“For Obama to speak thusly betrays either a startling ignorance of the faith he professes, or a cynical desire to hijack the words of Christianity for un-Christian causes. ”

    Or both.

But wait—wasn’t there some absolute hysteria not long ago, when Huckabee said something about wanting to base some laws on Biblical teachings?

That’s right—when a Republican says anything even remotely religious, he is advocating A THEOCRACY. When a Dem does, even when he states he hopes to make a Kingdom right here on earth, well, that’s OK—as is running political rallies like old-time tent revivals. I did hear Obama ask for an Amen once. But that’s cool—he’s the Good Guy.

So he is using a Bible reference to explain his belief on civil unions of gays.

Huckabee (which Ranty is using to compare) claimed that he would like to “amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards”.

Umm… you can’t see the difference?

    Joe,

No, ‘fraid we can’t…Obama wants to make our laws conform to his understanding of the Bible, and so does Huckabee…and yet to the left, Huckabee is a theocrat, and Obama isn’t…

C’mon guys—remember that troll who used to call me “Ranty” and be upset at every single word I wrote? You know, the one who disappeared when “Joe” showed up?

    Still striking out, “Joe”.

And Huckabee never ever EVER held a “political” rally that reeked of tent revival fervor, or imitated the pulpit-pounding preacher style that Obama has taken on. I even heard him ask once “is there an ‘Amen’ to that?”

Of course, Republicans also don’t campaign in churches, giving political speeches in what are portrayed as religious services and then having the pastor INSTRUCT the congregation to vote for said candidate, which is par for the course for Dems.

Query: Why is it that the most rabid of the Dems who insist that there really IS a Constitutional requirement for “separation between church and state” also object whenever a conservative suggests that a church should lose its tax-exempt status if it openly campaigns for a candidate?

    Isn’t that—hypocritical?

    Isn’t that—hypocritical?

Not if it is preceded with an adequate number of buts,e.g.,
“but, but, but…” and no logic allowed after the buts. They also have to use the word “concensus” repeadedly until they have one.
