Democratic Convention Misses Fundraising Mark

March 19th, 2008 at 12:57am Mark Noonan

Interesting - from Real Clear Politics:

The host committee for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver has missed a key fundraising goal, the Rocky Mountain News reports today. The committee, which was supposed to come up with $28 million by yesterday, stands about $5 million short, according to a spokesman.

It is the second time Denver has missed a deadline, making some nervous the party might not reach the $40.6 million goal by mid-June. Even that figure, the spokesman said, is probably short of the $45 to $50 million convention organizers will need to operate the four-day event without going into debt. Those watching convention fundraising suggest the shortfall is caused by the lack of a Democratic nominee.

The report does go on to note that the Convention fundraising is still outpacing 2004’s effort - and so is the GOP’s Convention fundraising effort. But one is left thinking - are Hillary and Obama just sucking up all the Democratic money? Will there be enough left for the Convention and the fall campaign? And not just the Presidential contests, but all those down-ballot contests for House, Senate, State legislature and governorship?

Time will tell…

They should go to the WWE for funding. Judging by their unity so far…

    Good morning Noonan!
    [Yawn, stretch]

I bet you feel like this is a great day to be an American! I sure I still was but being able to reach out and touch you guys will have to do. The duties of an Imperial Citizen are never done, what’s a gal to do? Now I know you are great at spinning but I think the gap in fundraising across the board between the GOP and the Democrats deserves a bit more examination than that.

First off, the White House really isn’t that important anymore except to people looking to pack the courts to overturn Roe v Wade and it’s almost to the point where you’ve become a three issue party. If the Democrats got universal health care a fair tax to replace the Bush tax cuts and ended the march to shame in Iraq to focus on rooting out al Qaeda in Pakistan Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia the left would still have plenty of work to do.

Social Security needs fixing; the US infrastructure is a half decade from collapse and an audit of defense contracting procedures needs to get done pronto. And what about the fun stuff like space exploration and funding for greentech™? A federal gay marriage bill would be nice too just in case.

But the GOP has only abortion and the other cultural bigotry issues, immigration and border control and Iraq. Win the war overturn Roe and make a massive project to secure the border in 10 years [reasonable] and the party’s over! What’s the next issue? Uhhhh. [insert crickets chirping here]

But American Liberals and Progressives from Warren Buffet to George Soros don’t have that to worry about this go around because at the grass roots your people don’t have any money to throw away on false promises, fear or the hope of a theocracy. The crackers in the trailer parks who had a few quid to spare thanks to Bill Clinton in 2000 can barely afford their weekly 12 pack AND their donation to Rev John Hagee so something’s gotta give. Oh yeah, that and all those “moderates” giving the max to Barack Obama and the bond trading kids turning out their pockets for Hillary Clinton.

How much did that guy Christopher Ward steal from the RNCC, 1 million dollars? Wow that would be like getting all that money back from that crazy Oberweis campaign. And I’ll say it again you might count it as a victory to win the White House and that’s because 1600 Pennsy is all you guys have a ghost [I should know] of a hope at gaining.

Have fun Noonan because McCain, if he wins will have no coattails and will be facing a 61 democrat Senate and a 250 Democrat House. The mental image here is a very large dog that has been on a four year peanut butter only diet. Yep that’s right government locked up like a big dog! Congress passing legislation and political Walnuts vetoing everything that comes across his desk. And after those first 100 days when he hasn’t taken a call from Dobson or Hagee Rush and Ann will start in on him like mad. And then the midterm elections will come in 2010 and candidates will be using their own money and driving in their own cars and running one maybe two tee vee ads a week while Democrats recruit more Blue Dogs to seize and hold the center.

Hey maybe the center left brand of Democratic Party can form a permanent majority that takes the country through the turbulent times of the graying and death of the Baby Boomers™.

Word is now 10 million Boomers will suffer from Alzheimer’s, pity.

Hopefully Barry will set aside some of his $55 million from Feb 08 so Michelle will be able to write checks for nannys and summer camps for the kids. Spending it on his campaign is a lost cause.

Diane, how are revenues from your child porn advertisers going?

  • 4. Diane Tomlinson  |  March 19th, 2008 at 10:09 am

Michelle Obama has enough of her own earned money to more than cover keeping those two precious children well taken care of while the campaign goes on. The Secret Service our sources tell us are absolutely taken with the both of them which speaks highly for the well trained men and women of my favorite federal agency.

On to other matters, don’t they have libel laws in Dallas?

Our newspaper advertising revenues, both retail and service are soaring unlike the strength of the US dollar. Would your company like to advertise on our site it’s free!

I know you aren’t that bright SEW but even you know that it is illegal both in your country and in my country to transmit images of child pornography or advertise for the sale or transmission thereof.

I know what that sort of smear means SEW it’s like walking up to a candidate for office and asking, “Do you still beat your wife.”

If you are able to show where we have linked to kiddie porn against our knowledge I’d like to know so it can be removed. If you just tossed that out as a libelous dig well our lawyers assure us that AT&T will be cooperative in offering their IP logs so we can pursue the proper course of action in regard to defamation pending your sincere apology.

I was referring to the “Midwest Teen Sex show” ad. The ages of the other porn I can’t determine, can you? Art to you?

  • 6. SEW  |  March 19th, 2008 at 10:49 am

If the Midwest Teen Sex Show is not porn I apologize for lumping it with your mature photos.

  • 7. Diane Tomlinson  |  March 19th, 2008 at 10:58 am

    Apology accepted.

The Midwestteen Sex Show is about sex education for teens that actually teaches them how not to get pregnant or catch STDs and also says abstinence is okay but not the only way to be safe.

Diane, looks like SEW got just a little nervous when you called him on his statement. LOL. He is not to bright, but that is not an excuse to run his mouth about something as serious as child pornography.

  • 9. SEW  |  March 19th, 2008 at 11:16 am

Sunny, What is the set president [sic] to which you referred last week?

We take matters of journalistic integrity very seriously in Hell. While ours is an adult site dealing with adult issues we also respect the ideal that what we offer is not for everyone.

AND we have have very good stat analysis and lawyers!

Back on topic. Recently, the news hasa reported that big time contributors to donkey coffers are threatening to take their donations back or withhold future donations based on the Michigan/Florida fiasco and the inability of the donkey regime to fix it. Add to that the fact that the division in the party of the jackass is widening, and many have no reason to kick in their hard-earned dollars. Obama still seems to be able to get money from his vast network but not the national party.

the GLBT gals can be rough LOL

    With that said;
i am ready to contribute to the rats convention.
It’ll either be a gunfight or a knife fight on live TV, when ole berry shows up with bow tied goons from NOI as body guards.
Im running out of popcorn and beer on this earbama racist debacle.
The convention WILL be a RIOT to watch al la 1968 style, as the democrat “party” of freaks tears it’s self apart.
