According to ABC News, Condi is courting the Republican VP slot:
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the vice presidential nomination, Republican strategist Dan Senor said.
“Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite.
“There’s this ritual in Washington: The Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders — about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor said. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice — the first time a secretary of state has visited the Wednesday meeting.”
Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign.
My gut instinct is that there’s not much here. I don’t think you’ll see Condi on the ticket… but I would like to hear everyone thoughts on this.

very interesting. One thing I’ve wondered about Condi in recent years is the degree to which she controls state vs. other way around; I remember feeling pretty poor about James Baker after his tenure there … Condi is different, though … and she’d single handedly address the first woman and/or black candidate thing ;)
I’d love to see her on the ticket. I think she would do a great job, and would be a great follow up after 8 years of McCain.
But, I do not think it will happen. There are too many middle ground voters infused with BDS, so, she might actually be harmful to the ticket. Shame.
Of course, on the flip side, we could actually use the Dems own verbiage against them, seeing that she is Black and a woman.
I would love to see McCain pretend to pick Cheney as the VP, just to see the Left go level 10 insane. Shame no one spread that meme on April Fools day!
It would be very interesting. Very interesting indeed. I think she should go for it.
I doubt she’ll go for it, as much as I’d like to see it. Though policy wise I have no idea where she’d stand so I’m not sure how well she’d do on the campaign trail.
I’ve written here before I’d like to seee her do it. Hell, I’d like to see her be President. People I know at State and others I know who used to work there say she’s damn impressive in person. She had my vote after her 2nd Amendment story on Larry King.
[...] blatherWatch wrote an interesting post today on Vice President Condi Rice? Here’s a quick excerptJohn McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign. [...]
Without a doubt she is fully qualified to be VP and successor to the Presidency, if that proved necessary. Now, this may sound funny – but while she is clearly a brilliant person, does anyone have a real read on her “stump” persona? I’m not sure she’s got this – I’ve seen her look when asked a stupid question by a Senator, and it seemed to me that she had to check herself to prevent a crushing response…on the stump, and in the White House, you must suffer fools gladly, and we have no clue if Ms. Rice has this skill.
…and as an aside, a McCain/Rice ticket would make any ticket containing Hillary and/or Obama look silly…anyone want to tote up the respective experience level of McCain/Rice and Obama/Clinton?
:o)
Deleted – vulgarity.
I agree with Kahn. I wanted her to run for the nominee as well. She’s extremely bright, articulate, and knows most of the heads of state already.
But sadly, William is right. A McCain/Rice ticket would make the leftys’ heads explode from BDS overload.
Look at Gaijen. His head is already imploding and it hasn’t even happened yet.
Mark, On issues – I know one for sure. In the Larry King interview, he asked her about the Second Amendment. She responded by telling him the story of the time the Klan (or a similar group) was on its way to burn down her neighborhood. She sais that her father and other men from the neighborhood went with their guns to the entrance to stop it. She said that government and police may not always be there to help you,l and that we should be careful to not give up such an important right.
Larry King was speechless.
It’s also important to note that her Sunday school was blown up and three little girls were killed. Those girls were classmates and friends of Ms. Rice. She actually has better race struggle bona fides than Obama and many of the race hatred flim flam artists operating today. It’s also important to note that the Klan WAS the (Democrat controlled) Police where she grew up.
Kahn,
My worry is that if asked an idiot question, she might point out that the question is idiotic…this might not look good on TV. Its a shame, but that is unfortunately the way things work these days – for a large number, visual impressions are everything.
I would love to see her on the ticket. As for letting someone know that they have just asked a really stupid (or even marginally stupid) question – maybe it is about time that happened. I believe raising the standards would be good. Or do we want more “Dateline” stories about Brittany Spears?
I am surprised that you deleted me. There were many other times when I was sure I was going to be deleted and never have been to my knowlege. If I posted something vuglar I apologize, but I thought was one of my more mundane posts.
There’s a free joke in there if anyone wants to run with it.
“My worry is that if asked an idiot question, she might point out that the question is idiotic…”
I wish politicians would point out stupid questions and we could have national dialogue of substance instead of “who would you rather have a beer with?” etc questions.
Peace, Gaijin
Ha ha. Very funny.
It’ll be Romney. Google “condi rice bean” to find out why they won’t pick her for VP.
I doubt Condi Rice wants to be VP. She is a remarkable woman and would be a great asset to Senator McCain. God only knows he will need all the help he can get.
As for stupid questions; I would love to see politicians not only point them out, but also the stupid people who ask them. I miss the good old days of quality journalism. The fluff media we have today is like digesting an episode of As The World Turns.
Regarding Condi as VP: No, no, no!
She’s been far too cozy with the Palestinians, and pushes Palestinian statehood at the cost of Israeli security.
In these matters she’s shown she has no business being Secretary of State, let alone any more influential position, let alone next in line to the Presidency!
Anyone who even utters the notion of Palestinian statehood while the Palestinians are firing rockets into Israel, is just bat-guano crazy.
Condi talks often about the imperative of Palestinian statehood; as a result, she should not be taken seriously … either as a Secretary of State, or as a credible pick for any other position of influence.
Please, Please, Please Senator Mccain pick Condi to be your veep! Pleeease!
It would not be a surprise if the Republicans out of desperation selected the nice but incompetent Condi.
We all remember what the King of Capitalism, Donald Trump, had to say about Condi. Love him or hate him but the Donald can sniff out a phony a mile away.
“I see Condoleezza Rice — she goes on a plane, she gets off a plane, she waves, she goes there to meet some dictator,” Trump said. “They talk, she leaves, she waves, the plane takes off. Nothing happens, it’s a joke, nothing ever happens. I think she’s a very nice woman, but I don’t want a nice woman. I want someone that’s not necessarily nice.”
Diane proves my point.
markondi:
you worry about condi’s response to idiotic reporter questions
interestingly enough
the earthlings currently in charge
have done some idiotic things this past 8 yrs
even you have said that…..
so the spock posse must ask?
do you think she points out those idiocies ?
sorry…kind of inane question
but we’re of that ilk today
condi yes!
but first, everyone vote 4 hill.
Condi certainly has all that “experience” you people are looking for. Of course, I guess we’d want to look at her judgment on things as well. Specifically the Iraq War.
The source is here.
So by all means. Let’s put her up there in front of an American public where the majority feel Iraq was a mistake.
would be a reason to vote for Mccain. Do not have one yet.
Vice President Rice? You want to generate some real passion and dollars for the Republican ticket? That would do it. Maybe McCain is truly bold enough to make some history and better his chances in November.
[...] Blogs for Victory, “I don’t think you’ll see Condi on the ticket…” [...]
Looks like Condi is denying she ever spoke to McCain about the VP position.
At least now the liberals can piece their heads back together again.
At least now the liberals can piece their heads back together again
k4v, see my post #24. Condi for Veep would have been a great move….. for the Dems. A large majority feel the war was a mistake. McCain is saying the war was just, but it was bungled.
Condi being a chief pusher of the war, would just mean that McCain feels he should reward one of those that bungled the war.
Condi will not be the Veep for Gramps.
“At least now the liberals can piece their heads back together again.”
Why would we want that?
And, is that even possible for a liberal too do? ;)
Teach: There are a few on this blog who will have some major difficulties!
Joe: Do you think it’s nice to call McCain Gramps? My dad is older than John and still skis (of course, not as fast down the runs as he used to!).
I think McCain should/will choose a governor … which one? I don’t know.
Hey, ma father is as old as McCain and he walks 4 miles a day. He laughs at calling him Gramps. Hey… he just looks like a grandfather. That’s not really a bad thing.
I think he picks a Gov as well.
Although he could pick John Warner to make himself look younger!
Again… just kidding.
LOL! I hope he doesn’t pick Warner!
Well, this would seem to make her a non-starter:
Choosing Secretary Rice as a Vice-Presidential candidate would hardly work with the parts of the GOP who already aren’t terribly enamored of Senator McCain unless she was willing to flip-flop on abortion as he has on so many issues.
I guess DP didn’t get the memo.
The fact is, the best choice for President is still Bush. I think that there will be another terror attack, and if it is, we will have to cancel elections and put all the liberal traiters and muslims in camps. So, there would be some good benefits.
Gary,
After reading that comment and you comments on a couple of other threads, I am pretty convinced you are using sarcasm.
At least I certainly hope you are using sarcasm.
