A Renege or a Flip-Flop?
April 10th, 2008 at 06:24pm Matt Margolis
What would you call Obama’s broken pledge that if his general election opponent accepted public financing for his campaign that he would as well.
UPDATE, by Mark Noonan: A nightmare for Democrats, according to Marist - McCain leads Obama and only barely trails Hillary in New York. Polls, as I endlessly point out, are weak reeds, especially this far out from the actual voting…but such polls (and there are a lot of them these days showing this sort of thing) have to have hearts trembling with fear over at the DNC, and explain why Dean wants this whole thing wrapped up by June 1st.
UPDATE, by Matt Margolis: I think it is quite clear from the attacks by the DNC against McCain that the Democrats are afraid of him. Now Dean is claiming people are concerned about McCain’s age.

He’s just a liar.

A new type of politician that will hold his word and not stoop to dirty politics indeed.
4. felix the cat | April 10th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
So now you are complaining that the public is being saved money??? You are finding fault with a candidate who has generated so much enthusiasim that his supporters are literally throwing money at him and as a result he can bypass public financing??? And just to try to prove that he is duplicitious?
Why don’t you point out his height or weight as an example of his being an unqualified candidiate who; if elected will turn our great nation into a house of horrors.

I think his 1.3 million individual donors is sort of public financing. But is it any wonder a politician changes his mind when the situation changes? No. Ask John McCain about waterboarding and the CIA, that is a more signifcant flip flop.

Forget the White House. It’s a race for the Waffle House.
“Whatever it takes” politics have arrived in our “you’re on your own” country.
Originally Obama was not my first, second or even fifth choice. But since he’s the closest thing to a progressive left in the race, he’s got my vote.
My prediction for my grandkids is this: Fifty years from now, Obama will be the next face on Rushmore, for both his accomplishments while in office and to complete the narrative provided by Lincoln’s presence there.
Let the insults begin!
7. SEW | April 10th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
“Obama will be the next face on Rushmore”
Along with Francois, Dukakis, McGovern and Gore. Better known as grafetti, and a federal offense.

SEW: That was hilarious!!
9. Rich | April 10th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
“for both his accomplishments while in office ”
What has he accomplished so far in office?
10. Matt Margolis | April 10th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
“progressive?” you mean liberal.
11. SEW | April 10th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Both? Must be Hope and Change? Or Renege and Flip-Flop? Or Rezko and Wright?
12. William Teach | April 10th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Rich, if Obama wins, 2 accomplishments for 4 years would be about his style.
As far as if it is a renege or a flip flop, really, it is just business as usual as for a Democrat
Gotta love the line of Dem presidential contenders. Carter, worst president ever. So bad, they came up with the “misery index.” Mondale. Dukakis. Clinton. Gore. Kerry. Waffles. And now Empty Suit Obama. Really sad for a party that once had JFK, FDR, Truman, and so many other old style dems, who, we might disagree with on domestic issues, but, at least they had cajones when it came to protecting the USA.

SEW: You’re on a roll. How about “present” and “not present”?
14. SEW | April 10th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Just kidding. The answer is……drum roll……
CUT and RUN

“progressive?” you mean liberal.
Yes. Yes I do. Liberal. Capital “L”. The other “L” word. “Liberal” as in freeman. Liberal as in slave no more. Liberal as in “broad minded.” Liberal as in “generous.”
Synonyms: liberal, bounteous, bountiful, freehanded, generous, handsome, munificent, openhanded
These adjectives mean willing or marked by a willingness to give unstintingly: a liberal backer of the arts; a bounteous feast; bountiful compliments; a freehanded host; a generous donation; a handsome offer; a munificent gift; fond and openhanded grandparents. See Also Synonyms at broad-minded.
Antonym: stingy

congressive - but Republicans freed the slaves, joined with northern Democrats to pass the civil rights laws, and consistently give more to charity than Democrats. By your definitions, WE are the “liberal” party.
The Democrat Party is the party that fosters race and gender envy and hatred, wants to pull the nation as far into socialism as possible, wants to disarm the populace while at the same time stifling opposition speech, wants to return to an isolationist era by “renegotiating” proven trade treaties and withdrawing our military influence to Kansas.
Congressive, do you live in a heavily liberal area? Just asking. You know, I grew up in EXTREMELY liberal Northampton, MA. But I learned to look at the issues and evaluate facts for myself. I saw my nuns get arrested for blocking the gates to Westover and I argued with John Kerry about Viet Nam Vets against the war. You CAN think for yourself you know.

congressive,
If only liberals were like that - the last liberal was G K Chesterton, an orthodox Catholic. Since his passing, liberalism has fallen upon extremely hard times…becoming quasi-fascist in modern times.

Why don’t you point out his height or weight as an example of his being an unqualified candidiate who; if elected will turn our great nation into a house of horrors.
It’s not his height or weight, pussycat–it’s his ears!!! Just ask Maureen Dowd.
C’mon, folks, wake up. Earbama’s a phony, no different than Bosnia Hill, who was named after Sir Edmund, tried to join the Army or Marines, wanted to be an astronaut, and wanted to be an Olympian. What you have are a liah, and a messiah, who both take plenty of public money already.

Disclaimer: I am not a McCain supporter, but I will take a true war hero over two Marxists any day of the week.
btw, when I say “true war hero,” I am referring to McCain, not Spitball Kerry, a phony soldier…

For Obama, his word is his bond…
Unless he gets more cash in his pocket, then he’ll change his mind.
Typical Chicago politician.
21. js | April 11th, 2008 at 8:08 am
Bama is a farse.
while he tells folks change, he has collect more than half his money from power brokers, lawyers and billionairs that are part of the problem in government
he isnt looking for a solution, just 2 things will satisfy him, decieve america and greed
in the end, obama is nothing more than a liar and a thief
22. Diane Tomlinson | April 11th, 2008 at 8:15 am
The longer the Democratic primary process goes on the better it will be for who ever the Democratic Party nominee is. This is called hide in plain sight getting the hood blown off by another Democrat havinf the reverend Wright thing take place in the Spring instead of say October are just more and more gifts to the Democratic Party. The GOP is in the same spot that the Democrats were in back in 1980 but the Democrats were wrong in thinking that after four years of Reagan the moderates would come running back. After eight years of Bush “non conservatism” those in the center are looking for nothing more than change.
23. js | April 11th, 2008 at 8:29 am
change?
wasnt that echo’ed in 06 by the Democrats who gained power in both houses?
the only change that america got was more corruption and more taxes and less rights and less protection
obama was a part of that movement…he is echo’ing the same tenor in his current campain
fooled once, shame on you…..there isnt going to be a second time
24. Diane Tomlinson | April 11th, 2008 at 8:33 am
The change they got js took the power of majority away from the GOP to make the floor rules. You see that’s the real power. The Democrats know they couldn’t end the war they just needed to have a solid base to build upon to create an executive proof majority in 2008 and a supermajority in both houses as the economy improves in Q4 2010.
25. js | April 11th, 2008 at 8:38 am
real power doesnt come on the coat tails of lies worn by liars, you need to wake up

I think it is quite clear from the attacks by the DNC against McCain that the Democrats are afraid of him.
Which means that you are pants-pissingly terrified of Obama, given that he’s your most popular topic of discussion/subject of attack.
Good job scrubbing away references to McCain’s many, many flip-fops. Too much truth and honesty can certainly be damaging to you folks.
30. William Teach | April 11th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Ah, so the goal posts have been changed yet again. The Dems promised to end the war if they won in 2006, along with stopping corrupt practices. They failed at both.
31. WhatGives? | April 11th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Careful Tractatus, you will be deleted if you reference McCain flip flopping.
I see William Teach is right on topic though. LOL!

I sure thought the topic was flip-flops.
Mark, Teach’s #30 comment is really off topic. The topic is Obama, remember? Not the war and all Dems.

Which is in response to Diane’s post. Pay attention, Joe.

how about obama’s just keeping mccain and all the other repubs scared — they just don’t know what he’s going to do — oh my!
