Democrats Pressuring Hillary to Quit
March 2nd, 2008 at 08:24pm Mark Noonan
Contrast this to the grudging acceptance in the GOP of Huckabee’s entirely quixotic campaign:
Top supporters of Senator Barack Obama, joined by at least one prominent but uncommitted Democrat, raised the pressure Sunday on Senator Hillary Clinton to bow out of the presidential nominating race if she fails to score clear victories in two big-state primary contests Tuesday.
“I just think that D-Day is Tuesday,” said Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, a former Democratic presidential hopeful who has yet to throw his weight behind either leading candidate. He said the increasingly negative campaign advertisements aired by both Democrats made it more urgent that the party unite quickly behind a nominee…
…Richardson, saying that it was vital to Democrats’ hopes in the November election to mount a positive, unifying campaign, said on CNN that “whoever has the most delegates after Tuesday, a clear lead, should be, in my judgment, the nominee.” For that to be Clinton, she would have to dramatically exceed the results predicted by polls, which now show Texas a virtual toss-up after weeks of steady progress there by Obama, while Ohio voters narrowly favor Clinton.
Boiled down, they are getting so worried over in Democrat-land that even if Hillary wins Texas and Ohio, they want her out - because by now there’s enough polling data to show that she’s by far the weaker candidate to run against McCain. They’re not so much worried about what she’ll do to Obama - they’re worried that after all is said and done, she might beat Obama, and then go on to get beaten by McCain and if there’s one thing Matt and I discovered in writing Caucus of Corruption, the only thing which scares a Democrat is the prospect of losing a race. So much for loyalty; so much for letting the people and the delegates decide - regardless of what the people want, the Democratic leaderships wants Hillary out and Obama in.
Personally, I think that either candidate brings strengths and weaknesses to the table - and while it would be sweet to beat a Clinton, I think that we can just as well beat either of them, or lose to either of them if we screw it up. Naturally, the longer the Democratic contest goes on, the better for we GOPers…but, still, there is something unseemly in senior Democrats trying to declare it over before it actually is.

Texas Republicans, vote Hillary. My wife and I have already done so. Help create the trainwreck in Denver over the issue of the “Democratic” party disenfranchising entire states of “Democratic” voters! What ever happened to the hollow mantra of let every vote be counted? Or at least 4 counties, not military votes or Republican counties!
And now the let every vote count party is disenfranchising entire states—in their own party!

They will let her stay a senator from New York if she quits. If not, they will send her back to Clinton, Arkansas….
Strange how politics work.

“Clinton said Jan. 25 that delegates from Florida and Michigan should be seated at the Democratic National Convention in August.
Dean said the dispute over seating delegates is the fault party leaders, not Florida voters.
“If they would like to fix that problem so that we can seat Florida without any problems, of course we would like to seat Florida,” he said.
Crist said, “I think it’s very important though that those delegates are seated.
“I’m hopeful that the Democratic National Committee comes to the conclusion it’s the right thing to do,” he said on CNN today.”
And that is why Dean would like Hillary to fold now. Only if she withdraws would he like to see Florida and Michigan seated. He wants Barry Socialist Obama as the nominee. If Hillary remains, Denver will be UGLY for the “Democratic” Party. Poetic.

I think Hillary’s plight is a classic case of “what goes around, comes around”.
Hillary got to spend 8 years in the White House because she was part of a ticket that was Cool New Guy against Old Codger—and her side was Cool New Guy.
Now Barack is the Cool New Guy, and Hillary is the Codger.
What’s more, she and Bill were fantastically successful because they were absolutely brilliant at emotional manipulation, and now she is the one trying to inject notes of reality and sanity into the same kind of hero-worship identity politics that served her so well, back in the day.
It is driving her CRAZY to see the same nonsensical spin that she and Bill used to apply, and to have it used against her.
I actually felt a little sorry for her when she made a very common-sense comment, about how MLK had his dream but it took an experienced politician to make it come true, and that was turned against her in an absolutely Clintonian mass attack that completely overlooked what she really said, completely overlooked the reality behind it, and completely swamped her in demagogic hysteria.
Much as I dislike everything that Hillary stands for, and always has stood for, I think she is infinitely better qualified to lead the country than Obama is, and infinitely more competent as far as understanding how things work in DC and how to get things done.
I remember liking Jimmah Cahtah, because I liked his idealism, his enthusiasm, and his Outside-the-Beltway “change” approach. And the man was completely impotent, completely incompetent, never had a clue, and ended up being the most horrible president of a century or so. Not to mention the harm done to the country after he left the presidency, as his radical Leftism became more and more apparent.
I see Obama as the New Carter—but with charisma.

Seeing that the Democrat party’s most outspoken people are also the antiwar members of the Democrat party… is there any you wouldn’t expect them to say.
Obama is leading for one simple fact…. forget the crap about his speeches or that he stands for change…
Obama is only a contender because he runs on a platform of commencing a time table of withdrawing US troops from Iraq.
All exits polls for Democrats show Iraq as the number 1 issue and Obama is winning most of those taking in 60+% of the vote.

Another ex Clintonista throws Hillary under the bus.
Richardson is angling for the VP slot. Since he’s of Mexican lineage he is banking on convincing Obama that he can deliver the Hispanic vote.

Sorry, Bob, but most polls show that the economy is the top issue for most people. I wouldn’t discard Clinton if she could give us the economy that Bill gave us. Tons of Texans feel this way and we are voting for Hillary on the 4th. This primary now is gathering momentum. God knows I was not planning to vote, but now I’m going because of this is a close race and I want Hillary Clinton to win it.

Sorry Mark -
In pledged delegates won at the ballot box, Clinton is behind by about 160. When you include the super-delegates that have declared thus far, she’s behind Obama by 110. Because delegates are allocated proportionally to the popular vote in the democratic contests, it is almost mathematically impossible for Hillary to catch Obama which the few remaining states. She would need to win upwards of 65% on the vote in all the remaining states to beat him.
If she does not hugely cut into his delegate lead on Tues (ie win both Texas and Ohio by more than 15% each), then she is finished. The people have spoken.

The economy Bill gave us? Oh, and the majority Republican congress too, right?

Michigan, Whats the count if they seat Michigan and Florida?

Kahn,
That was terrific and hysterical! Pat Condell is dead-on! He describes exactly how and why Britain is capitulating to Islam. Nice to know at least a few people in Britain have a spine! Thank you for posting that!
Almiranta,
As usual, you said what I believe and you said it better than I ever could! Nothing to add.

Hillary might win OH, but she has lost TX. It over you, GOPers. You don’t get to run against Hillary.

Did anyone see Sean Hannity’s “Hannity’s America”, tonight? It was absolutely devastating against Barack Hussein Obama! I hope Sean replays it over and over again between now and November.

I didn’t think Muqtada Al had an army now. And that is the reason for his cease fire, if he shows his head, it’s gone. Boom. Boom, boom. Scary thoughts for the cut and runners. The only ones that don’t know it are American liberals and the MSM.
19. Darva Conger | March 3rd, 2008 at 1:23 am
SEW:
How long was the O2 cut off to your brain?
If al-Sadr has no army, why then on Feb 22, 2008 did the U.S. military praise al-Sadr for extending the cease fire.
Why didn’t our U.S. military just come out and say, John Wayne style, “Hey, we don’t give a s*** about any cease fire extension by al-Sadr. Let him end the cease fire. Let him show his head. Boom, boom, boom.”
If he has no army, why didn’t our military just call his bluff? Perhaps our military knows something that American neocons who sit at their computers don’t know?

Listening to you leftists reminds me of that old Dusty Springfield song “Wishing and Hoping”
The race won’t end after Tuesday, not without some backroom deal by the Super delegates, and the assent of Hillary.
As someone pointed out, the delgates are approtioned according to the vote. Based on current polling, Texas is close and Ohio isn’t. If the election goes the way of the polls, Hillary closes the gap ever so slightly because of her greater margin of victory in Ohio. The Clinton spin machine will paint her as the “Comeback Kid”. She and her donors will be re-energized and the battle will continue.
Personally I could care less which one wins the primary. I just want them to continue to spend their money attacking each other. By so doing they deplete their resources and polarize their party into warring factions.
It ain’t over ’till the fat lady sings.

If I were Howard Dean, I’d be calling her 25 times a day asking her to step down for the good of the country.

Darva, Glad to see someone in your house watched John Wayne. Playing with your Pee Wee Herman and Barbie collections can be very time consuming. Is peek-a-boo your favorite game?

SEW and Darva,
of course Al Sadr doesn’t have an army. We all know the only enemy is Al Qaeda, no one else. Wait a minute, wasn’t Saddam an enemy, isn’t Iran almost an enemy. Then they must be Al Qaeda. They are all AL Qaeda so we have a carte blanche to attack anywhere cause we all know how much cons love war and killing.
