Democrats: Err… your slip is showing.

by Leo Pusateri on March 20th, 2008 at 03:39pm

That about sums up this story at Fox News about democrats vowing once again to end the race debate in the 2008 campaign:

National Public Radio national correspondent Juan Williams, a FOX News analyst, said a potential complication following Obama’s speech is the attention that it continues to draw to the issue of race. It poses a problem in a campaign where the candidates are trying to focus on the economy, national security and health care.

“He doesn’t want to be the black candidate in the race, because he wants to be the candidate who transcends race … suddenly he’s back in the box as just a black candidate,” Williams said.

The race issue appears to have had an effect on voters.

A CBS poll showed that 25 percent of those surveyed had heard “a lot” about Wright’s comments, while 33 percent had heard some. Of those aware of the story, 15 percent of Democrats, 36 percent of Independents and 47 percent of Republicans said it made them see Obama less favorably.

A Rasmussen survey taken from March 14-16 of 1,200 likely voters showed 56 percent of those interviewed were less likely to vote for Obama because of the Wright’s sermons.

And for the second day in a row, Clinton took the lead in the Gallup daily tracking poll. The poll from March 15-17 showed Clinton with 47 percent support among Democrats and Obama with 44 percent. The two candidates have been neck-and neck throughout the month of March.

Obama’s speech Tuesday was widely praised as a heartfelt, candid assessment of racial divisions that put bitterness between whites and blacks in historical context.

“With this speech Barack Obama showed he’s ready to be president of the United States,” said Democratic strategist Dan Gerstein. “The question now is, is America ready for Barack Obama?”

But it was also widely noted that Obama will probably not be done with the race issue if he becomes the Democratic candidate.

The Democratic candidates are finally starting to realize that when it comes to tackling race, they run the risk of doing nothing other than airing their own dirty laundry.

The dirty little secret is that, despite their best efforts, race will always be an issue in a democrat campaign for any office in the land, because for the past five decades, democrats have set up their policies and rhetoric in such a manner that race matters.

Whether it’s regarding affirmative action or any of a myriad of class-warfare inspired talking points, the white limousine liberal establishment have set up the plantation in such a manner as to convince a whole race of people that they are victims; and as such, are powerless in matters of self-determination, and impotent with regard to their affairs without the “benevolent, paternal assistance” of the white limousine liberal establishment; who promise to be there to distribute meager morsels of sustenance as token rewards for their continuing allegiance.

And woe be to those who stray off of that plantation.

I have said it often, and I’ll say it again. If the KKK, the Nazis and the Aryan Nation suddenly came to power, they could do no more damage to Black Americans than that wrought by the limousine liberal establishment over the past five decades.

One cannot extract race from democrat politics. They are forever and inextricably intertwined; that is, as long as there continue to be people of differing levels of melanin who are willing to buy into their empty promises and scaremongering tactics.

Is this guy a scriptwriter for Bill O’Reilly?

Seriously though, whilever people are prepared to call Obama racist, this will continue, and it’s unfortunate that it is probably continuing to a degree purely because his skin isn’t white. I’ve heard the argument used that “ only gets because they are black, and denying them would cause them to cry racism” - not realising how racist their own comment is.

But the serious non-tabloid-loving Americans - and I hope there’s enough of them left - will be looking at policy, not race, and here Obama continues to trump McCain, which is why the right don’t want to talk about policy, they want to talk about (and be suspended for) race.

It is vitally important for the right, and the right-owned media to keep the focus on racism - because when it comes to comparing POLICIES, their candidate comes up empty.

It looks like Obama’s pastor problem just got worse. Illinois State Senator and pastor James Meeks, who is now a delegate pledged to Obama, said:

“We don’t have slave masters, we got mayors,” Meeks said then while preaching. “But they are still the same white people who are presiding over systems where black people are not able to be educated. You got some preachers that are house n——. You got some elected officials that are house n——. Rather than them try and break this up, they’re gonna fight you to protect that white

    man.”

Of course race matters, and we all know that. Marks right wing political correctness, you know, we are colorblind, it’s the democrats who are racists cause they support affirmative action., is just a cheap ruse so cons can pretend they are totally non racist. You seem to think that if it wasn’t for those Limousine liberals the blacks would listen to all the Escalade cons and become Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell clones. I lived through the riots and the civil rights of the sixties and, as flawed as some of the solutions were, almost all right thinking whites felt they had to give a leg up to blacks based on centuries slavery, isolation and oppression.
Sorry Mark, blaming black problems on liberals is just right wing political correctness, and just as meritricious as other forms of PC. No racist I know support affirmative action, welfare or gun control. At least have the guts to call the black miscreants out: you know the crackheads, welfare mothers, poverty pimps, real pimps, Afrocentric lie spewers, gangsters, dead beat dads and tell them how much they really tick you off. Instead, you attack liberals cause you are too weak to risk being called a racist.
You can spew the party line about horrible city schools and how vouchers will solve it all. Well the Farrakhans, Wrights, Sharptons nd the rest of the poverty pimps would love a chance to milk the voucher gravy train and start schools with afrocentric curriculums,

  5. js says:

Thats pretty ignorant statement to make about your host Morris.

Then again, I checked and, low and behold, Mark didnt blame black problems on liberals, thats your lie. He quoted an article titled “Jobs, poverty, and family breakup: the impacts of unemployment and poverty are contributing substantially to dissolution of American families”, which, to the best of my knowlede, encompases people of every race and heritage in the USA.

In essence, the damage done by liberals affects us all, not just blacks, but every American out there. His statement that even if the KKK, Arians etc…came to power, they could not do worse.

Then again, the (liberal) Demorcatic party was the Party of the deep south, no? The Confederacy cleaved to the Democrat Party and Slavery. The pigeon is back to roost, no?

Is there anything more vapid and irrelevant than to talk about national polls more than six months ahead of the election?

  7. js says:

Are you trying to bait someone DP?

  8. Tractatus says:

Then again, the (liberal) Demorcatic party was the Party of the deep south, no?

No. The conservative Democratic party of the South was, but after the party adopted racial integration as a plank, those conservatives went Republican–where they were welcomed with open arms and have remained (and were utilized by the GOP to great effect with the Southern Strategy). They were always conservative; they just switched parties. I know some of you guys intentionally like to fudge this point, but with you, js, I’m not so sure that you really don’t know any better.

(Cue Kahn’s boilerplate rant about “Dems are the real racists!”)

  9. MorrisMajor says:

Most of the old Dixie Democratic South is now GOP. Many Reagan Democrats were whites who fled the city and the urban blight associated with blacks.

I’ve worked in city schools, and as bad as they are, the real problem is not only are the students rude, lazy, and downright punkish, but there parents don’t care and just want them to graduate and if you write up and discipline their kids, you’ll catch hell from the parents and even sometimes their pastors about how we are oppressing their poor black babies. It’s always their babies; when the kid is 6′1′, 200 lbs with several assault raps by age 16. If you saw the outrageous behavior we had to deal with, you’d want a company of Marines on hand. The fact is a school is only as good as the community and parents around it. Since school districts are a political thing, the majority black parent districts want schools staffed by blacks and that graduate their crummy brats regardless of academic achievements, qualifications and behavior. Hey, I agree there is tons of PC liberal crap in schools that makes things harder and the teachers colleges are run by PC morons mostly, but the schools have to deal with not only threats of political and parental nature, but actual threats to our safety. The only real way to change it is enough decent people get on the school board and demand the schools start getting tough.

The only fair thing to do is completely eliminate public schools and the taxes that go with it and let people pay their own way. Then some mammy would think twice when her kid is reading at a 4th grade level at 17. The property taxes are killing the cities up here.

I believe it with every fiber of my being, Tractatus. All one needs to do is study history, apply timelines, and study behavior.

Maybe, maybe not. But, both parties are doing it, Diane. I could give you multiple threads from Kos, the DU, and the Huff Post with just a short search.

  13. js says:

Long long after the Civil War ended, the GOP maintains dominance in the South, as does freedom. Yet, you fail to acknowledge the hard truth about the DNC.

Needless to say Lincoln was a true Conservative, speaking from a human rights point of view, and the first true Republican.

I fail to be amused at the Democrats grasp at conservativism in spite of thier efforts for constant change, which lead the nation to the Great Depression. Many of the democrat liberal policies today are the cause of todays problems on the economy. If they would have stopped the over taxation of corporations, we would not have lost our industrial base to 3rd world counties. As it is, the tax code is a nightmare because it hides all the extra taxes and holes and loops and lies that government is collecting 10000 dollars in tax for every living man, woman and child alive in america today.

SO, what do they do? Fail to pass legislation that keeps tax decreases in effect, raising taxes, again, in an economy where millions and millions of lower middle class america are losing thier homes because of the crookery that sprouted up under Greenspan in the Real Estate sales, appraisal, and mortgage industries.

You ever seen the cost of a candy bar double or triple in just a few years? Nope, neither have I, but houses do. Ask Reid about the profits from real estate investments, he rightly knows, as do his Mafia associates….

I suppose reminding people that the /Republicans/ got the Civil Rights Act through the Senate, while Southern Democrats voted almost entirely as one against it, would yet again totally fail to penetrate certain peoples’ awareness?

    It is scary.

Once upon a time, there were white men in white sheets speaking like that.

Not anymore. Now, its black men, in black suits.

    Dont they ever learn?

See comment #8 and try again, Chuck. Incidentally, you stole Kahn’s thunder from him–that’s usually his line that you just spewed.

Leo: Thanks for confirming just how nuts you are. I held out hope that you were just being hyperbolic, but…sadly, no.

Let’s see. The Republican Party fought for and got the Civil Rights Act through congress. Then our liberal trolls claim the Conservative Democrats switched and joined the very group that pushed the legislation they so vehemently opposed?

    Hahaha.

    Nice try.

Your denial is not in Egypt

Your half witted replay is too little too late. Its pretty well been universally acknowledge that the Demoncrats were the Confederacy.

And all the BS you want to spout wont change that.

    Because its the truth.

  21. Almiranta says:

tract doesn’t even try to be right, doesn’t even care if he is right, he just loves to argue his ridiculous Lefty cant. The radical Left claims stupid and ridiculous things to try to hide the facts, such as the fact that it was the Dems who fought the Civil Rights bill, and the lemmings like tract just eat it all up with a spoon, and regurgitate it with glee.

And then they whine and whimper becuse they don’t get respect.

It is a favorite Lefty bleat that outcomes equal policies—therefore, if the Bush Adminstration, for example, fails to capture OBL, it was a policy to let him escape.

Let’s not fall into that simpleminded trap, and claim that it was a POLICY of the Dems to cripple, undermine, and destroy the black family. Those are just the outcomes of what may very well have been the sincere, if misguided, desire to “help” by offering handouts—which destroy the human spirit—and providing subsistence-level support which has morphed into multi-generational dependence on government.

Let’s not claim that the Dems DESIRED to destroy the black family by rewarding illegitimate births and punishing the presence of a man in the household. True, these are the results of the welfare society, but it would not be fair to claim that these were the callous goals of the majority of those who vote Democratic.

The welfare state has been a disaster, a massive failure which has eroded the human spirit of those trapped in it, which has created whole generations of people who are simultaneously dependent and resentful, and created a breeding ground for hostility and hatred.

We know that black people, if given equal opportunty, CAN succeed. We have Michelle and Barack Obama as examples of this, as well as Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice. Yet the first two are revered and the second two scorned, reviled, and attacked by those of their own race.

What is the difference? The first two subscribe to and support a hate-based resentment of white people, while the latter two simply see themselves as human beings, who interact with others as human beings.

I think all we need to do is look at how Condoleeza Rice, for example, is treated by much of the black community to see the true roots of the new racism of this country. Just listen to the vitriol heaped upon her by the Reverend Wright to see what a black person has to represent to be accepted by him and his followers and fellow believers.

Did a CONSERVATIVE come up with the snotty term “Oreo” to describe any black people? Much less the even nastier definition, which is “black on the outside and white in the middle”? Did a Republican decide that being “white” on either the outside or the inside was evil?

Has a conservative sneered at people for simply getting along in a variety of cultures, as those labeled “Uncle Toms” have been by the “black community”?

Come off it, you knee-jerk Lefties. You are trying to defend the indefensible, you are trying to deflect the very true and accurate appraisals of your own movement’s vile racist atitudes by claiming them to be the fruit of conservative philosophies, you are scrambling to try to dodge the fallout from your own positions.
