in African praise”

    - “each compliment applauded warmly by members of the east African country’s cabinet”

    - “thousands more cheering, waving people lined his road from the airport”

    - “Dancers at the airport and at Kikwete’s state house to greet Bush on Sunday, wore skirts and shirts decorated with his face.”

    - “Bush has spent more money on aid to Africa than his predecessor, Bill Clinton, and is popular for his personal programs to fight AIDS and malaria and to help hospitals and schools.”

    - “Because of the U.S. anti-malaria program, 5 percent of patients tested positive for the disease on the offshore islands of Zanzibar in 2007 compared to 40 percent three years earlier, the Tanzanian leader said.

    - Bush’s legacy in Africa would be saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of mothers and children who would otherwise have died from malaria or AIDS and enabling millions of people to get an education, he [Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete] said.”

Yes, Mark. To further demonstrate their hatred, they even compared President Clinton negatively to President Bush. Since they knew Americans would all be very familiar with the details of the responses to his visit, the dreaded “MSM” had to include them for fear of the outrage their hatred-filled and biased reporting would bring from the 33% of people in the latest FOX/Opinion Dynamics poll which approve of the President’s overall job performance in their latest poll.

  • 12. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

    Diana,

If they didn’t hate it, they would just have reported it straight - President Bush given warm welcome in Africa. His polling in the US is irrelevant vis a vis his trip to Africa.

  • 13. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

    liberalT,

Oh, sorry, I got that wrong - old info: Russia is actually losing about 700,000 per year in deaths over births. Its slightly improved (a friend of mine married to a Russian says this is due to Putin providing a large cash bonus for each live birth) of late, but still disasterously low, and with Russia’s very high death rate and half of all pregnancies ending in abortion, things look mighty bleak for the Bear.

    Mark,

I’m sorry that you don’t like the fact that President George W. Bush is well on his way to being one of the most consistently disliked and disapproved presidents in the history of the United States. However, that’s just a fact. Even when Pravda…excuse me…I mean Fox News polls people he still has miserable approval ratings, approval ratings that have been miserable for years.

The factual reality of his national and world unpopularity stand in complete and utter contrast to the reaction that he’s experienced in Tanzania. To not make the contrast would make for superficial and silly reporting. In fact, the President professes not to care, so why do you? Oh, I already mentioned that. Self-pity.

  • 16. liberalT  |  February 17th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

    Mark
    (1) Russia’s birth/death rate is -0.5%. You of course picked the country with the most negative birth/death rate. Europe as a whole is even more marginal with France with a positive birth/death rate and most of Europe essentially even.

    (2) polls. I am sorry Mark but I am calling you out as possibly the worst hypocrite I have ever seen with regards to this topic. Every poll that you don’t like - you simply ignore or think of some ludicrous reason why we can’t believe it. Some of your most stupid moments include
    (a) claiming we can’t trust polls taken in other countries
    (b) constantly claiming we can’t trust polls you don’t like but then glorifying polls which show results that you like (um like the one about withdrawal from Iraq that you posted a FEW DAYS AGO)
    (c) claiming that the polling agencies are ‘anti-american’ (like reuters, the BBC, etc)

Mark - you can howl at the wind all you want. But the truth sets us free and all you have to do is google your name to see who the world considers a moron (go ahead and delete this post you frightened little boy)

  • 17. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

    Diana,

This is what you just said to me:

Mark, I don’t care what you think. I’ve got a poll from Fox News - which is a propaganda outfit for President Bush - saying that Bush is unpopular. It doesn’t matter that these two things are directly contrary to each other, I still believe it, and you’re a fool for not following me here. Furthermore, this poll showing that President Bush is unpopular means for certain that he’s unpopular - its doesn’t matter that he was given a rousing welcome from the people of Africa, the poll shows that he’s unpopular. He’s unpopular because he’s a man who has done bad things for the wrong reason - the good things he’s done in Africa to make those people cheer him (even though he’s unpopular, ’cause the polls say so)…well, I can’t explain them, because if he’s a good man who’s done good things for the right reasons in Africa then I can’t square this with my view that he’s a bad man who’s done bad things for the wrong reasons in Asia…

I did that translation to show how stupid you and the rest of the left sound at times to people - like me - who are both in command of all the facts, and who actually retain in their memory an account of ALL that has happened since 2001.

Relax. It’s only a blog. Take a deep breath. Take a walk with the wife. Say a couple of prayers.

You are starting to sound a little desperate. In this post you’ve attacked Europe, the media, and anyone who disagrees with you.

I’m getting a little concerned for you.

  • 19. Diana Powe  |  February 17th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

    Mark,

You just went to a great deal of trouble to completely miss the reason I even cited the FOX News/Opinion Dynamics poll. As liberalT points out, you ignore polls that don’t support the points you want them to. The significance of the FN/OD poll is that even Fox News, an organization as dedicated to the Republican Party as the Vice-President could ever hope for (hence its inclusion on his Vice Presidential Downtime Requirements), can’t manipulate the questions about the President’s job approval in such a way that it doesn’t produce a number that is consistent with all the other polls.

The cold, hard and indisputable fact is that George W. Bush is deeply unpopular and will be noted in history as being deeply unpopular. The people who danced, sang and praised him in Tanzania (which is hardly equivalent to “the people of Africa”) are all entitled to their opinions of him but those positive views remain in the very distinct minority. As I said, the President purports not to care. Why not join him, embrace his unpopularity and be liberated.

  • 20. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

    LiberalT,

    Relatively even?!?!?!? ROFL…

Geesh, you make this so easy for me..

    European fertility rates

    Albania: 2.03
    Andorra: 1.31
    Austria: 1.37
    Belarus: 1.22
    Belgium: 1.64
    Bosnia: 1.23
    Bulgaria: 1.39
    Croatia: 1.41
    Cyprus: 1.8
    Czech Republic: 1.22
    Denmark: 1.74
    Estonia: 1.41
    Finland: 1.73
    France: 1.98
    Georgia: 1.42
    Germany: 1.4
    Greece: 1.35
    Hungary: 1.33
    Iceland: 1.91
    Ireland: 1.86
    Italy: 1.29
    Latvia: 1.28
    Liechtenstein: 1.51
    Lithuania: 1.21
    Luxembourg: 1.78
    Macedonia: 1.57
    Malta: 1.51
    Moldova: 1.25
    Monaco: 1.75
    Netherlands: 1.66
    Norway: 1.78
    Poland: 1.26
    Portugal: 1.48
    Romania: 1.38

Enough…its dinner time. There isn’t an European nation “just about even” - that would be a fertility rate of 2.1 - the closest Europe has to that is Albania, which is majority Moslem…and that is the un-stated part of the demographics; the birth rate of native Europeans is even lower than these national statistics because, especially in places like France, Germany and Britain, they are having a population boom - in unassimilated Moslem children.

Europe is dying. Period. End of story.

If that means agreeing with President Bush on his mission to end the evil that the people of Iraq were under for so many years, and then being called “stupid” and “freakish” because of it … then you can count me in with that group. You only do yourself and the country harm with your insane platitudes. The division that result because you choose to take the evil road, will only lead to chaos in this peaceful country … and one of these day, someone is going to stand with a great army and say ‘Enough’.

    Mark,

What kind of floor were you rolling on while laughing or, maybe, you didn’t actually do that. “ROFL”. How silly.

I hate to point out the incredibly obvious, but…uh…it was you that decided to devote your time to posting an item about…um…popular opinion among some people in Tanzania about George W. Bush. In any case, it would be a pretty thin sort of history that didn’t note the fact that the President is as unpopular as he is and has been for years most especially in stark and utter contrast to his amazing approval numbers shortly after the attacks of 09/11/01 or do you think that popular opinion has no place in the history of presidential politics. Of course, you may not, considering the fact that President Clinton had some of his highest job approval ratings after the Republicans in Congress tried and failed to remove him from office.

    Jeremiah,

Okay, I’m waiting for President Bush to get “on a mission” to end all the rest of the pervasive evil in the world. Got any idea when that’s going to happen?

  • 25. Jeremiah  |  February 17th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

    Diana,

You don’t get it - you’ve got polls; I’ve got actual people happy to see him…you believe the polls, I believe flesh and blood people. Certainly, President Bush isn’t popular right now…but to say he’s hated or vastly disliked is, well, stupid on the face of the actual evidence we have.

  • 27. liberalT  |  February 17th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

“i’ve got actual people happy to see him”…

Sure - there are some people who are. You are also neglecting the protests that follow him every where he goes…Sad Sad Sad. Live your life in denial - it hasn’t stopped you before. It doesn’t matter as your ideology is dead, your party is broken, and you will loose in November and I will be laughing even more

  • 28. Diana Powe  |  February 17th, 2008 at 6:51 pm

    Mark,

Your statement reminds me of a man I once worked with who assured me that he knew that there were no lynchings of black people in the United States because he had no personal knowledge of them. When I mentioned the photographs of black men hanging from trees, he pointed out that they were only photographs and that they could be doctored. So, in the spirit of my friend George, the press operator, I’ll point out that you don’t have “actual people happy to see him”. What you have is a press account of “actual people happy to see him”. Were you there? Did you see them? Maybe they’re just as wraithlike and disputable as all those people who answer those polls you don’t like. Look! Is that Rod Serling standing behind you?

  • 29. Jeremiah  |  February 17th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

    Diana,

Look, I’m positive that there are people who hate President Bush, You and Liberal tee are proof of that by your presence here….and you hate him for no other reason than he’s a Christian man. There’s people out there right now, that would like to see the President assassinated, and no doubt LiberalT would, he’s hatemonger if there ever was one.

But good will always triumph, and if a Democrat becomes our next President, there will be some rough times ahead….but as Jesus said … ‘I will never leave thee, no forsake thee, even unto the end.’ And I believe that with all of my heart, I may have to lose my life in the process, but it will be worth it all, for my other brothers and sisters.

  • 30. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

    liberalT,

Every President has a clutch of protestors wherever he goes…and, in fact, it is reported that a couple thousand people showed up to protest President Bush’s Africa visit - demonstrating that not everyone likes him, or is pleased with him. Far larger numbers showed up to cheer, howerver, indicating that he’s not universally hated around the world…and given that he’s being cheered by African people in a country emerging out of Third World poverty, there’s a strong indicator that the stories of President Bush’s racism, imperialism and heartlessness are, to say the least, exaggerated.

  • 31. Mark Noonan  |  February 17th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

    Diana,

I must once again thank you, Mr. President, for the warmth of your welcome and for your deep and abiding personal commitment to the building of our partnership - Prime Minister Singh, India

Over the past five years, I’ve really had a close friendship with President Bush, and thanks to that we’ve been able to have a very candid exchange of views. And I believe this is not just limited to close relations between us, personally, but I believe this close relationship is necessary in the future between Japan and the United States, as well. - PRIME MINISTER KOIZUMI

During a short verbal exchange Wednesday at the Ben-Gurion Airport Terminal, Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yona Metzger thanked President George W. Bush for the US’s military intervention in Iraq.

PRIME MINISTER AL-MALIKI: Thank you. Please be seated. I’ve called you here today because this morning, in a moment of lucidity coincidentally following a conference call with President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Secretary Rumsfeld, I suddenly thought “America sure did bravely swoop in and save my helplessly swarthy countrymen from being dunked in Saddam’s giant acid baths! LOS ANGELES, May 26 — On the last day of his four-day visit to the United States, President Vicente Fox of Mexico spoke with President Bush to thank him for his support for the sweeping immigration changes that were passed by the Senate this week.

CHANCELLOR MERKEL: Mr. President, Mrs. Bush, Minister President, Lord Mayor, ladies and gentlemen, citizens of Stralsund, let me say that I am delighted to be able to welcome you on behalf of the representatives of the land, and also of the city. I’m delighted to welcome most warmly the President of the United States of America. Mr. President, a very, very warm welcome to you

Oh MSM conspiracy, that is so tired Mark. I am sure Bush is loved in Sub-Saharan Afirca for his excellent programs to help stop aids/HIV and malaria in Africa. This is one of the few instances where his foreign policy should be applauded. Compasionate Conservatism at work. I wonder how Bush would be recieved in Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Chad, Morocco, Algeria and other Northern African nations. I suspect his reception would not be as joyful.

PRESIDENT MUBARAK: Today we have met with the President of the United States, President George Bush, to affirm our common commitment to seize this historic moment to advance the peace cause forward. As the countries of this region continue their important endeavors to promote political, economic and social reforms, we welcome the initiative by the United States to open new economic opportunities for all the people in the Middle East

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT KIIR (Sudan): It is true we have been working together during the negotiations with the people of the United States and the government of the United States of America to bring peace to Sudan. And that peace has taken a toll of our people. This dream has been achieved, and we are now together in the implementation.

There are so many other crises in Sudan, that is the problem of Darfur that people have been talking about. And we are sure that we are going to solve the problem so that we don’t hear about rapes and killings in Darfur. And all other parts of our country, like the Eastern Sudan, we are now also negotiating in that province so that peace is also achieved all over the Sudan.

So we thank the President for all the efforts that he has been exerting and the concerns that he has about the people of Sudan.

    phnx,

Gotta admit, it does get frustrating…here we have liberalT and Diana who are absolutely convinced that we are a government of the Poll, by the Poll, and for the Poll…there is no way for us to actually get them to look at what is happening. They don’t realise that President Bush as mostly hated by the following:

    1. American leftists, who have always hated anyone who isn’t a leftist.

    2. Radical Islamists.

    3. Putin and his gang.

    4. Hugo Chavez.

    5. Leftwing European elitists.

    6. The mullahs in Iran.

    7. Terrorist leaders.

I could go on - but the plain fact of the matter is that, yes, President Bush is hated….but he’s hated by people who hate. If you’re going to have enemies, President Bush picked all the right ones.

    Mark,

For all of the BDS on the left, its interesting to note that the measure of anyone on the left has always been based upon their intentions, not their results. And if nothing else, the intentions of President Bush have always been for the good of our country. We won’t know about the results for many years.

The legacy of President Bush, good or bad, will not be written by today’s MSM, or his other leftist enemies, nor by his friends on the right. It will be written many years from now and will be based upon the success or failure of the policies which he has set in motion.

We are all too close and too emotionally involved to be objective. I for one hope, for the sake of our country, that history will be kind to him.

You deserved a better response Phnx. It would serve us all for the threats we face to be favorably resolved. If Bush gets the credit, I’m fine with that.

At best he will be questioned for running campaigns from the middle and then governing from the right. A large part of BDS stems from people being ridiculed or called traitors simply because they disagreed.

He had almost unprecedented support of us all in October of 2001 and squandered it. I’m not quite sure how it all dissolved into such vitriol, but I know if people aren’t following you’re not leading.

“here we have liberalT and Diana who are absolutely convinced that we are a government of the Poll, by the Poll, and for the Poll”…

    (1) this is not the issue at hand. The issue that YOU brought up is what the world thinks of Bush and the US because of Bush. I don’t see how you can possibly answer that question by any better way then going and actually asking people. The scientific process of doing that is called polling.

    (2) when you say ‘govern by polling’ you are just pandering. Of course a huge part (but not the entire one as indicative by a representative democracy) is so called ‘govern by polling’ - that is having elections. And yes - i have the ‘radical’ idea that in a democracy we should actually do what the vast majority of the population want.

Mark - i will pay for you to take a college level science and civics course if only so that you don’t make such a damn fool of yourself every day to the world

  • 55. steveGA  |  February 17th, 2008 at 11:29 pm

You know what’s great about this ‘debate’ about polls? Within a week, Mark will be favorably quoting a poll that shows Bush’s greatness, Democrats’ weakness, or Republicans’ impending electoral victory.

Have you ever seen that movie Memento? Mark is like the main character. Each day he wakes up having no idea what he’s done previously. All he knows is what’s tattooed on his body: “Democrats bad, Republicans good”. Everything he does, no matter how contradictory to what he did in days past, is in service of that simplistic statement.

  • 56. Mark Noonan  |  February 18th, 2008 at 12:07 am

    steve,

Nice try - but I always put a disclaimer on posts regarding polls; “if the poll is true”, “if this is correct”, “this may be an indicator” - and always ending with some variant of “we’ll have to see how it comes out”.

  • 64. southerner  |  February 18th, 2008 at 8:42 am

    Mark,
I note above your various comments regarding the idea that ‘old’ Europe is dying (I believe the term ‘old Europe’ was coined by that superb analytical and strategic thinker Donal Rumsfeld, the man who engineered the superb US occupaton of Iraq?).

Europe has the highest standard of living of any large conglomeration of people in the world. It has superb universal healthcare, free education to University level (you don’t need to remortgage your house to pay ridiculous college fees in Europe), much lower working hours and vastly longer vacation times than the US (ever hear of work/life balance?) and most European countries have much highter per hour productivity than the US.

Also, I notice that you like to portray yourself as a family-minded conservative. Do you not therefore applaud the fact that many more European women stay home to raise their children (and are supported in doing so by generous maternity leave allowances and child support grants).

Europe’s GDP is $1.5 TRILLION higher than America’s and Europe as a whole is much more politically and socially cohesive than America despite the fact that Europe is home to a wealth of racial and cultural groups (no bitter red state/blue state divide). Germany is the world’s largest exporter (not China) and has a HUGE trade surplus with the US. Italy itself is the world’s luxury brand, France is the most efficent nation on the planet in terms of productivity and as of 2007 Arianespace held more than 50 percent of the world market for commercial satellite launches while Airbus have gone from being a non-entity 20 years ago to the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer by most metrics.

Europe is, frankly, booming. And as for your kind concerns about Europe’s population, the most pessimistic views on this say that Europe’s population may decline by 3% by 2050 (a shortfall which may easily be made up with immigration if desired), a scenario which, given Europe’s very high population density will only improve the quality of life of its citizens.

  • 65. The Warpublican Review  |  February 18th, 2008 at 9:19 am

    64. southerner | February 18th, 2008 at 8:42 am

I’ve always detected elements of envy and jealousy in Mark’s comments on Europe.

He is no doubt troubled by America’s decline in the world community and needs to vent his disappointment by bad-mouthing more successful countries.

  • 67. Ricorun  |  February 18th, 2008 at 9:49 am

Mark: …people - like me - who are both in command of all the facts…

Perhaps you should have capitalized “The Facts”. Anyway, to paraphrase Samuel Clemens, I suspect the reports of Europe’s death are greatly exaggerated.

On another note, I think Bush deserves credit for PEPFAR. He pushed it through, and it and other programs have had a significant impact on the lives of those in the targeted countries. Last summer he expressed a desire to double funding to $30 billion. I don’t know if that’s passed yet, but it sounds like a good idea to me both on humanitarian and geopolitical levels.

  • 71. Retired Spook  |  February 18th, 2008 at 10:40 am

Europe’s GDP is $1.5 TRILLION higher than America’s

Not sure where you got your figure (it’s actually low), southerner, but it’s either old, or you just made it up. The United States has far and away the largest GDP of any country on the planet. To compare the economy of the EU, ($16.6 Trillion in 2007) made up of 27 member countries with a total population of nearly 500 million to the U.S. ($13.86 Trillion in 2007 with a population of 300 million) is disingenuous at best, dishonest at worst. Just what we’ve come to expect from you Lefties.

  • 72. southerner  |  February 18th, 2008 at 11:20 am

Where did I get my figures Retired Spook? Uhm, how about the IMF? The table demonstrating that US GDP is $1.5 TRILLION behind Europe’s can be found at the following link:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)

Also, when comparing Europe to America you might want to bear in mind that about 1/3 of the countries in the EU are former communist states which have had little more than a decade to build up their infrastructures and economies. These countries are expanding FAST and the relative GDP trend shows that Europe is pulling away from America at a considerable rate. When you bear in mind the fact that George Bush has managed to devalue the dollar by over 50% during his two terms in office, the US’s relative wealth when compared to the Euro’s dwindles further. Sorry to spoil your little pipe dream.

Only difference being his films are against the GOP and shed some light on serious problems facing the country. For this reason anyone who listens to what he says is a ‘lib’, ‘leftist’, ’socialist’, etc.

Also Eric, Making fun of a man because he is overweight does not negate the fact that he maybe right, it only makes you look like a fool for not responding with an intelligent rebuttal.

Here are the per capita GDP numbers, in case anyone’s interested. From an economic point of view at least, the numbers don’t support the meme that Europe, particularly “Old Europe”, is dying.

But since “Europe is dying” has been declared as A Fact by one self-declared to be in command of All The Facts, I guess we’ll have to go with it.

Great to know that Tanzania loves us. The next time terrorists strike, to take revenge for the carnage in Iraq or the assassination of that Hezbollah leader in Pakistan, I’m sure Tanzania will be glad to send in the troops. I don’t see any reason why most of our European allies should, after the way they offered us their sympathy and support on 9/11 and we spat in their faces because they correctly warned that the Iraq war was unjustified and would be a disaster. The ones who did follow us off the cliff into Iraq have been pulling out, including Poland (remember “New Europe,” as opposed to “old Europe?”)

Still, it’s good to see a few cracks appearing in the facade of conservatives who insist that the U.S.A. doesn’t need the rest of the world because we’re the greatest. When you’re pathetically grateful for a few smiles from people for an anti-AIDS initiative (even if the abstinence only requirements did seriously limit its effectiveness) maybe you’re beginning to see that we need the rest of the world after all.

Unchecked population growth eventually doomed the civilization of Easter Island. It didn’t quite kill off all of them, but it did sentence most of them to a very painful death from starvation or warfare, and destroyed the culture that had produced the magnificent sculptures. Now, do we want to be like Europe, with its rational health care and government programs to alleviate poverty, or like Easter Island, breeding ourselves to death? I know which I’d choose, thank you. Pity the dollar is so weak against the Euro now, this would be a great time to invest in a nice little retirement cottage in the Tuscan countryside before Bush takes the whole country the rest of the way over the cliff. Not that I want to leave the U.S. by any means, but if there isn’t much left of it to live in, I could see doing so.

I noticed Obama ripped off Mike’s plan for rebuilding infrastructure.

I heard McCain talking about preserving Social Security when he was up here. I think the candidates the GOP has are far superior to what the dems are offering. The dems can’t give a straight answer on anything. Take Iraq, Hillary voted for it, then denied the funding. Obama voted against it but voted for the funding. They can’t take a stand on an issue. The democrats are like a fart in a windstorm. If you want a flake that can’t make up their mind, go ahead and vote Democrat, anyone that has any sense, will stick with the GOP.

President Bush will do what is right, regardless of polls, or which way the wind is blowing on a certian day. We need a president that can make up his mind.

But your right, gotta keep them dems outta the white house because they may change the course. Then we might only lose the highest quality freedom and just be left with freedom. Eric t,

I don’t want to sound critical, but I feel that with Mike still in the race, we still have a choice, because as you said, ‘Mike’s the only one with some good plans.’ If the majority’s preference for Hillary, McCain and Obama continues as it is now, and Mike drops out, then there’s really not much to choose from. This leads to an unfortunate reality that Ameica is not concerned about strong moral values anymore, and are more concerned for their own self interests, more abortion on demand, more sodomized marriage, so forth and so on.

That’s what I like about Mike Huckabee, he stands for what’s right in the sight of the Creator…which is really the most significant issue in this day and age that we live in.

Without moral leadership in America, everything else will go down.

It’s time all concerned Christians stand and fight!

    Eric,

I think your missing my point. The thing that makes America great are the freedoms and rights individuals have. How is the government any different from a dictatorship if those rights are thrown out the window in time of crisis. In addition, it is possible to prevent terrorism while maintaining rights. Seemed to work fine before 9/11. Which was not unlike pearl harbor by comparison, both attacks had warnings it was going to happen but nothing was done until it was too late. This was not a question of rights or torture when is happened; it was just dismissing the evidence at hand, human error. Which somehow got traded for rights.

Oh and though you probably didn’t mean it, It was the Pentagon, not the White house that was hit along with the Trade Centers. Just an FYI

    Jeremiah-

I noticed “blue state wonder boy” is not winning Real Republican states, he is winning blue democrat states. Yes McCain has more delegates but conservatives are not impressed with him at all. Like you, I believe the President needs to be true to GOP core values and standards, McCain has went against GOP too many times, Don’t buy into this “Gotta vote McCain for the good of the party” You don’t have to be herded onto the straight talk express bandwagon. Mike don’t have the media power to brainwash the masses like these others do, but if you like what he stands for, just stick with him. McCain has backed abortion, gay marraige, anti-gun stuff, amnesty, and alot of issues that I can’t get behind. Insist on a real Republican, Duncan Hunter endorsed him. You want “Change for the better, vote Mike. More of the same vote McCain, Change to run us full speed towards communism, vote democrat.

    We need a Christian President!

“Change to run us full speed towards communism, vote democrat.”

Wow… Do you know the difference between capitalism, socialism, communism or imperialism? Have you been paying attention to anything the dem candidates have been saying? Since when did Universal Health Care become communism? I must have missed that day of Fox Coverage.

I personally believe universal health care is one thing every country should have. Everyone becomes sick at one point of time or another, so in my opinion it should be a right. Saying that, I do not believe Hillary’s proposal is realistic. I do not believe you can just change the system like she proposes. Barack’s I see as more of an upgrade of the existing system as opposed to changing it completely.

Eric, your living in a Dream world if you think Mike is going to get the nom. Though I do agree with you that McCain will only sink the US into a deeper hole. I can say that.

An Objective Open-minded President is required

In 2002 there was 1.29 million abortions in the U.S. That is over 3500 a day.

I got a job with average pay I pay about $3000 a year in Social Security tax. So at that rate, the 1.29 million aborted babies would have contributed about $3,870,000,000 into Social Security. Destroying that many babies is not only Unholy, but it is creating a problem for funding the elderly people who are no longer able to work.

    It is pure holocaust!

    Canadian Observer-

You don’t grasp they concept of freedom, its ok neither do our democrats. It is about, not having to explain why you need it to officials, and other people, I don’t know what you enjoy, whether stamp collecting, dancing, watching porn, but you like what you like. When the day comes that government gets so big it ventures into your hobbies, tells you, you can’t have that muscle car, too much power, it pollutes the air too much…ect ect, you lost your freedom. That is why I have a strong interest in politics. One administration may say this is ,so I spend my cash, the next group comes in and says, no way, you don’t need that. I’m going to fight like Hell to keep them from taking my personal property.

  • 113. Some Assembly Required  |  February 19th, 2008 at 7:22 am

    EricT,

The government tells you your not allowed to murder anyone, so by your logic the government is taking your freedom by doing so. Man, you have got some really messed up perception on what freedom is.

When the government ventures into your hobbies, like planting agents in book clubs, warrantless wiretaps, etc your freedoms are of the ‘highest quality’?

Freedom is more or less about being able to express yourself within reason (no criminal activity) and not being persecuted for it.

  • 114. T-Rex  |  February 19th, 2008 at 8:22 am

EricT: “We need a Christian President.”

Uh, Eric, ever heard of a thing called the Constitution? It expressly forbids any religious test for election to public office. And believe me, the Founding Fathers had very good reason for doing that, because they’d seen the pointless bloodshed caused by the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants in England.

But don’t let the Constitution bother you too much, because President Flight Suit is said (by at least three eye-witnesses) to have once screamed at some Republican Congressmen who were concerned about the terms of the Patriot Act “Don’t quote the Constitution to me! It’s just a goddam piece of paper!” And we all know what American patriots like Bush and Ollie North do with pieces of paper they don’t like. By the time he leaves office, assuming that he does (martial law works great for circumventing term limits) there won’t be a bit of that nasty old Constitution left to bother you.

  • 115. EricT  |  February 19th, 2008 at 9:03 am

Some Assembly- I Not going to apply the logic to something else to try and justify truth. Clinton’s Gun Ban is about turning law abiding people into criminals, that is not freedom, you will not be able to package and sell it as freedom. Gun confinscations like in England or Australia, that is not freedom either. The government saying to its people turn them in or you become a criminal, enemy of the state. It’s not freedom dude, it is tyranny.

t-rex- I’m not government just a guy with an opionion, I’m going to try to reapply you logic like #113 Some assembly did and say.
Is it ok for a person to say we need a woman for president, or we need a African American for president. Is this ok?

  • 116. Rana Quijotesca  |  February 19th, 2008 at 9:10 am

Short little anecdote: When I went to Austria a few years back, the uncle of the girl I stayed with was not only surprised that I could cook (pretty well in fact), he was surprised that I had a kitchen at all (he had thought that we did all of our eating at fast food restaurants or something). Moral of the story is that some foreigners have crazy stereotypes and perceptions of Americans… and most of them aren’t Bush’s fault (though he didn’t really help things– that’s where the story of me getting assaulted in Italy for “being American” comes in).

  • 117. Some Assembly Required  |  February 19th, 2008 at 9:21 am

    Eric,

Ok, England and Australia have restrictions, but how many gun deaths a year do they have compared to the US? Also, these restrictions just require background checks and permits before receiving a firearm. Can you imagine everyone walking around with a handgun in their pocket, there would be no such thing as a good ol fashion fist fight anymore, once one person gets the upper hand they’d be shot. It’s simple human nature.

I’m all for self protection if someone invades your home, but lets be realistic here, do you really need a canon or a Gatling gun in your house? To tell someone they can’t have a Gatling gun, is this really tyranny and turning them into a criminal?

I think most people realize, RQ, that stereotyping all Americans as being ignorant red-neck gun-toting fast-food guzzlers is wrong.

The installation of Bush in the Oval Office for a second term, however, was a real shocker and questions arose as to the collective sanity of the American people. We just have a heck of a time accepting the fact that the voters thought this person had the capability to represent your country on the world stage. It’s hard to comprehend.

  • 119. eric taylor  |  February 19th, 2008 at 10:20 am

the original contention of this article is that the world loves america because bush is great, and the only reason we americans can’t figure that out is because the main stream media is brainwashing us.

Which is of course not true. America is hated the world over. It is a bitch to travel. During Clinton’s term, you could travel the world over wearing a red white and blue usa jacket and people would shake your hand. Today?

I think you got two places in the entire world you could do that. the UK and Japan and a few nations in africa.

I mean, when you hear the neocons talk about the United Nations, they tell us that everyone in the UN is worthless so what if they hate us, it’s a bunch of socialists and tin pot dictators, but then they turn around and say that these same nations love us. You can’t have it both ways.

I don’t think it should be an american goal to be loved. I do think that we shouldn’t be hated so much that americans are afraid to travel.

  • 120. Eric T  |  February 19th, 2008 at 12:16 pm

    eric taylor-

It is deceptive liberal bias propaganda that the U.S is hated because of Bush.

    1. How do you measure how hated we are?

You could drive to another part of town and get attitude, cold shoulder, rudeness, hate.

You could go to another region of our country where people have different accents to their voice, and they could be friendly or you could get the cold shoulder, attitude, rudeness, hate.

    2. President Bush has been on a Middle East and Africa tour the last few months, visiting many countries, many of these countries may view him as a “Lengendary Oil Man” that brought prosperity, and work, and economic growth to their third world countries. I imagine certain places like Afghanistan the women that are now free to attend school think a different way about the U.S than the Taliban fighters getting pounded by U.S artillery, but it goes back to how do you REALLY measure such a statement for truth.

    3. If you were able to trace this claim, it could probably be tracked to a raunchy old pervert, that can’t treat his wife right. A guy who expired his term limit, but still lusting for power, and willing to do or say anything to bring tyranny back to the White House.

  • 121. hastingspete  |  February 19th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

Of course polls matter, and of course it matters how the President is perceived overseas? Bush’s standing in the world (not just Europe), and ours as well, has immense impact on us. Look at the fortunes of any world leader too closely allied with Bush (or our country) from Britain, to Spain to Australia to Poland to Pakistan. The anti-US fever in this world has impacted local elections. Of COURSE it isn’t the only factor in a local election, but you can’t help be struck at how, time after time, a close relationship with Bush has resulted in the end of an ally’s career.

Our ability to rally global support on an initiative, our international credibility, and our role as a beacon of freedom and justiced have been radically diminished. Most countries do not view the Iraq exercise as nobly as you do (the two justifications for the war had nothing to do with spreading democracy), and our Abu Ghraid, Guantanamo, and spying scandals have done us no favors.

Like it or not, a favorable reception in a couple of third world countries does not substitute for what has happened to our standing everywhere else. What Bush did for AIDS in Africa is very nice. Kudos. But in the grand scheme of things, it is so small beer compared to damage done. And that is what history will record, as certain as the sun wil rise tomorrow.

  • 122. Jeremiah  |  February 19th, 2008 at 12:39 pm

  • 123. Eric T  |  February 19th, 2008 at 12:41 pm

hastinspete- The polls are the bias lib media saying how hated we are. They are generating the hate. MSM, all of these guys are the same folks spreading the good news about the how Democrats, Hillary and Obama are going save the world and bring peace, joy, love and, happiness, to reign on earth forever and ever.

They have to demonize the GOP to win, If the media was praising the GOP, the dems would not have a chance of winning.

  • 124. Some Assembly Required  |  February 19th, 2008 at 1:11 pm

When talking about AIDS and poverty in Africa it is also important to note the global attention this issue has. The last worldwide effort was Live8 which had over 3 billion viewers worldwide. Leading up to the G8 summit in which historic pledges were made by all nations in attendance. That kind of audience and support cannot be ignored know matter who you are. Just to qualify it, the superbowl brings in say 300 million viewers. This event had 3 Billion. I will give credit to bush on this though as well, he went to bat for Africa and their people.

“They have to demonize the GOP to win, If the media was praising the GOP, the dems would not have a chance of winning.” - Eric

Do you watch any other news aside from Fox? The MSM and the dems do not need to lift a finger to demonize the GOP, their doing a pretty good job on their own. I do not believe the media carries much clout anymore and regardless the majority of Americans are so against the war in Iraq I don’t believe it would matter even if there was full endorsement of the GOP by the media.

“The only excuse anyone has to rail against the President because of the Iraq war, is they are blind to reality, justice, peace, kindness and mercy.” - Jeremiah

I’m just going to state the obvious to this, WMD’s.

Haven’t you suffered enough? It’s time to move on and put these terrible years behind you. It was just a horrible nightmare; a dream that you can wake up from. There can be a brighter future for the American people. Have faith, it can happen.

  • 126. Jeremiah  |  February 19th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

    C. Observer,

George W. Bush has been a fine President. People can disagree with him, but to too many, it’s not enough to disagree, they have to hate him, and the biggest majority of those who hate him, live right here in the U.S.

As I’ve said, the only reason people hate him is because he’s a Christian, those like the DailyKos generate that hate, and then as Eric T said, the MSM gets a hold of it, and it spreads like wildfire. The Daily Kos is an evil organization. Go to their site some time, and type in the F-word, there’s a little search box in the right-hand side of your screen, it is mentioned hundreds and hundreds of times. All because they hate President Bush, and stupid rhetoric at that.

But President Bush is not the least bit concerned about those scumbags, and that’s one thing I like about the President, he knows there are good people who understands and care just like he does, and they know that what he has done to keep America safe over the past 8 years is what makes him one if not THE greatest President in United States history. Combined also with the fact that he has stood for life. When the ESCR bill got to his desk, he vetoed. HOORAY! A victory for life on that level.
He has stood for marriage, had the marriage bill passed, he would have signed it into law. He has reduced taxes on the middle and lower income class. It didn’t just affect the “rich,” that is non-sense. On and on.There’s no sense in keep going over it, it’s been argued over and over a billion times.

In President Bush we have a man who stands on moral principles, and that’s what you must have in a President. In a President, you want somebody who will use their power wisely and will vote for the moral structure of society(someone like Pres. bush), as opposed to somebody who would use their power in a dangerous way (like Hillary Clinton/Barack Obama).

  • 129. Some Assembly Required  |  February 19th, 2008 at 3:55 pm

“As I’ve said, the only reason people hate him is because he’s a Christian”

This kind of reminds me of that saying, “when all else fails blame the Jews.” Jeremiah, your world looks to be collapsing around you, blaming religion is just simply pathetic, I’m sorry sir. But it is simply ridiculous to imply that GWB is hated because of his religion but not because of an illegal war, his blaten disregard of the constitution and a failing economy. I can only hope that you re-read your post maybe at a later date and laugh at how foolish it is.

  • 130. Jeremiah  |  February 19th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

    SAR,

I probably should have worded it a little differently…more like…’The only people who hate President Bush are those who don’t honor God in their everyday lives, and couldn’t care less about the crisis that Ameica faces if they don’t turn back to God.’

Just to give you an example, yesterday evening I posted a question in the “Religion & Spirituality section at Yahoo Answers concerning the new laws the the Florida State Board of Education is voting on today…here’s the question I asked…

God being rejected in our schools….?

The Florida State Board of Education is getting ready to make some major changes to their school curriculum standards. There will be 18 new changes, and one of those 18 will affect Education in a profound or lack thereof in a negative way. Evolutionists are demanding that evolution be taught as “fact” and that God and Creationism be ruled out…

    What say you?

Out of 30 answers I received, one really touched my heart…here’s what she said…

Americans don’t want prayer in school….
Americans don’t want God on their money….
Americans don’t want “Under God” in their pledge…

Americans don’t want the Ten commandments in public…
Americans don’t want any Christian symbols in public

Now we wonder why we have shootings in schools?
We eliminate God from our schools and public places, and we cry out “God Bless our Nation”? Honestly, what have we given Him to bless. So, if you take out creationism, because it has to do with God, then what are you going to replace it with. Florida has some screwed up laws anyway, it is only a matter of time. This will be a battle that will carry on until His return. Let me put it to you this way, we are fighting a spiritual battle all the time.

I know the future…..God wins……….The Bible says so.
    *************************************

America has changed, and it hasn’t been “good” change. There are many who stand up for what is right, but overall, America in general, the majority of Americans don’t want or aren’t concerned for cleanliness and decency, they don’t want to abide by what God’s Holy Word teaches us that we should do, and so, whenever someone of upstanding God-fearing principles takes a postion of power, they don’t want it…because they don’t want any restraint on their promiscuous and filthy lifestyles, and so they take the little babies and murder them, because they are a hindrance to their filthy promiscuous lifestyles, thus, they rid themselves of any responsibility to God which they can attain true freedom.

You want someobody who will give you the freedom to do as you please and go as wild animals…it’s fine and dandy with me, but I don’t think it’s going to square with the Almighty Creator’s Law.

That’s alright, I’m just trying to give a little advice that will help you along and so you can know what’s best…and prepare you for what’s ahead … rough times are comin’…

    Here’s some advice from Jesus…

Matthew 5:17-20 - Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will bo no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

    Eric T

How do you measure how hated we are?

much of my family lives abroad and I am well traveled. Bush has been a disaster for foreign relations. You don’t need a poll to figure this out, just jump on a plane and go see the world.

I mean, just get up and go, talk to people, find a cheap ticket, travel off season, stay at a youth hostel, anyone can do it, it doesn’t take a lot of money. Now, of course, other nations don’t hate us americans individually. We are all people and if you go up to them one on one, they will be friendly with you.

But that split second before they know who you are, when you say something or because of the clothes you wear, you get identified as an american and it is rough, because the world hates us and it is clearly bush’s fault.

I mean come on. We sent John Bolton to the UN. A guy who thinks that the UN should be razed to the ground. For the first 6 years of the bush administration he has made it clear he doesn’t give a rat’s ass what the world thinks. So naturally the world thought the worse of him.

I have to admit. The last two years he has done a bit better. But he dug too deep of a hole.

No matter who the next president is, McCain or huckabee, or clinton or obama, the world will like us better, because nothing has made the people of the world hate us more in my lifetime than george w bush.

Not really sure how it is possible to argue this point.

By the way I really have a hard time judging how people feel in Iraq or afganistan. I try to read blogs of people who live there, but really the best way is just to get on a plane and go there. Of course, it’s just way too dangerous to go there right now.

  • 134. Spare  |  February 19th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

Of all of George W. Bush’s achievements made in office, there’s one you cannot ignore for sheer magnitude: The complete discrediting and disqualification of the Republican Party for at least two generations.

If the Democrats had any organization or willpower, they would have hand-picked George W. Bush as a double-agent. The damage that he has done to his party is near irreversible.
