A Question From the Audience
May 9th, 2008 at 12:04pm Mark Noonan
Actually, from my father - George Noonan.
Dad wants to know if anyone out there thinks that Hillary, denied the Democratic nomination, will opt to run as a Third Party candidate?
If so, what would be the result?

???? It’s pretty much too late to get on the ballots as a third party candidate…at least it will be if she waits until the end of the month, which she will wait for if she still wants the Dem. nomination.
I’m guessing the Green party still has major party status in enough states so that they are automatically on the November ballot, in that case if they nominate her then she could split the Democratic vote in those few states.
However, as it is, I think the deadline for her to get on the ballot as a non-major party candidate is pretty much past in most significant states.

No. I would love to see it however. The Dems are deserving of that fate. The result would be a McCain landslide, just as Willie would have lost big time without the major help of Ross Perot.

Gotta agree with no. She’s a party and machine person.
Here’s one back… would Obama?

No, and with due respect to your father it is actually a ridiculous question. Except for that piss ant Nader total focus is on the prevention of a Bush third term. In case you haven’t noticed conservative policy has placed our country in deep trouble.

eastside,
We haven’t been governed by conservative policies and the country is not in deep trouble. And the “third term” comment is ludicrous and nothing more than a desperate attempt to run against Bush, which is all liberals know how to do.

Oh and my answer on the question would be no. But I never put anything past the Clintons when trying to predict their behaviour.

With all the bad mouthing they have done to each other, could you see them trying to make nice? It would be good for McCain though.

My dad is pretty sold on the idea - I don’t think it will happen. But lets consider some things.
Hillary Clinton has a major ambition to be President, and she is almost certain not to get the nomination in 2008. If Obama wins the White House in November, then Hillary is barred from running until 2016 (even Obama proves to be - as I expect he would be - even worse than Carter, it would be political suicide to go up against your party’s President) - by 2016, Hillary will be pushing 70, and will be very much yesterday’s news. She has 2008, or 2012…’08 is almost entirely off the table, ‘12 will be off the table if Obama wins in November. Its either win in ‘08, or win in ‘12, or forget about it forever.
Hillay can do some things:
1. She can continue to strongly battle it out for the Democratic nomination in 2008; a nearly impossible task, and one which risks alienating a substantial portion of the very voters she would need - as a Democrat - to win the White House in November.
2. She can take a look at recent polling and bet that Obama, become the nominee, will go down to flaming defeat in November. By gracefullhy exiting the race soon and loyally stumping for Obama, she’ll put herself in a nearly impregnable position to secure the Democratic nomination in 2012. The downside, of course, would be Obama winning in ‘08.
3. She can decide to go third party - not to win it outright (an impossible task) but merely to deny Obama 270 electoral votes and throw the election to the House, where a combination of GOPers determined to prevent Obama and a small number of moderate Democrats determined to not be connected to a President Obama could turn to her as the compromise candidate - she then goes on to build a Christian Democrat party to be her vehicle for re-election in 2012; ditching those parts of the left which (a) despise her and (b) are a damned millstone ’round the neck of anyone non-conservative trying to win the White House.

Hillary can insist on being VP in exchange for ending the battle and unifying the party. With that, she would become POTUS. BHO just needs to be ‘Fostered’.

LaMano, as I read somewhere else– the big question to ask is would she wait until after the inauguration to “Foster” him?
I can’t see her doing a third party–this is her destiny. I see her wrestling the nod at the convention and splitting the party on her McGovern run for the prize. If not, Sen. Obama will experience the same. He can’t pull the required states for the electoral college. Can’t really stand Sen. McCain either after his 2nd flip-flop on immigration.
Starting to think that Sen. Obama might be the less dangerous butthead for the job. With his way left policies and empty suit performance–I don’t think he can do anything more dangerous than ask for more than two sides with dinner in the WH.

WOW
Good question!
Most of the libtards who haunt here forget ross perot handed the election to B!@# job bill on a silver platter.
The klintons have always practiced a scorched earth policy.
The idea, if I cant get the nomination, ill deny him the presidency sure sounds klintonesque.
Stay posted!
