Defeated Iraqi Army Retreats into Sadr Stronghold
May 22nd, 2008 at 02:54am Mark Noonan
Yep, Sadr’s goons really showed them who’s boss:
- With not a Shiite fighter in sight, shoppers crowded through markets and cars packed the streets in Baghdad’s Sadr City on Wednesday — a positive early sign for Iraqi forces in their bid to impose control following a truce with the militia in its stronghold.
But while peace held in the sprawling slum a day after thousands of Iraqi troops rolled in, there were indications that militants were increasing their activity elsewhere. Skirmishes broke out in some nearby districts, including a clash that the U.S. military said killed 11 Shiite gunmen…
…people seemed relieved by the deployment and the calm it brought after weeks of clashes between his Mahdi Army fighters and allied U.S. and Iraqi troops on the edges of the district and in its southern sector.
Alaa Jassem, a day laborer, said the Iraqi troops were welcome — “they are our brothers, our sons, our friends” — but said the government “must be sincere in its promises and deliver aid to the city.”
The Iraqi government has said that as part of the deployment, it will direct funds for reconstruction in Sadr City, which is plagued by poor sewage systems that often overflow, drinking water shortages and poor garbage collection.
Poor liberals - they wanted us to surrender in 2004…

Peace and stability are good. The time for winning and losing is past We saw this three years ago. The more of this that happens the sooner US troops can depart Muslim land and that too is good.
This needs not be an issue in 2008 elections. The decline of the US consumer economy is enough of a wall for the GOP to have to climb. The voters do not care about flag waving success in Iraq if a box of cereal costs 8 bucks and gas I 4 bucks a gallon. That rustling you hear is the average American rustling in their bed trying to wake up from the American nightmare of high food prices, high energy prices and looming foreclosure.

Thats right Pain, nothing to see here move along. Pathetic. I would like an apology from Diana and all the other monday morning generals that crowed about Sadr’s victory a month ago when they spouted the msm talking points, but i know i wont get it. Any chance matt or mark, could make a thread and highlight some of their comments about how we were being defeated? No we have pain stating that it doesn’t matter if we win. What a caring progressive idea. i’m sure the troops would disagree with you jackass, but i dont think you care.

“The purpose of the surge was to create a secure time for the government of Iraq to make the political change to bring reconciliation to Iraq They have not done that.” Nancy Pelosi
“I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week,” Harry Reid
That rustling sound is actually the sound of liberal democrats trying desperately to distract the rest of us from their earlier attempts to surrender our nation to terrorists.

Peace and stability are good.
Yes, they are. However, they have NEVER been established with muslims by a unilateral pullout, as some have called for. Just ask the Israelis after Gaza.
Appeasement, “surrender”, un-patriotic, lack of love for the homeland are all phrases right out of the 1944 Joseph Gobles propaganda archives.
No. Appeasement was the playbook of misguided British prime minister Neville Chamberlain, whose mistakes only whetted the appetite of Göbbels’ boss for more land to conquer and control.
