Boycott Absolut Vodka

If they want to play games like this, then I figure Stolichnaya will make it into the screwdrivers from now on:
The latest advertising campaign in Mexico from Swedish vodka maker Absolut promises to push all the right buttons south of the U.S. border, but it could ruffle a few feathers in El Norte.
The billboard and press campaign, created by advertising agency Teran\TBWA and now running in Mexico, is a colorful map depicting what the Americas might look like in an “Absolut” — i.e., perfect — world.
The U.S.-Mexico border lies where it was before the Mexican-American war of 1848 when California, as we now know it, was Mexican territory and known as Alta California.
Following the war, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo saw the Mexican territories of Alta California and Santa Fé de Nuevo México ceded to the United States to become modern-day California, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. (Texas actually split from Mexico several years earlier to form a breakaway republic, and was voluntarily annexed by the United States in 1846.)
The campaign taps into the national pride of Mexicans, according to Favio Ucedo, creative director of leading Latino advertising agency Grupo Gallegos in the U.S.
Ucedo, who is from Argentina, said: “Mexicans talk about how the Americans stole their land, so this is their way of reclaiming it. It’s very relevant and the Mexicans will love the idea.”
But he said that were the campaign to run in the United States, it might fall flat.
Well, it doesn’t have to run in the United States for it to fall flat - I imagine that this bit of information will spread rather rapidly around the United States…and while Absolut sales might increase in Mexico, we can hope that the drop off in US sales will cause Absolut - and other corporations - to think twice before offending.

Stoli is made by the company that just bought Absolut.

With General Order #1 not drinking Absolut should be easy. (then again, I can’t drink anyway so this is a moot point. I enjoy my stripes too much to risk having one taken away. Such is Life on a FOB…)
I’ll take a good single malt over vodka any day so when I get back to the States, not drinking Absolut should still be easy…

I guess this puts you in a real bind-eh JS?
No matter, you’re probably a blue label man.

I’m disgusted by the overall attitude of the Mexican radicals and those who either support them or ignore them.
Pook, thanks for the tip on Stoli. I have been in the mood for a Cosmo lately and kept forgetting to get to the liquor store, so this is timely.
Is the Absolut ad getting much press? If the Agenda Media are not going to make a big deal out of it, I doubt that losing a few sales is going to matter much. But I remember things like this, and Absolut will be off my shopping list permanently.

Hilarious to see how upset you are because of that ad. it’s a funny one, stop being childish.

When both Grant and Lee thought that the civil war was a punishment for the unjust Mexican war. I think it is pretty safe to say that absolut is doing the right thing, no matter how much we like the southern states.

The official Boycott has begun. FIRE Coalition, the largest, grass-roots organization fighting illegal immigration has launched http://www.AbsolutlyNot.com as part of the http://www.AmericaFirstBoycott.com project. The boycott represents all of the organizations in the coalition and their outrage at Absolut’s ad campaign. Today, they were featured on Neil Cavuto’s Your World on Fox News Channel

Apparantly the person in charge of this advertisment throught this would be a funny poke. Have they even been to both Mexico and the States??? Vastly different, Mexico is a shithole and there’s a good reason people flee to the USA for a “better future”. Besides the fact that Grey Goose is much better…I will make sure to never purchase anything with Absolute in it.

FIRE Coalition waterhose coalition whatever. They’s pulled the ads I thought it was funny but I have no investment in Big Sammy it could come or go and nothing in my current state of affairs would change really Absolut vodka is one of nearly 300 brands owned by Pernod Ricard.
So unless you are ready to give up Glenlivet, Malibu Rum, Jameson’s Irish, Wild Turkey, Chivas Regal, Ballentine’s and Seagram’s Gin the same money is going into the same pocket.
