Obama Has Trouble in Michigan

This is a must-win State for Obama - pretty much its a case of “no Michigan, no White House” for Obama…and yet in recent polling, according to Real Clear Politics, McCain has a slight lead.
Now, one has to expect that in heavily unionised Michigan Obama will eventually emerge the winner - but it seems pretty clear that Obama will have to fight for it, and that is bad news…any time and money spent fighting to hold is time and money which can’t be spent trying to poach in GOP territory.
As per usual, I still say the GOP has a long, hard road in front of it - but there’s no reason for any GOPer to be gloomy.

Considering that the Dems controlling Michigan have botched everything in state government, and are going to raise taxes AGAIN, there’s a chance that the GOP could make significant gains.
The governor has tried to run away from the situation with Detroit’s incompetent and crooked Mayor. The longer she avoids addressing it, the longer the problems are going to fester, and the voters will see just how incompetent she is.
A union member who can’t afford Michigan’s taxes, sees his and other jobs being chased out of the state, and watches the government collapse under its own foolishness and corruption, is less likely to support the same politicians who are going to sock him again with even more taxes.

Michigan is hurting bad. The past economic growth has passed us by due to our long domination by poor performing democratic leaders. Without former Gov. Engler to blame, its difficult for union leaders to credibly blame republicans for the mess.

hermie and the brain,
True, but the unions will spend many millions of dollars saying its all Bush’s fault and McCain is just as bad…at the end of the day, I expect Obama to win Michigan (if necessary with chicanery in Detroit), but he’s going to have to fight for it…and, hey, anything’s possible.
