GOP Reality - and Gut - Check

Via John Podhoretz over at Commentary:
It is important for conservatives and Republicans, who have comforted themselves with the thought that Obama cannot possibly win because no one as far to the Left as he is can win the presidency in the United States, to understand the nature of the challenge he poses. Think of it this way. In 1972, George McGovern, on Election Day, received 29 million votes — fewer than Obama’s and Hillary’s combined vote totals in the Democratic primary in 2008.
Think of it this way as well, if you want to delude yourself that a left-liberal can’t win. In 2004, John Kerry, the most liberal member of the Senate and nobody’s idea of a good candidate, received 59 million votes. He bettered Al Gore’s 2000 vote total by 17 percent. He only lost because George Bush generated 62 million votes, the greatest number in American history. Who received the second greatest number of votes in American history? John Kerry.
A left-liberal can win, and will win, unless he is defeated by his rival. Barack Obama will not defeat himself. He’s already too strong a candidate for that to be a possibility.
If - as we pretty much all expect - Obama is the Democratic nominee, then it is time for us to just get ready for it: forget polls; forget fundraising totals…forget everything you ever thought about politics. Its a whole new game, and we have to play as if we’re down 14 points at the start of the 4th quarter. We will have to fight and fight and fight - never quit, never surrender a single point. The future of America is at stake - we’ll either elect a patriot who will try to do what is right, or we’ll elect the vapid scion of a ragged liberalism which is long bereft of any sense of honor or adherence to any basic human decency. To put it in stark terms, we fight for the right to worship God as we see fit; they fight to insist that pornography is as vital as the Federalist Papers in the grand scheme of liberty.
And they are figting to take no prisoners - if you read this article over at Reason you’ll see that the unions, who are pouring $360 million into the quest for Democratic victory, are eagerly awaiting their expected victory…and the resultant legislation which will take away the precious right to vote from workers, forcing them into the clutches of corrupt unions which are really no more than slush funds for union bosses, and fundraising adjuncts for the DNC. If they win, they will nationalise health care; they will allow the trial lawyers to run wild; they will tax the most productive; they will lure more and more of the poor on to government dependency - turning citizens into parasites; they will allow the war against religion to continue; they will, eventually, force through federally funded abortion on demand, gay marriage and the complete abrogation of the rights of parents to instruct their children unfettered in their faith. Their pledge to surrender in the War on Terrorism is just the tip of the liberal arrow.
Do you want this? Then sit on your hands. Complain that McCain isn’t conservative “enough”. Figure that a loss will eventually work to conservatism’s advantage…and say good bye to all you love about our nation. If you don’t want this - then get out and fight. Donate to McCain. Donate to the RNC. Donate to your local candidates and parties. Volunteer for State and national election work. Fight and fight and fight; and know that right makes might. If we do our duty over the next six months, we’ll all wake up pleased on November 5th.

bagni,
Always, always, always - the liberal is wrong, because liberalism is built upon a lie, and thus can only sustain itself by a continuing series of lies. McCain isn’t perfect. President Bush isn’t perfect. Heck, even Ronaldus Magnus wasn’t perfect…but as all three of them come out of the conservative, Judeo-Christian tradition, they will still always do far more right than any liberal is capable of as long as said liberal pursues liberal policies.
Its this difference - Perhaps President Bush was wrong in going into Iraq in March of 2003, as opposed to going in in August of 2002, or waiting until March of 2004…but a liberal would have just surrendered to Saddam’s combination of threats and blandishments…conservatives make mistakes from time to time, liberals are inherently wrong all of the time…if there is that oddity of a liberal getting it rights, its of the nature of a busted clock being right twice a day.

Republicans Lose in Louisiana Stronghold
By SUSAN DAVIS
May 5, 2008;
Republicans lost a long-held House seat Saturday after trying to bring down the Democratic candidate by aligning him with Barack Obama.
Don Cazayoux defeated Woody Jenkins to represent Louisiana’s Sixth District, a seat held by Republicans for decades, boosting Democrats’ optimism heading in to the fall elections.

“Always, always, always - the liberal is wrong, because liberalism is built upon a lie,”
You spout this sentence while, conservative leader Rush Limbaugh touts the success of operation chaos. An operation based on deception, requesting conservatives vote in Democratic primaries only for the purpose of creating mischief. A vote they do not believe in, but won and maintained by the lives of millions of veterans past and present.
My dad fought and was wounded in WWII. I could never look him in the eye if I admitted I threw away my vote. Mark, I say it is you and your conservative movement that is living the lie.

Throwing away a vote is not voting or having your vote not counted. If someone chhoses to vote strategically, what does it matter? People vote for all kinds of reasons, many are stupid and selfish, many are not. It is not your job to decide. If you want to talkl about the sanctity of the vote, what do you feel about the millions in Michigan and Florida that are being disenfranchised by your party? P.S. South Carolina broke the rules and moved their race up. Guess what, they still counted.

insideout,
Don’t party too soon. That district was held by Democrats for 100 years before 1975.
Plus, Woody Jenkins is hardly a worthy opponent. That district has received many people who have relocated from New Orleans after Katrina. Most of those individuals are die hard Democrats.
So the “traditional Republican” district is not the same as it used to be.
Desperate for victory, aren’t you? Liberal fantasy vs. Reality.

Ok I will give you that one, but what is up with Republican Congressman Fossella from Staten Island. First a drunk driving arrest in Virginia on May 1, 2008 Then his confession on May 8, 2008 that he had fathered a (now) three-year-old child out of wedlock. Do you think this could seriously jeopardize Fossella’s bid for re-election?

A) Who cares, it’s his private life! wow, where have I heard that before?
B) Kennedy gets pulled over drunk, high or what-ever - nobody cares.

Did you even bother to read the the list of evils Mark bestowed upon Democrats? When in fact we must keep our children from the many politicians in the conservative movement who hide under the “family value cloak”.

insideout,
What Rush is doing is a bit of hardball politics - but the lie liberalism is based upon is the falsehood that mankind is perfectable. If you believe this, then you are a liberal - and thus you are going to be wrong about everything. If you don’t believe that, you are a conservative, and thus have a fair shot at getting it right most of the time.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it is my belief this con Chickenhawk is encouraging his ditto heads to squander the most basic right in a democracy; a right many died defending in past wars. If conservatives can give up such a basic right at the whims of a radio host orator, these are truly dangerous times
