Sounds like Obama is the one losing his bearings.
And before our friends on the left attempt to explain what Obama “meant,” I think it’s obvious that if President Bush ever made the same comment, the same people who are about to defend Obama would mercilessly attack Bush.

Another Dem nominee, another lightweight.
Kind of funny…it seems he is adding the states that he visited more than once to the tally.
I am concerned that senility is setting in with Obama and that he may take orders from Trinity Church if elected.
Oh this is fun….
Obama went to 57 states, McCain thinks Czechoslovakia still exists. Both errors but really just petty bullsh*t that both sides like to point out. I think though there will be plenty of real issues to dissect in the near future.
Would some of those 57 be in Mexico, maybe? Si, se puede!
Obama went to 57 states, McCain thinks Czechoslovakia still exists.
But at least McCain is not running for the presidency of either the Czech Republic or Slovakia.
Come to think of it, when McCain was captured after being shot down, East and West Pakistan were parts of a single country. When he was released, Pakistan only included the former “West” part, and the “East” had become the separate country of Bangla Desh.
Well, there are roughly 57 political entities which send delegate to the Democratic National Convention. The 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico make 52. Then there’s Guam, American Samoa and the Virgin Islands. That makes 55. There is a 56th delegation for Democrats Abroad.
Obama has organizations in all 55 states and territories but he hasn’t visited them all.
Fairly or unfairly, no one has used this statement to demonstarte that Obama is a moron. This is because he is clearly NOT a moron. If Bush II had said this, people would have added this to the long list of seemingly moronic statements he has made. The reason people collect these lists is partially because of liberal bias… but mostly because Bush II makes a lot of verbal gaffes… and unlike Obama he doesn’t make up for his gaffes with counteracting moments of brilliance.
moments of brilliance? Are you serious? The ability to read a script (or a speech) is not brilliance. I think it’s obvious from the debates that he’s not nearly as good an orator without a teleprompter.
Beings that I’m from the white section of West Virginia (as opposed to those areas we would just assume be another state) I can understand how he and the media will play this up as a ‘two Americas’ thing. After all President-elect Obama won the 53rd state just last week – you know Southeast Pennsylvania. Now when them tornadoes whip through my Appalachian hometown this weekend he can come out and give a speech pitying the bitter white working class folks in our 56th state who will have lost loved ones (what’s the difference between 10,000 and 12, either way it shows that Bush’s tax breaks on the big oil companies caused them tornadoes.)
Matt-
If it takes nothing to read a teleprompter who else gives speeches like Obama? Also, have you read either of his books? He is an excellent writer. You can disagree with his positions but you can not deny his ability to craft his argument. Also, have you read his is “more perfect union speech”? Again, you may disagree with it but it is a very persuasive speech. He is supposed to have written over a weeekend.
You being a writer have to acknowledge his ability, right? Or are you too partisan?
Isn’t it the Drama’s supporters that claim we have an extra chromosome?
But hey, when you’re that cool it doesn’t matter what you say as long as you seem smooth saying it.
You are linking to nothing in this story. They’ve pulled it.
Personally, I’d say that the Obamessiah just made a mistake. He’s human (supposedly) like the rest of us. He is probably tired from the years of campaigning for president (after he said he would fulfill his Senate term first). I’m sure each and every one of us has said dumb things many, many times.
That said, Matt’s point stands: if it were Bush that said it, or McCain, the left would be ripping them apart. Most of what I have seen in the right-o-sphere is people making fun of Obama’s gaffe in a fun way. I haven’t seen anything mean, yet.
Lol. The video of Obama saying, “57″ states is funny.
