John Edwards Finally Endorses Obama
May 14th, 2008 at 05:48pm Matt Margolis
Someone is looking for that VP slot.
Democrat John Edwards is endorsing former rival Barack Obama, fresh signs of the party establishment embracing the likely nominee even as Hillary Rodham Clinton refuses to give up her long-shot candidacy.
ADVERTISEMENTEdwards was to appear with Obama in Grand Rapids, Mich., as Obama campaigns in a critical general election battleground state.
The endorsement comes the day after Clinton defeated Obama by more than 2-to-1 in West Virginia. The loss highlighted Obama’s work to win over the “Hillary Democrats” — white, working-class voters who also supported Edwards in large numbers before he exited the race.

So, do they play bagpipes or just hold a wake for Hillary Clinton’s political career?
What was it she was drinking before? Beer and a shot of whiskey?

P.S. - I know that Barack HUSSEIN Obama was born a Muslim. I’m not sure if Barack is still a Muslim or if he is indeed a Muslim apostate living under a death sentence. (Obama’s such a world-class liar that it’s difficult to determine what he truly believes.)

Being a expert on the subject, Freedom1, perhaps you could advise us what the penalty would be for a Muslim who attended Christian services for 20 years.

Wow, Freedom1, y’all are in big trouble. A lying Muslim will be President of the U.S. of A.
How in the blue blazes will you be able to drag yourself out of bed in the morning knowing that a lying Muslim goes to sleep each night in the White House? Aren’t you petrified?

An elitist endorsing an elitist. This should really shift the balance of power. Also, I would never count a Clinton out.
Can’t wait for the riots of the ‘08 Dem convention…at least I shouldn’t gain weight eating popcorn.

The Breck Girl’s endorsement is a clear bid for the Veep spot on the ticket. Obama will probably bite, banking on that white southern drawl to win the hearts and minds of those bitter, low income, uneducated, blue collar, gun toting bible clingers that Obama has been dissing for the past few months.
As Veep Breck Girl will be first in line to succeed the President, in the event of his demise. For his part the Breck Girl is secretly hoping that one of those bitter gun totting bible klingers will evententually give him a promotion.

BTW, CO, as our electoral college decides elections after your preferred party bloodies itself — you should realize that Sen. Obama is falling fast. Wondering if he will wake up before he hits the deck. Figuring 30% of Dems will sit out the election depending on who “wins” the nomination–doesn’t look good.

phhx,
I realize it was an oversight but somehow you missed “boogger-eating, mouth-breathers” in the compleat definition of us folks that work, like to shoot & believe.
Nice thought though on the Veep spot.

David,
No offense intended. I was simply repeating the oft repeated liberal definition of anyone who won’t or hasn’t voted for Obama.
16. Some Assembly Required | May 14th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
I agree, the reason why Edwards held off so long on his endorsement was for the Veep spot. Watch the super-delegates move shortly after Hilary’s win in Kentucky followed by Obama’s win in Oregon to give Obama the 2025 delegates needed before May 31st. This way the dem’s do not find themselves in the mess of deciding what to do with Florida and Michigan.
Edwards endorsement will be the final straw for Hilary, IMO. Any momentum she may have gained from West Virgina is now moot.

No way the VP spot goes to a candidate who failed to deliver even his home state in that role before. Look for Edwards to be A-G after Obama beats McCain.
18. Some Assembly Required | May 14th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Thrower, interesting, my first thought when Edwards dropped out was that he was to going to endorse Obama shortly after for the A-G position. But as time dragged on and he still did not endorse Obama I began to wonder. I think his holding off this long is either the result of one of two things:
1) He wants the VP slot
2) He saw this battle happening and waited to endorse Obama to give the superdelegates the excuse they needed to end the contest without destroying the parties chances in November.
If the second turns out to be the case then I agree he is fully after the A-G. Personally, I think he’d make a great A-G.
It would also be a superb political move which could have very well saved the dem’s from Clinton stealing the nomination via Florida and Michigan followed by back door deals with superdelegates and special interest groups to help her fund her campaign.
Lets be real here, if Clinton managed to be the nominee, McCain and the Republicans could ignore everything from her past and focus on how she manipulated the rules of her own party to take the nomination out of the hands of the people.

Is that such a bad thing, wanting to be nominated for Vice President? There is much more to it than that, anyway: Edwards’s supporters were much more favorable to Obama than to Hillary. (I know… ’cause I am an Edwards supporter!) And even though most of us will go ahead and vote for Hillary if we have to, we were running much more against Hillary than against Obama. Our view of Obama was that he was very good, but not quite as good as our guy. (And I think the events of the last four months prove thjat Edwards would have been the right choice)
20. SEW | May 14th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Edwards would be similar to Al Gore—can’t even win his native state. And Al didn’t chase ambulances for a living but carbon offsets and snakeoil are more lucrative. Edwards is trying for VP, might take AG. But thanks to Billary’s 49% who won’t vote for Hussein, McCain is the man.
Great theater Dems!
21. Carl | May 14th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
IMHO John Edwards as VP is a liability (see John Kerry’s campaign) and I think he knows it. I strongly suspect the position he’s campaigning for (from what I have read and heard from various sources) is Attorney General.

John Edwards is about as overrated a political figure as I have ever seen with the exceptipn of lightweight Barack.
Edwards did not bring John Kerry one thing positive in 2004, and has 2 Presidential campaigns that have FLOPPED big time.

F1 and FormerMarine,
Don’t worry, we on the Left will be raising a glass in November, but not quite for the same reasons you guys THINK you will. I quite look forward to some drunk victory blogging in November, being that Matt and Mark don’t take down the site in disgust after the overwhelming defeat that is coming to the Republican party.
Hey, where’s “lil” Denny Hastert, your old Speaker of the House. Oh, that’s right!
Sweet, sweet victory. Dont worry, there will be plenty of crow to go around for the rest of you on the Right!
Peace, Gaijin

“An elitist endorsing an elitist.”
That is hilarious! If anyone is an elitist this cycle it is without a doubt John McCain.
27. hermie | May 15th, 2008 at 10:42 am
What makes Edwards’ endorsement so important?
He was a rookie one-term Senator, who was the VP nominee for the purpose of bringing the southern states into the Kerry camp, but it failed. He never ran for another office after that loss, and his 2008 Presidential campaign crashed and burned.
If Lieberman, the 2000 VP nominee endorsed McCain, would that be hailed by the MSM as a ‘major endorsement’? Not likely.
