I believe all troll pukes who suffer from BDS should be confined to one thread in this blog, so they can spew their nonsense without inconveniencing the rest of us. This list of troll pukes should include, but not be limitied to: plaincowjane, Diana, StreaM, congressive-broder, libretardTHC, CO, bagboy the alien, little snake, orange sunshine, and Mindless Lib. There are others, and I’m sure they’ll pipe in here.

I’m tired of reading their redundant b/s, as are many of our fine former posters.

This one is a real classic!

Eric, that’s the understatement of the year. I’d love to see the stereotypical negative campaign ads replaced with ones like this.

Or, as I posted on an earlier thread, how about if Hillary ends up being the Dem nominee, (and, at this point, I wouldn’t bet against her) running a variation of the 3AM phone call ad against her.

Can’t you just picture a 2 part ad where a Hillary look-alike is chasing a Bill look-alike around the White House residence quarters, screaming “for God’s sake, she’s only 19 years old”, and throwing ashtrays and lamps at him as a phone in the background rings and rings and rings while in the second part, a sleeping John McCain wakes to the sound of the phone next to his bed; picks it up on the 2nd ring and says to the voice on the other end, “I’ll meet you in the situation room in 5 minutes.”

Spook - would love to see such an add. How would one be done if Obama was the canidate?

  • 6. Almiranta  |  March 7th, 2008 at 11:03 am

I think a blank look followed by a stammering comment that all we can do is “hope” for “change” would do.

BTW, how do you other conservatives feel about the bleak outlook on America required to buy into the Obama “change” meme?

Here is a black man (well, half-balck, though he seems to deny his white heritage) who put himself through college, including Harvard Law, married to a black woman who attended Princeton. She is now making more than $300,000 a year, he is a Senator and a leading contender for the Presidency of the United States of America, and all they can talk about is how awful this country is.

Oh, aside from Michelle blundering and saying it out loud (”for the first time in my adult life….I am proud…”) it’s mostly subtext, but it is inherent in the assertion that this country is in such dire straits that all it needs is CHANGE—-any change, in any direction, BUT FOR GOD’S SAKE DON’T LET IT GO ON LIKE IT IS !!!!!

I’d actually have a little respect for the Obamas if they would stand up and talk about this greatest nation on earth, brag about the fact that it went from slavery to being ready to elect a black man to the presidency in just over 150 years, use their ability to educate themselves and rise to their current lifestyles as proof of the goodness of the country and its willingness to correct its mistakes—if they could just find something to love and admire about the country.

It’s a mixture of negativism—”This country is so awful the only thing I can offer it is HOPE that I can make it DIFFERENT..” and arrogance “…..I am the best hope for this miserable place and its miserable people, and without me you will just continue to be miserable..”

At least McCain is proud to be an American.

How would one be done if Obama was the canidate?

KJ, the problem with Obama is that nothing he’s done or says lends itself to a humorous approach compared to the Clintons where the potential for humor is almost limitless. Obama’s vision for America is just downright frightening. If Barack ends up with the nomination, I think the best that McCain can hope for it to keep pointing out that, while Obama claims to be the one who can reach out and unite people, his voting records suggests just exactly the opposite. During his short tenure in the U.S. Senate, no one (and I do mean NO ONE) has reached out less to the other side than Barack Obama. John McCain, OTOH, (whether you like it or not) has probably reached out to the other side as much or more than ANYONE ELSE in either party. If it’s done right (not in a nasty, condescending way), I think that approach will completely negate one of Obama’s strongest appeals to voters who haven’t rationally examined how his words and actions are at total odds with each other.

Bottom line, though; I don’t think we have to worry about Obama being the Donk candidate. The Clinton machine is simply going to do whatever it takes to defeat him — period! And if I’m wrong on that, I’ll be glad to come back here after the Democrat Convention and admit it.

  • 8. Darva Conger  |  March 7th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

“I’d actually have a little respect for the Obamas if they would stand up and talk about this greatest nation on earth.”

    Then start respecting him:

“I owe what I am to this country I love, and I will never forget it. Where else could a young man who grew up herding goats in Kenya get the chance to fulfill his dream of a college education? Where else could he marry a white girl from Kansas whose parents survived war and depression to find opportunity out west?

Where else could they have a child who would one day have the chance to run for the highest office in the greatest nation the world has ever known? Where else, but in the United States of America?”

The March 4, 2008 remarks of Obama show he is indeed a proud American, Almiranta; a proud American who has seen his country regress over the past 8 years and would like make some positive changes.

Perhaps, as Darva Conger suggests, a little respect is in order.

    US household wealth declines
    By Krishna Guha in Washington

    Published: March 6 2008 20:35 | Last updated: March 6 2008 23:00

American households are getting poorer for the first time in more than five years, Federal Reserve figures revealed on Thursday.

Data showed total household wealth fell $533bn to $57,718bn in the fourth quarter, as falling share prices added to the damage from dropping house prices.

The decline will heighten fears that households could pull back from spending as they become poorer and less able to tap sources of credit, potentially tipping the US economy over the brink into recession.

Nope. Look the other way. Nothing to see here either!

Job losses: Worst in 5 years
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Employers made their deepest cut in staffing in almost five years in February, the Labor Department reported Friday.

There was a net loss of 63,000 jobs, which is the biggest decline since March 2003 and weaker than the revised 22,000 jobs lost in January. Economists had forecast a gain of 25,000 jobs.

The weak report fueled already mounting recession fears and is likely to keep the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates further when it meets later this month.

Just keep claiming that everything is peachy.

  • 12. js  |  March 7th, 2008 at 1:27 pm

    is this socialism or what!!

“A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare,” the judge wrote, quoting from a 1961 case on a similar issue.

Just keep claiming that everything is peachy.

    Joe,

As you know, I haven’t been one who has claimed that “everything is peachy”, although in 2007 my business had it’s best year since 1997. OTOH, it’s a lot easier to cry and whine and moan than it is to suggest what kinds of policies would lead to economic improvement, and who would be the candidate most likely to implement those policies.

I know you’re going to vote for whomever is the Dem candidate, regardless of which one it is; so tell us, what you think either Hillary or Barack would do that would lead to economic improvement. To back up your claim, please cite votes they’ve made and policies they’ve supported in the past that would bolster your level of confidence.

As an historical perspective, Jimmy Carter would have given his left arm for 4.3% inflation, 4.8% unemployment, 6% fixed mortgage rates and a budget deficit of only 1.4% of GDP.

  • 14. Magnum Serpentine  |  March 7th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

During this election cycle, a very important event occurred. the Messenger space probe arrived at Mercury, and no network nor did the Clinton News Network broadcast any news on it. Only MSNBC’s On line site had a small piece about it.

This is the first space probe to reach Mercury since Mariner 10 in 1974-1975.

    And no one cares.

    Well Spook…

    Just some of the ideas…

—> A small but worthwhile tax cut for lower-middle and low income workers. For short money, you can get them a small amount of needed cash to hopefully assist in bettering their life and putting money into the economy as they will most definitely spend it quickly.
—> He is proposing a supplement to Social Security for low-income seniors. Again, they are most likely to spend quickly.
—> He is proposing a fund to help families avoid foreclosure aimed at responsible borrowers and not speculators or buyers of a vacation home.
—> Provide $10bil to State & Local Govts hit hard by the housing crisis.
—> Extend and expand unemployment insurance.
—> Eliminate income taxes on seniors making less than 50k.
—> Eliminate multi-nationals use of tax havens.
—> Eliminate capital gains tax of start-up businesses.
    —> Mandate accurate loan disclosure.
—> End tax breaks for Companies that send jobs overseas.

Do you need me to continue?

“Vote For McCain: At least it is better than 1979!”

Yeah, Darva, just a “little” better At the end of 1980 (Carter’s last year in office):

    Inflation:

    1980 - 13.5%
    2007 - 4.3%

    Mortgage rates: (30 year FRM)

    1980 - 13%
    2007 - 6.6%

    Unemployment:

    1980 - 7.2%
    2007 - 4.8%

Fed. Deficit as % of GDP

    1980 - 4.3%
    2007 - 1.4%

As I said — historical perspective.

  • 20. Retired Spook  |  March 7th, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Do you need me to continue?

No, Joe, what you’ve listed sounds expensive enough. YIKES, grab your wallets.

  • 21. Joe  |  March 7th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

SEW, I just read the article you posted. Maybe the IPO and the story behind it is a bit harsh, but there isn’t anything illegal or immoral about it. Do you have a point?

  • 22. Joe  |  March 7th, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Spook… easy enough to pay for.
Let the tax breaks on those making >$500k expire.

Let’s build the middle class back up to where it was several years ago and everyone will make money. As it is now the middle class is quickly dwindling away. Without it, we are in a world of hurt.
With it and there are people to buy goods making money for the businesses and making money for their stock holders.

Trickle-down has proven to not work a couple times now.

  • 23. Joe  |  March 7th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

    One more thing Spook.
You asked — “what you think either Hillary or Barack would do that would lead to economic improvement”

I answered. If you don’t like the answers, that is why you don’t vote for them. But I gave you answers.

Now… what is your guy/party’s plan to fix the issues?

  • 24. Ricorun  |  March 7th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

I’m a bit of an alternative energy junkie. I don’t see any way around it in the future, for a variety of reasons. So I keep up on new ideas, research, designs, investment, development, manufacturing, and implementation. There is a lot of interesting stuff out there. And sometimes I do find it challenging to suppress my enthusiasm with reality. But I don’t have a hard time with this idea. It just might be the weirdest one I’ve come across yet: solar roads.

These guys actually think it’s possible to embed solar PV cells in highways around the country. I guess it’s fun to contemplate. But every time I try the only thing that comes into any real focus are dollar signs. How on earth could embedding solar panels in roadways ever be cheaper than, say, covering every rooftop in the country with solar panels? Even that’s pricey — but 18-wheelers don’t generally travel on rooftops. Maybe you get a little traffic at Christmas time, but that’s about it. I think I’ll file this one in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” drawer.

    A Bush third term?

  • 26. Tractatus  |  March 7th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Everybody knows good corporations don’t pay taxes:

Kellogg Brown & Root, the nation’s top Iraq war contractor and until last year a subsidiary of Halliburton Corp., has avoided paying hundreds of millions of dollars in federal Medicare and Social Security taxes by hiring workers through shell companies based in this tropical tax haven.

When Texas pipe-fitter Danny Langford applied for unemployment compensation after being let go by Service Employers International Inc., he was rejected, he was told, because he worked for a foreign company.

More than 21,000 people working for KBR in Iraq – including about 10,500 Americans – are listed as employees of two companies that exist in a computer file on the fourth floor of a building on a palm-studded boulevard here in the Caribbean. Neither company has an office or phone number in the Cayman Islands.

The Defense Department has known since at least 2004 that KBR was avoiding taxes by declaring its American workers as employees of Cayman Islands shell companies, and officials said the move allowed KBR to perform the work more cheaply, saving Defense dollars.

I expect all the wignnuts here in perpetual bitch mode about how “Social Security is doomed, and we must privatize it in order to give a sop to Wall Stree–er, ’save’ it!” to be outraged that a company that suckles so hard on the government’s teat dodges paying taxes and screws over its employees in the process.

Actually, I expect nothing of the sort to happen. That would require too much integrity.

“On Obama’s 16-month Iraq withdrawal plan, Power told BBC that it was a “best-case scenario,” that nothing firm could be decided in March 2008 without seeing the situation on the ground in Jan. 2009 and that “He will, of course, not rely on some plan that he’s crafted as a presidential candidate or a U.S. Senator.”

Obama the war monger. Obama lied and more people will die! Impeach Obama the liar! He has already sided with Exxon and Halliburton! He wants the oil and personal wealth! He wants to make his cronies like Rezko wealthier than they are.

  • 29. NeoClown  |  March 7th, 2008 at 10:39 pm

People accuse Obama of having a thin resume. People say Obama lacks leadership experience and he doesn’t have much of a record to judge.
I disagree. I say Obama has quite an extensive public record to critique. Here’s a sample:

At the beginning of the campaign Obama was for public campaign financing – now he says he’s not.

While Obama was telling American voters he was against NAFTA, his spokesman was telling Canadian officials not to pay any attention because Obama was just making campaign promises.

While Obama promised American voters he would end the war in Iraq in 2009, his spokesperson was telling the BBC that Obama had no intention of keeping his word.

Obama smokes – bad judgment. Obama admitted smoking pot – bad judgment. Obama admitted using cocaine – bad judgment. Mrs. Obama has never been proud of being an American. Obama is offended if you speak his middle name. Obama is offended if you show him in his native dress. Obama is offended if you show tape of his Grandmother in Africa.

As you can see, Obama has quite a record of bad judgment, lying to American voters, and being offended by stuff.

  • 30. SEW  |  March 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm

Every 4 years the Dem candidate promises the progressive voter a new car, free health care, a strong economy, green jobs, more pay and less work, double vacation time and the bill will be sent to Halliburton and other evil doers and the wealthy.

And every 4 years the progressive voter buys it.

This year Joe will be given a new Barbie doll and a Pee Wee Herman doll for his special efforts in addition to the free car.

    About Us
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:
    1. Commitment to God

    4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
    5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence

This is a clip of Craig Ventor talking about his latest research. Ventor is the guy that was very instrumental in helping to complete the human genome project ahead of schedule and under budget. Since then he’s been working on synthesizing DNA.

He did it. He and his co-workers managed to fabricate an entire chromosome entirely from scratch, get it into a bacterium and get it to completely replace the original DNA material. The result is what is in effect an entirely new, entirely synthetic species.

In the mean time he took a little sail around the world, sampling little critters along the way, and creating an inventory of the millions of different genes he found in the various different species he sampled. Now he intends to use them to create new critters capable of doing just about any task desired. One of the things he intends pursue first is to produce an organism that can convert CO2 into biofuels. He figures he pull that off in 18 months.

This clip is incredible. Ventor ramples on, apparently oblivious to the fact that just about everything he says is totally mind blowing.

No politician is perfect, if we scratch the surface we’ll see that they all have their skeletons. Fact is that it is about time we start demanding a competent president who cares about the welfare of the American people. Stop acting like the paparazzi and start acting like a responsible voter.
