Family Wiped Out? Starving? Don’t Worry! The UN is Here to Help!
May 21st, 2008 at 02:11am Mark Noonan
Close it down. Implode it. Sow the ground with salt - just make certain that once we kill the UN, it stays dead:
The United Nations will send nearly a quarter of a million condoms into cyclone-hit Myanmar to help needy survivors with no access to contraceptives, a UN official says.
So far, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) said it had sent 72 800 condoms to survivors struggling to maintain their family planning after the storm hit in early May.
A total of 218 400 condoms would be delivered, UNFPA aid advisor Chaiyos Kunanusont said.
“We don’t want regular use of contraception disrupted. An emergency usually damages the health system, so people don’t have access to condoms and contraceptives,” said Chaiyos.
Who even thought about this? I want that person found and locked up as a raving lunatic…

The UN is Satanic. It really is. Gag.

The women of Myanmar could really use being pregnant right now.
3. Mark Noonan | May 21st, 2008 at 3:07 am
WvO,
I think that people struggling desperately to survive are not feeling romantic…pregnancy is the last thing to worry about at the moment, especially as the result of any pregnancy won’t appear for 9 months…
Its just sick, stupid and pathetic that anyone even thought of this…

The way you write it, one might think this is the entire aid package envisioned by the UN. But relief flights are also carrying reproductive health kits which include razors for cutting umbilical cords and clean sheets for delivering babies. And you omit that the ruling junta is blocking other forms of aid which the UN would like to deliver but is not allowed to.
I’m with Willem - I would imagine that pregnancy for the next year or so would be somewhat inconvenient for a population entirely without homes or sanitary facilities. And regardless of your presumptions the fact is that human beings mate and reproduce even in the most abject circumstances. In light of the present reality condoms hardly seem a bad idea.
5. Willem van Oranje | May 21st, 2008 at 3:57 am
Really? People who have lost everything are not inclined to seek comfort with each other in desperate times?
And what about areas where parts of the infrastructure is destroyed but with little damage to the rest? Transport of food and other basic necessities might be severely interrupted but everything else is basically the same?
Face it. You just hate it when other people have sex.

In cases of extreme poverty and horrible living conditions, human reproduction goes through the roof. People have more babies because they have more people working with them to keep feed. Unfortunately this also places higher demand on food production in the west to maintain the greater aid required. Though condoms may seem ludicrous to you, shipping them in now is in fact addressing a problem which will occur in a couple of years. Planning ahead. Damn the UN for thinking of the future instead of the hear and now.

Unfortunately, instead of locking people like this away, they are interviewed breathlessly, or run for Congress as a democrat, or given their own show on MSNBC.

It’s threads like this that really make me wonder if you have any idea of what goes on outside of the US or North America for that matter. In the coming years population control will be a reality even in North America. Unless of course there is some global pandemic (which we are due for). We are growing to fast as a race for the resources that are available to us here on Earth. Until we can colonize other planets the only solution is population control. The best system of course being education. Though I think what maybe more of a reality is something along the lines of what China has in place. 1 Child per family, maybe 2 here in North America.
What is interesting about China is though they only are permitted 1 child per family, most want a boy (to carry on their name). This in itself is another form of population control.
Take 100 families, split the babies evenly between male and female. Thats a possible 50 more children in the next generation.
Now take the same 100 families and say only 1 in 5 are female. You possibly have 20 more children in the next generation.
Inversely, if 1 in 5 are male there is a possibility of 80 children in the next generation.
What the Chinese are doing by keeping males is further decreasing their population from 50% in coming generations.

The Chinese plan sounds good in theory, SAR, but how exactly to they ensure the higher male ratio.
10. Some Assembly Required | May 21st, 2008 at 10:35 am
CO, Thats the problem. From what I have read, orphanages are vastly over crowded and female babies are often left in dumpsters if they are undesired. I’m unaware of their beliefs on abortion as of right now so I cannot comment as to whether or not the family has the option to abort if the fetus is not the desired gender. If they as a society have no moral objections to abortion it would make a perfect solution for all parties involved.
I thought is was interesting how though unintended, the theory has possible applications for future population control.

First, the United Nations thought it would be a good idea to come to the United States to do a little investigation into racism in our presidential campaign.
Now this “genius” of an idea.
What is also important, the UN Secretary General wants to tighten the reins on anti-corruption and ethics investigations within the UN and even keep the results from those investigations from the general public.

The UN another liberal scam. Ohio, I say kick them all out and withdraw from the UN completely. The most investigations and criticism concerning human rights are heaped upon the US and not regimes like the junta, China, North Korea and other liberal left wing governments.

Mark,
Why are you against birth control? You obviously practice birth control because you have never sired children of your own. Do you believe that only certain people are allowed to practice birth control?
I think that people struggling desperately to survive are not feeling romantic…pregnancy is the last thing to worry about at the moment
You have never been in a war zone. People have sex while starving, bombs falling, etc. Your statement speaks volumes about the fact that you truly have never had to suffer in life.
Are you that removed from real life that you think people only have sex while in a nice home with granite countertops and a full stomach?
Talk about elitist beliefs.

Quite the contrary Mr Noonan. in Myanmar, like any other nation where such tragedies occur, sexual relations often become not only a refuge against the horror but a form of barter for the meager supplies that are available. However, since such intimate contact in such a disease ravaged area with all the bodies float about can lead to the greater spread of illness distributing and utilizing condoms is quite the logical call.

How about in North America no kids and the money that would be poured into waste on clothing every August and iPos and the rest could go to giving children in places like Myanmar, Darfur and Ethiopia the very basics of human dignity as opposed to the “America lifestyle” of prurient waste by the so-called ethical?

You do realize that sort of “rogue nation” isolationism will lead to the eventual demise of the United States? America cannot exist as a nation outside of the global economy. Being patriotic or even radically nationalist to a fault is one thing but the ignorance is measured by a nation like America that is energy dependent trying to “strike out on her own” and “tighten the reins” to teach the rest of Terra a lesson is beyond fool hardy it is suicidal in realpolitik terms.
Being cocksure looks good on a blog young man but I would be quick to ask what would a gallon of petrol cost if the Saudis cut you off for six months? You could run on the SPR at full tilt for about 60 days give or take, after that then what?

Though that’s an excellent question, I think it maybe borderline communism. In theory, it’s perfect, in practice not so much as evidenced by USSR. Saying that, the increase in money in poor or third world countries would certainly put a dent in rising population. As I’m sure your aware wealthy and educated countries tend to curve population growth to almost stagnant levels via proper birth control. So I agree changing the North American culture to a more global one would certainly have an impact. I think gearing down the constant advertising assault on the youth would be a starting point. Sadly, I don’t see it happening in my lifetime.
21. bob | May 21st, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Some Assembly Required, indeed it was an excellent question. Not that you would know what an excellent question was. At least you got to identify a good question, probably this will account for your greatest accomplishment?? …who knows. Sadly the list is growing for things in your lifetime that you won’t be seeing…such as a naked woman, your toes, you owning a nice car, I’m sure it goes on….

Hi bob, you got me nailed son. I’m a fat virgin who lives on a steady diet of government cheese living in a van down by the river. I also dropped out of highschool when I was 16.
Care to input something into the debate aside from cowardly self projected personal insults? I’ll gladly respond, but this is my last response to your personal insults.

The U.N oil for food program, a scam.
Rebecca Peters and her U.N gun ban program, trying to pass laws that affect the whole world.
She needs to be replaced with someone who respects individual countries constitutions, cultures, rights
It is important that our next President is not a puppet for or sell-out to the U.N.

Hey Leftists, in an emergency like that in Myanmar, food, water and medicine are the priorities, not condoms. Birth control is not high on the agenda when people are trying to survive day to day.
Very few flights are being allowed in to the country. So why waste precious cargo space with condoms? Only a moron would think that a good idea.
25. Willem van Oranje | May 22nd, 2008 at 12:31 am
So, the fundamentalists not only want to control with WHOM you can have sex and they not only want to control HOW you can have sex; they also want to control WHEN you can have sex.
26. LiberalNitemare | May 22nd, 2008 at 1:45 am
I was going to contribute some money towards assisting the victims in Myanmar.
However since there seems to be such a glut of food, blankets and medical supplies on scene, that we are now air dropping condoms on the relief flights. Im going to have to assume that the actual emergency is over.
Way to set priorities guys.

Birth control is not high on the agenda when people are trying to survive day to day.
You cats have no idea what it’s like to suffer.
Here we have another silver spoon cat that thinks only when you are full and live in a house with granite countertops will people have sex.
This thread is fantastic. You guys are always calling people elitist…but your true colors are coming out.
I guess when the Serbs and Croats were having their civil war…no sex was going on. After all, when you are worried about day to day survival…sex aint on the mind.
You guys live way too cushy lives.
28. phnx | May 22nd, 2008 at 7:23 am
Brett you are an idiot. We aren’t talking about poverty we are talking abot survival.
You’ve obviously never seen people when there is no food and water. I can assure you that their first priority is not sex., and they are sure not concerned about ’safe sex’.
But in the end this is more about the priorities of those who are providing aid than the survivors. There is limited space on these flights so let’s fill it with condoms?!!?? Brilliant
29. Cavalor Epthith, Esquire, D.S.V.J. | May 22nd, 2008 at 8:11 am
I do not think that this can be discussed without, through pure necessity, having to build a Chinese Wall of some sort between what the writer intends for Terra as seen through the lens of his worldview as a Roman Catholic Church adherent and the reality that five billion people on Terra do not share that worldview. This fact established and with respect to both the Catholics and the Bhuddists in Myanmar and Terrawide a great point then is missed by the narrow analysis of this aid shipment. And that is that this aid shipment one tri-wall box on one plane taking up roughly 110 cubic meters of space inside an Antonov cargo plane that was packed with other medical supplies as well according to the UN.
The issue of, morally, what sex [physical pleasure or procreation only] is for in the mind of the author colors this debate with a paintbrush that need not be used and has no meaning to the people of Myanmar devastated by this tragedy who do not need more mouths to feed as they attempt to recover from Cyclone Nagis in the years to come.

Brett you are an idiot. We aren’t talking about poverty we are talking abot survival.
Like I said in my previous post…why did the birth rates increase during the Croat/serb war?
They were worried about survival. Women and children had ot run thru sniper alley just to get water….yet they had sex.
Cavalor hit the nail on the head. Catholics like Mark Noonan do not believe in birth control for the masses (Im assuming he doesnt include himself in the masses since he does pratice birth control).

Yes, but it’s the damn dirty liberals who don’t understand the concept of “leave us alone,” according to Mark Noonan. I’m sure he’s got that nicely rationalized in his head somehow.
