Send a Marine to Congress

May 21st, 2008 at 01:20am Mark Noonan

Not just any Marine, but an Iraq campaign veteran, and the son of the elder Duncan Hunter, who has given so much good service to our nation and to the conservative movement - Duncan D. Hunter for Congress:

Our country was attacked by terrorists on 9/11/01. The very next day, Duncan quit his job, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps’ Officer Candidate School, and graduated as a Lieutenant in March of 2002. Duncan excelled in the area of field artillery, inspired by his grand-father, Robert O. Hunter, who was a Marine Corps artillery officer in the Pacific campaigns of WWII. Duncan went on to serve in the 1st Marine Division, in Iraq in 2003.

Lt. Hunter completed his second tour in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004, serving in Battery A, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines. In September of 2005, 1st Lieutenant Hunter was honorably discharged from active duty and began life as a civilian, while in the Marine Corps Reserves. Using his leadership skills developed in the military, he started a successful residential development company. While in the reserves, Duncan was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2006.

In the early part of 2007, Duncan decided that his leadership skills are best utilized in the continued service to his country. He made the decision to run for the United States Congress, to serve the American people and the people of the 52nd District, where he grew up. Shortly after filing to run for Congress, Duncan was re-called to active duty in the Marine Corps for a tour of duty in Afghanistan. He was able to campaign while on the front lines through his wife Margaret and his family, as they reached out to the voters on his behalf. Duncan is now home and campaigning full time.

Duncan and his wife Margaret reside in Lakeside, California. The Hunters are proud parents of Duncan, Elizabeth and Sarah.

Duncan D. Hunter is a strong conservative and hopes to work in Congress for a strong national defense to protect America; increased border security to stop illegal immigration and fiscal responsibility to protect taxpayers.

The GOP has a very hard task ahead of it in the Congressional races this year, but if all we do is send one more Marine to Congress, we’ll have done a good thing for our nation. Please contribute, and if you live in CA-52, volunteer to help out.

Speaking of the military in Congressl, here’s what happened during a recent session :

Fortney “Pete” Stark has stuck if foot in it again. This time he is upset by the presence of military men and women observing in the gallery of the House of Representatives. Here, for your reading pleasure, is the letter he sent to the Secretary of Defense about this horrible offense.

    Dear Secretary Gates:

Yesterday, while voting on the war supplemental spending bill in the House of Representatives, I couldn’t help but notice a contingent of approximately 20 flag rank Army officers sitting in the House Gallery watching the debate and vote for a couple of hours. I was looking from below so I thought they were Army, but there could have been other branches present.

It’s possible they were on leave time or vacation. If so, I obviously have no concern. However, if they were doing this on military time, I want an explanation of why they were there.

At a time when our nation is at war, our troops are over-extended, and the Administration is literally asking for emergency military spending, what good to the “war on terror” is having US Generals and other top ranked officers - who were likely accompanied by staff and escorted by their chauffeurs - spending hours sitting in the gallery of the House of Representatives?

Please provide for me the name, rank, branch, and duties of each of these officers, as well as the number of additional staff and drivers that were used to facilitate their attendance yesterday. I would like this information by Monday, May 19th.

If they were here on official duty, this was an abhorrent misallocation of our military resources at a time of war.

    Sincerely,

    Pete Stark

The soldiers witness first hand the shenanigans performed by liberals “who love the military”.

So for all of your soldiers who visited the House of Representatives that day, be looking forward to a love letter from Fortney Stark. How does Stark feel about the resources wasted in delaying and attaching pork to the same war funding bills?

    Gawd. What a jerk.

Is this Marine another denominational socialist who believes the whole of the country is obligated to pay for the mistakes of the Bush elite, as the secular socialists, lead by the likes of Kennedy, believe the we are all obligated to pay for the mistakes of the poor.
At least Kenedy has a brain tumor to explain his liberal thinking. How do religious socialists expalin theirs.
As far as ex-soldiers go, they have no more of a lock on morality or persuasivness than anybody else. If that were so, Murtha would be honored on this blog, and Randall Cunningham wouldn’t be in jail.
Oil is at 132 a barrel. Let’s ask Iraq to start sending some our way, or is this Marine just another religious socialist who believe we owe the Iraqis a living.
    Have a nice day!

JAT - speaking as an Army Gulf 1 vet, at least recognise that vets voluntarily served the country while most of our citizens have not.

Instead of sending this woman to Congress, maybe they should have sent Marine. Anyone else would have been better but then this is California.

    GOVERNMENT IDIOT OF THE DAY

There’s a newly elected California Congresswoman by the name of Laura Richardson. She’s a Democrat. There are now reports that this fine new government bureaucrat has walked away from her home mortgage of $535,000. Less than two years after buying the house with not one penny down, she just let it slip into foreclosure and wiped her hands clean.

In January of 2007, Richardson took out a mortgage on her Sacramento home for $535,000, the sale price of the house. Not only did she borrow the entire purchase prices, but she somehow talked the person selling the home into giving her an additional $15,000 to cover some of the closing costs.

So .. what does the lovely Ms. Richardson do after she wins a special election to Congress? She walks away from her home and the mortgage. At that point she owes Washington Mutual around $600,000. It seems she hadn’t been making payments. So .. she just walks.

Now Laura Richardson is a member – a Democrat member – of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is said that we get the type of government we deserve … right? What have we done to deserve Laura Richardson?

How many others have just simply walked away from their mortgages for stupid ass reasons? Maybe to get some tax payer money to pay their mortgage for them?

There are four other veterans running for Congress.

    Vets for Freedom

All very brave, honorable and, contrary to what Lurch says, very well educated. All are deserving of support.
