Is Hillary Planning To Drop Out?
June 2nd, 2008 at 09:39pm Matt Margolis
The media seems eager to write an unhappy ending for Hillary… but somehow, I’m not convinced she truly is planning to call it quits. This story seems to suggest she’s strategizing her campaign’s end.
Negotiations are understood to be taking place between the Obama and Clinton campaigns about the Illinois senator helping to repay some of the massive debt incurred by his rival. One of Hillary Clinton’s donors said that the former First Lady’s campaign was as much as $40 million in the red.
In a conference call with major donors this afternoon, contributors were told by Harold Ickes, a senior Clinton adviser, that she was unlikely to pull out of the race until the issue of her massive debts was resolved. The New York senator has lent her own campaign at least $11.5 million.
One source close to a major donor said: “It’s not about the vice-presidency or any other position she might get. It’s about the money – in particular the Clinton family money.” The Obama campaign might have to reach deeply into its well-stocked coffers in order to secure the full support of Mrs Clinton and her husband Bill in the November general election.
So, is it over? If i had to wager money, I would put my money on ‘no.’

Who knows, but I say that she tries to take it all the way to the convention. At the very least, wait out her appeal to the committee, which will take awhile.

I keep hearing/reading more rumors of Obama offering Hillary the VP slot but I find that extremely unlikely. I’ve even heard/read of rumors that she’d offered to bow out IF Obama publicly offered her the VP slot after she announced she would be withdrawing from the Dem. race for POTUS which she would politely decline but, according to the rumor, Obama nixed that idea. Then I’ve been hearing that they will offer her a cabinet slot if she will graciously bow out. I really can’t see that happening either. Imagine the congressional hearings on that.
Frankly, it would not surprise me if she goes all the way to the Convention and tries all sorts of shady backroom deals with the superdelegates.

Operation Chaos has succeeded in prolongong the race and burning up democrat cash. Between the two they have raised and spent almost 1/2 BILLION DOLLARS. And despite that McCain is ahead of Obama in some polls.

Why the hell would you bail out your opponent after a race? I know they are from the same party, but if she took out bad loans or spent her own money, that is her problem. Obama needs go start getting those dollars up. The Democrats are going to raise so much cash it is going to make Bush’s 2004 effort look like a piggy bank.
I think there is a good chance she bows out in the next week. I think the Superdelgates are going to crush her dreams. Then again, I don’t put it past her to still be campaigning on Obama’s ignaguration day.

gaijin,
It does seem a tall order - fork over 40 million, which would pretty much leave Obama without any cash…and while he, so far, has been a cash-machine in fundraising, there is a bottom to the well. If Hillary really is 40 mil in the hole, then the DNC’s near bankruptcy and the Democratic convention’s inability to raise money becomes a real eye-opener…the bottom might be out of the tub on Democratic fundraising…they might have spent it all in the primaries.

here are a few short excerpts :
Basically, 99% of Obama’s money comes from small donors in the form of individual contributions.
If this million people go and give just $50 each… Sorry, but I don’t believe this is a well that is going to dry up as soon as you wish.
