Barack Obama: “Being There?”

May 28th, 2008 at 10:31pm Leo Pusateri

Robert Ferrigno, author of “Prayers for the Assassin” and his latest, “Sins of the Assassin” has an article of what an Obama presidency may look like, in the eyes of Mahamoud Ahmawhackjob. Read the whole thing.

I had a correspondence today with Mr. Ferrigno, in which I compared Obama with the movie, “Being There,” with Peter Sellers playing “Chance,” the cognitively-challenged gardener (Chauncy Gardner), who at the end of the movie is being considered for a run for POTUS.

Mr. Ferrigno responded,

“Leo
you nailed it with the Being There analogy. amazing. the guy truly is a blank screen on which people project their deepest desires. we’re in for some rough water, i’m afraid.
Robert

Is Barack Obama a life imitating art in this case? One would think so.

This is a fascinating thought and frankly one I had not previously considered. However, that being said, the more I think about it, the more I believe this point to be 100% accurate.

Judged in a vacuum, Obama is awful (Auschwitz anyone?). However, when the Hope of a nation (or some such drivel) is cast upon him by the fawning media the lying racist is transformed…

    Kudos Leo, kudos

It’s funny that you would compare Obama to Chauncey Gardner (Being There is a great movie and novel by the way). I say that because McCain is the one who is largely a blank state in this contest while Obama has offered up more substantive policies than anyone else. For intance, whither McCain’s energy policy? Oil and gas price are likely to be the hot button issue of the summer however I can’t find a single section of John McCain’s website that deals with energy.

McCain seems to be making it up as he goes along, waiting for the campaign polling to come back to tell him where to stand on the issues. Obama on the other hand has a detailed section of his site that outlines his proposals in depth. I’m particularly impressed by his commitment to mandating fuel efficiency increases and his explicit support for carbon trading.

You can check out Obama’s energy proposals here:
    http://www.barackobama.com/issues/energy/

Obama has also not been afraid to outline tough policies with regard to curbing runaway military spending. The quadrennial review has basically been a blank check to third party mega-contractors in recent years. The ridiculously expensive Future Combat Systems package is littered with pet projects that aren’t going to do a damn thing to keep this country safe in the future and Obama has shown the political courage to stand up and talk about this issue in a society where the republicans have tried to equate any questioning of military spending with sedition.

I could go on but hey I understand that your best bet come November is to try to create some stereotype of Obama as an empty suit. That won’t work, he’s a substantive guy who is completely comfortable talking about the issues. Mister foreign policy expert John McCain on the other hand has repeatedly demonstrated an inability to distinguish between Shia and Sunni groups - ya know stuff like that is kind of important for us to succeed over there these days.

You guys aren’t about to let the facts stand in your way though, I know that much.

    Dear Leo,

There will be growth in the spring.

    Sincerely,

    Chauncey Obama

ya know stuff like that is kind of important for us to succeed over there these days.

Like Obama is in it for “success” in Iraq?

Yep. That’s right. He wants to “negotiate” for “success.”

Tell him this for me, will ya? Tell him….’You can’t negotiate with people who are bloodthirsty. Their ears are open and their minds are dead set.’

    Sam,

Speaking of not letting facts get in the way, I guess you recall how the lying, racist was campaigning earlier in the primary season positioned against NAFTA. All the while his surrogates where whispering via back channels to the Canadian government that the presumptive demoncRAT nominee was only joshing around?

Is that the substantive policies you are speaking about?

Or is it your candidate’s complete lack of knowledge of the Hanford Nuclear Waste site that is so compelling to you? Need I point you to that YouTube video where Obama hems and haws his way through a non-answer?

Your guy sucks (and in a HUGE way) and pointing us to some web links is hardly the making of a stellar POTUS.

    *cough* Auschwitz *cough*

    So GOP4ME….

You think that in depth knowledge of the Hanford Nuclear Waste site is far more important to this country’s success than having an actual energy policy or being able to distinguish between Sunnis and Shia? We’ll see if the electorate agrees with you come November.

And guess what, the public doesn’t give a crap about Obama misremembering the name of the concentration camp his relative helped liberate. On the other hand Scott McClellan’s juicy tell-all was all over the networks tonight.

    …snigger…

As long as Obama will get the troops out of Iraq, I and 60 percent of the citizens who want all troops out of Iraq now, will be voting for him.

  • 9. GOP4ME  |  May 29th, 2008 at 3:19 am

    Misremembering????

Man that is so friggin rich I can’t stand it.

I never said one was more important than the other, although you have, in true leftist fashion, done well to twist my words.

What I was responding to was your assertion that Obama had offered up more substantive policies than anyone else.

But, if the individual who is “offering up” such “substantive policies”, is completely clueless about the worst and most toxic nuclear waste site in the country then it brings his abilities into question.

Or if the same individual is prone to “misremembering” things like the names of concentration camps, his preacher’s racist and hateful bile, the number of states in this country, whether or not Iran poses a grave threat (shall I go on?) then frankly you are backing a moron.

Let’s see how you ‘Rats do when your condescending attitude (which you have in spades) is laid bare before the american public. I mean we only grab for our guns and religion because we are bitter, right?

“As long as Obama will get the troops out of Iraq, I and 60 percent of the citizens who want all troops out of Iraq now, will be voting for him.”

Just like they voted for the liberals in 2006, who promised the same thing.

What have they done since they now have control of the legislative process?

Non-binding resolutions and no confidence votes don’t count.

What legislation have they proposed to bring the troops home?

Oh, that’s right, according to a PA Democrat (can’t remember his name off the top of my head) said that they were not completely honest during that election.

    Surprise. Surprise.

What are you going to do when he doesn’t bring the troops home IF elected?

    Probably nothing.

“your best bet come November is to try to create some stereotype of Obama as an empty suit.” Sam Spade

Create some stereotype? The empty suit is doing a fantastic job by himself! Barry Some Obama, Barry Snippet Obama, Barack Hussein Obama, meet without preconditions with Petraeus, no, try Ajmadman, yes.

    Hope and Change. Empty suit.

Leo, if you’re going to have someone floating on air like Mary Poppins, the umbrella should be open and above his head.
