The George W. Bush Presidential Library

by Matt Margolis on February 22nd, 2008 at 09:28pm

The location of the library has now been determined.

Southern Methodist University in Dallas has been selected as the home for U.S. President George W. Bush’s presidential library, the school said on Friday.

The university had been widely seen as the front-runner to house the facilities which will consist of a library for the Bush administration’s documents, a museum and a public policy institute.

Robert A.M. Stern, dean of the Yale University School of Architecture, will design the buildings.

I have to say I am very pleased with the selection of Robert A.M. Stern as the architect. I met Mr. Stern several years ago when I was an undergraduate architecture student, and admire his work. I look forward to seeing the design proposal.

Actually, Reuters is somewhat misleading in their story. SMU is located in the City of University Park which is a small (2000 population - 23,324), high-income (estimated 2005 median income - $91,200 island city within the city limits of Dallas.

  2. Uncommon says:

SMU wants the Bush Jr Presidential Library? I guess it makes sense since they are known for football, not their academics. I couldn’t imagine Harvard, Stanford, Yale, et al vying for that one.

  3. Diana Powe says:

The only way that SMU is “known for football” is not in a good way.

  4. Matt Margolis says:

I suspect academics was never your thing Uncommon.

  5. Faceplant says:

Meanwhile, the documents exhibit will be closed. Bush administration officials cited the state secrets privilege.

  6. liberalT says:

actually a large majority of the faculty of SMU oppose the library and are horrified by it. Unfortunately the board of trustees thinks differently. It took several years and many protests. How about that Mark and Matt - your hero had to spend several years just finding some place that would host his library cause so that ‘children do learn’ could be legacy students at yale just like him. yuk yuk yuk,

  7. Christian Wright says:

The entire collection of the George W Bush library consists of “My Pet Goat” and a collection of Lone Ranger comic books.

  8. James says:

Faceplant, I believe you’re thinking about the Clinton library and all the Clinton administration documents under lock and key.

If the Clinton Library was put on a college campus there would have been a lot of outrage.. that’s probably why they bought their own land for it.

  9. James says:

And the Clinton library is full of subscriptions to Hustler.

  10. Christian Wright says:

[yeah, this comment was already posted elsewhere.]

  11. Darva Conger says:

    James:

The Clinton library seems more interesting.

  12. Kahn says:

Darva, thats yo momma in last months Hustler CF, isn’t it?

I mean, as long as we’re in the gutter.

  13. Darva Conger says:

    Kahn:

Gutter huh? Like page-chasing Foley and wide-stance Craig?

Look, I am meeting friends later. I’m done now. I’ll play more later this weekend. Bye.

  14. LiberalMind says:

I see have the usual childish gibberish and grade school insults from Kahn

    The usual…….

  15. Kahn says:

Darva - Homophobic gay basher! Actually, a typical “liberal”.

  16. Faceplant says:

“Darva - Homophobic gay basher! Actually, a typical “liberal”.”

What was possibly homophobic abou the comment Darva made?

  17. Yakki.PsD says:

Did anything have to be homophobic about his post?

We are talking about a “Moral Majority” voter here.

  18. TiredofLibBullSh** says:

Wow, looking at the leftists’ posts……….

WHY DO LIBERALS HATE SO MUCH?

I though they were the party of tolerance and understanding.

    My hopes are now crushed.

  19. Christian Wright says:

Only repressed gays are hostile to the openly gay.

True heterosexuals are not threatened by gay marriage etc.

  20. TiredofLibBullSh** says:

“Only repressed gays are hostile to the openly gay.
True heterosexuals are not threatened by gay marriage etc”

Oh, so only repressed conservatives are hostile to the openly conservative.

    I’ll buy that.

If you had any sense CW, you would wake up and shoot yourself for being stupid.

  22. PoetryInMotion says:

And this is supposed to be a surprise, libretardTHC? It’s a university, moron! And don’t let the “SMU” fool you, a lot of so-called Christian colleges are riddled with leftist kooks. The left has a monopoly on academia; a tenured professor doesn’t have to work that hard and has much time on his/her hands to promote their Marxist agenda.

The entire collection of the George W Bush library consists of “My Pet Goat” and a collection of Lone Ranger comic books.

The entire collection of CW’s wardrobe consists of three boxes of Pampers, a dozen bibs, some burping towels, and three baby blankets.

If you had any sense CW, you would wake up and shoot yourself for being stupid.

js, if we could only be so fortunate. And maybe he’d whack a few of the other troll pukes before turning the gun on himself. That would be even better.

Disclaimer: By agreeing with js that the troll pukes are a waste of oxygen, and suggesting that suicide would be honorable, I was in no way, shape, or form threatening to do them any harm. I am a peace-lovin’, lib-hatin redneck who loves his God, his wife, his dogs, his cat, and his guns. I have much compassion for the retards who pollute this blog, and only wish that they’d put themselves out of their obvious misery…

  23. Nietzsche-Is-Pietzsche says:

    Tired-

“Oh, so only repressed conservatives are hostile to the openly conservative.
    I’ll buy that.”

Being repressed is one of the prerequisites of being a conservative.

  24. Darva Conger says:

    Kahn:

You missed the whole point again, as standard.

You fixate on the type of sex instead of what was the crime/unethical behavior.

In Foley’s case it was going after young pages (some perhaps underage) providing them with drinks, endless text messaging. That would have been wrong regardless of the sex of the pages that were the interest to Foley.

In Craig’s case it was soliciting sex in a public place. Again, that is a crime regardless of the sex of the person Craig was trying to hook up with.

Liberals who have issues with Craig and Foley, like me, don’t give a s*** about what sex he was trying to do it with.
That is what YOU conservatives get all wrapped around the head with.

We Liberals are ticked that GOP men who supposedly are the keepers of the “Traditional Values” flame are getting caught trying to have sex with young pages by getting them drunk or getting sex in a public restrooms in MN.

As others have pointed out, nothing in my post was against homosexuals. YOU are the one that went there.

My post shows how some GOP members of the House and Senate live in the, as you call it, “gutter.”

OK, keefer, we get it. You would eliminate all liberals if it were legal.

What do you think of the GWB library, though? Would you make a special trip to visit it? To witness with your own eyes all the wonderful accomplishments of his Presidency should fill your heart with joy. You could live off the high it would give you for days.

  26. NeoClown says:

Dubya has been kicked around enough. Why can’t they just leave him alone?
Building a library for an illiterate person is not only mean spirited, it is cruel.

  27. Kahn says:

Darva - thanks for the “perhaps”. Thats innuendo. Unprovable. And standard practice for your side, isn’t it? Isn’t that what the NYT did to McCain this week? Don’t make any actual assertions, and they can’t be countered. Someone can’t disprove a claim, if you only suggest and never make a claim at all.

It is the way a coward attacks. I I am clearly, openly, calling you a coward. I think I “get” your point. I just disagree.

    Coward.

  28. Darva Conger says:

Deleted - waaaaaay the heck off topic. Ed. Note wants to know - are you kidding me?

  29. Darva Conger says:

Yep, I prove that Khan is wrong for calling me a coward, I show him proof Foley indeed solicited underage teen pages. I’m called a coward and a spreader of innuendo, and my post gets deleted.

    Way to go.

    About par for the course.

  30. SteaM says:

In a December 16 letter to R. Gerald Turner, president of the Board of Trustees, members of SMU’s Perkins School of Theology have urged the board to “reconsider and to rescind SMU’s pursuit of the presidential library.”

We count ourselves among those who would regret to see SMU enshrine attitudes and actions widely deemed as ethically egregious: degradation of habeas corpus, outright denial of global warming, flagrant disregard for international treaties, alienation of long-term U.S. allies, environmental predation, shameful disrespect for gay persons and their rights, a pre-emptive war based on false and misleading premises, and a host of other erosions of respect for the global human community and for this good Earth on which our flourishing depends.

The letter concludes, “[T]hese violations are antithetical to the teaching, scholarship, and ethical thinking that best represents Southern Methodist University.”

  31. Almiranta says:

Nutsy is Putzy scores again, with yet another peek into the intolerant abyss that passes for the Liberal “mind” when he claims “Being repressed is one of the prerequisites of being a conservative”

Isn’t that just too too precious? Putzy has come up with a sweeping genralization which encapsulates his entire intellecutual capacity. It is wrong, it is snotty, and it is supposed to excuse his vile prejudice.

Good work, Putz—you usually have to exert yourself more to accomplish the same thing.

BTW, I was disappointed to see that no one commented on Bill’s liberry looking like a trailer house.

And Poetry in Moron seems tickled to be so in synch with Osama hissownself, who was equally imprssed by the pet goat comment. Soul mates, I guess.

Isn’t it a hoot that all the Libs can come up with is sniping at a man (Foley) who, while not very nice, broke no laws, and a man (Craig) who never spoke to nor touched the man who accused him of sexually oriented toe-tapping, while lauding a man who actually was convicted of actually having sex with underage pages, and just ignoring a sentaor who had a gay brothel run out of his house. And all this trash-talk is related to the Bush library —- how?

I’d also take a pass on a chance to visit NeoClown’s unique universe—-it seems to be a place where self-described (though accurately so) clowns can claim that graduates of Yale, who went on to become fighter jet pilots and to hold MBAs from Harvard, are “illiterate”. Thankfully, only on Planet Clown, a place none of us is ever going to want to visit.

  32. TiredofLibBullShit says:

    NIPpie,

being a USEFUL IDIOT is a prerequisite of being a liberal.

Being conservative there is always a means for improvement. Being liberal however, as seen with the latest crowd in the House, Senate and the blogosphere there is no hope.

  33. Christian Wright says:

    js:

Just admit how you really feel and accept yourself for the person you are. You will feel better about yourself. Projecting your self-hate and loathing upon others is just wrong.

  34. Ricorun says:

Here’s an interesting twist on the Bush library story, and how it relates to, among other things, the border wall. If this weren’t so pathetic it might be funny.
