Obama Supporters Play the Race Card

April 26th, 2008 at 02:30pm Mark Noonan

Never thought I’d say that I agree with Bill Clinton, but Obama supporters do seem to be playing the race card in an attempt to bring the nomination process to an end:

Clinton’s solid win in the Pennsylvania primary exposed a quandary for the party. Her backers may be convinced that only she can win the white, working-class voters that the Democratic nominee will need in the general election, but many African American leaders say a Clinton nomination — handed to her by superdelegates — would result in a disastrous breach with black voters.

“If this party is perceived by people as having gone into a back room somewhere and brokered a nominee, that would not be good for our party,” House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (S.C.), the highest ranking African American in Congress, warned yesterday. “I’m telling you, if this continues on its current course, [the damage] is going to be irreparable.”

That fear, plus a more general sense that Clinton’s only route to victory would be through tearing down her opponent, has led even some black Democrats who are officially neutral in the race, such as Clyburn, to speak out.”If you have any, any kind of loyalty to the Democratic Party, perhaps you need to rethink your strategy and bow out gracefully in order to save this party from a disastrous end in November,” Rep. William Lacy Clay (Mo.), an African American Obama supporter, said in an appeal to Clinton.

In other words: “Back out, Hillary, ’cause the loyalty of black voters to the Democratic party is dependent upon Obama securing the nomination.” I get the impression that, certainly among the black Democratic leadership, they feel it is “their turn” to run the show - 40 years of rock-solid support for the Democratic party, and the bill has now come due. Keep in mind that “disasterous end” has two meanings - a loss of the White House, as well as a possibility of black voters ceasing to be so loyal to the Democratic party. Too bad that support for the Democratic party is not based on shared American values - its all about getting a piece of the pie and ensuring that the swag is divvied up equitably; a little bit of concern about America over the past 40 years, and Democrats wouldn’t be in this mess.

Hey, Mark. I think everyone gets it. You imagine that Democrats are the cause of everything bad, after all they’re not even really Americans since they don’t have “shared American values”, and Republicans are the cause of everything good. It’s a simplistic and propagandistic point of view that allows you to vent your animus at a nice cardboard cutout enemy (can’t be a “movement conservative” without having enemies lurking everywhere), but I feel confident anyone reading here knows that it’s the story line at Blogs For Victo(r)y.

You know, sometimes Mark you are so right on - just in a way the scares the hell out of people when they are forced to examine their positions. Keep changing the subject Diana, why didn’t you throw in the evil Karl Rove, or Bush Lied, etc. those are the most effective ways to turn the topic back onto the evils of the Republican Party.

about the only thing the democrats are good at is raising taxes and wasting money…other peoples money…money that belongs to taxpayers…they also are responsible for the failure of the housing industy by ignoring the underlying problems…and they cause stars to fall, rivers to dry up, and disease and pestilence to emerge from ancient history up until now…and the democrats were the cause of the nazis’ and soviets…and they sunk the titanic…there isnt much good that comes from democrates…certainly the name they go by aludes to democracy, however, they push socialism and government power over the people of these united states…more like communism than freedom, and a police state to replace our liberty…and the flag of the atheist to staunch the belief in God….and they take our children to public schools to indoctrinate them with lies about evolution and deviant sexual behavior to diminish the light of liberty…no…democrats are long gone from america….the anti communist movement of the 50s failed, and they were overcome by socialists and commies….

    Diana,

You side is what it is, and there is no shared sense of American values in the Democratic party - its all about who gets what via government spending…we GOPers are about shared American values, and thus for politicians like Steele and Jindal, we don’t give a tupenny damn about their skin color, but only about the fact that they want to fight for what is right.

    Doug,

The fear on the Democratic side is palpable these days - they were so sure that they had it all in the bag…and now they’re wondering if they can even keep unified for the fall campaign…

Deleted - off topic. Ed Note: Really, the thread is about Obama and racial politics. This is a very interesting subject to discuss, and you should be able to come up with an on-topic comment.

(Video) The Case Against Obama - Primetimepolitics.com

This video is just devastating against Obama! Between minutes 6:30-11:40, the video discusses Black Liberation Theology. Very informative. Very disturbing. According to the video, Pope John Paul II condemned Black Liberation Theology as a humanistic doctrine.

    AGAIN…….

    IN THE BEGINNING…..

    Trinity United Church of Christ
    About Us
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:
    1. Commitment to God
    2. Commitment to the Black Community
    3. Commitment to the Black Family
    4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
    5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
    6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
    7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
    8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”
    9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
    10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
    11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
    12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

I guess its a bit stiff for the opposition in light of the truth to come out and defend Barak Hussein Obama…..the radicalizing of black america by islam is “seriously” dangerous….it really has gone on too far.

any man who wants to be president should love this country…barak hussein obama really doesnt…he wants to change it, to destroy it from within…beware liberals…

Libs can’t admit it, but they are scared to NOT vote against Obama.

His razor-thin resume; his poor debate performance (and subsequent running away from them); his past associations with radical and extremist elements; his insulting a large number of voters (those bitter, gun-toting, religious racists that Obama’s elistist SF supporters detest); his enlistment of anti-semites as senior policy advisors; these would make a normal person reject such a candidate.

But Dems are afraid that they would anger their largest block of supporters, the black vote. Obama will get the nomination even if he royally screws up between now and the Denver convention.

we GOPers are about shared American values

Which is why you’re all about meaningless wedge issues and pointing out how some people (gays, for example) must be held as lesser Americans. Oops, wait…that, among other things, disproves your silly little notion.
