Global Warming Update
May 10th, 2008 at 12:01am Mark Noonan
From NOAA:
The average temperature in April 2008 was 51.0 F. This was -1.0 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 29th coolest April in 114 years.
We are all aware, aren’t we, that there hasn’t been any increase in global mean temperatures since 1998, right?

Except that 2007 was tied as Earth’s second-warmest Year.
And that the eight warmest years in the GISS record have all occurred since 1998, and the 14 warmest years in the record have all occurred since 1990.

bongoman,
But the models predict that each year will, on average, be hotter than the year before…if, that is, the anthropogenic global warming theory is worth more than a pitcher of warm spit.

Mark,
But the models predict that each year will, on average, be hotter than the year before?if, that is, the anthropogenic global warming theory is worth more than a pitcher of warm spit.
No they don’t. Where did you get that idea?
Presumably you are talking about climate models. They predict trends. Within a trend there can be periods of variability, but over the long term, those climate models have been quite accurate in predicting climate change.
Take a look at the graph at
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2008/01/uncertainty-noise-and-the-art-of-model-data-comparison/
The blue lines are short term (8 year) projections. The red line is measured global mean record. Now, which direction is the red line going?

Lets see,
NOAA is controlled by the anti-global warming george administration…
Of course they would say anything the george administration wanted them to say, In my opinion.
next.

We on the left know that there was never a problem with global warming; we are just messing with you republickuns.
Al Gore is getting some payback for a stolen election and who does he want to mess with most? You got it, morons in SUV’s and F-150’s.
Al knew that $126.00 a barrel oil would slow consumption and $200.00 a barrel oil will slow it even more.
We asked you NASCAR morons to stop buying SUV’s and you said no. Well all-righty-then, pay $150.00, $200.00, or even $300.00 to fill-up your gas tank, see what we care.
Al asked you right-wing-whack-jobs to buy energy efficient light bulbs and you said no thanks, so he will take away your incandescent light bulbs forever.
The sooner you conservatives start doing what Al tells you to do, the better off you’ll be.
George Bush is getting ready to leave Washington forever, and ride off into the Texas sunset. But Al Gore has enslaved you with Green Policies that you will comply with forever.
Suckers.

And the scientific proof (NOT consensus) is showing what? From what I keep reading, that global warming as a theory is getting questioned more and more because there is little or no backup data for it. At least, anthropogenic global warming.

None of this really matters at all does it? You short lives are wasting your time arguing about climate change! Bah! 6 billion humans cannot affect the climate of Terra without using massive amounts of radiation poured into the upper atmosphere. What you are really arguing about is the right to a Western level of comfort. The Right Wing thinks that it is their right to drive huge cars and not go broke filling their tanks when the Left Wing feels that the environment is to be protected. I think you can have both in the coming decades as breakthroughs in the technology of waste disposal catches up with battery technology.
Until then those NASCAR morons will have to do like everyone outside the West and pay a premium for the lifestyle they choose to lead.

What an ass ce,e,d.s.v.j. Yes, you should be in lower case.
IMHO, and as an experiment for the rest of you all, add up the entire impact of everything man has produced in the entire lifetime from the first fire through combustion engines through the bombs that hit Japan. Everything man has created and used plus those stockpiles of weapons all of mankind has stockpiled.
Then compare that to a volcanic release like Mt. St. Helens. If you do this honestly, you will realize that the human population of the earth is nothing more than a flea on a pimple on the ass of Terra Firma. We are insignificant. Sail the Southern Cross sometime if you need another example.
BTW, for those “NASCAR morons” (of which I am one) — it comes to less than one-tenth of one percent. Chew on that you self-important elitist.

Magnum,
the “george” administration has acknowledged the possibility of global warming, so your post is just more BDS drivel. What a shock.
Many Japanese scientists are now predicting a 10 year cooling period. I can’t wait to hear the liberals response to this.
I am always amused by the knee jerk defense of the global warming myth by our resident lemmings.

But, I caught a cold last month. How could that have happened if there’s global warming?
It must be a hoax.

NASCAR, the terrorists favorite sport…why not just send OBL an check directly?
If Bush and McCain both say GW is a problem…who am I to ever disagree with them?

THE LATEST GLOBAL WARMING TAX
When you want to save the planet from a non-existent crisis … taxes and wealth redistribution seems like the way to go. In Estonia, farmers will now be taxed for the methane emissions produced by their cattle. Cattle produce the largest amounts of methane gas through belching and flatulence … this accounts for 15-25% of overall gas emissions. One cow has the ability to produce an average of about 350 liters of methane and 1,500 liters of carbon dioxide each and every single day.
Apparently this isn’t the first country to propose taxes along these lines. New Zealand also proposed a flatulence tax because New Zealand cattle are responsible for 90% of the country’s methane emissions.
What a money making scam!
