  The fact that the lefty trolls have to use the childish rant of ‘racist’ , shows that they have run out of actual intelligent comments, and they can easily be ignored by everyone else here.

  Its like having the crazy aunt in the cellar…She makes nutty comments, but we all know that it’s just old Aunt Millie, and we keep going forward.

  It clearly demonstrates their ability to unify the country, doesn’t it?

  They are so understanding of other viewpoints and so tolerant of dissent, that it really goes without saying that these are the type of people we need to unify this country and improve our world standing……….NOT!!!!!!

  I respect that this is your site and you’re fed up with nasty comments directed at you, but when you allow nasty comments directed at those with opposing political ideology to remain it makes you look as if you fear that what they say even if it is not a personal attack will destroy your arguments. In fact this is true so I can understand why you feel you have to censor and erase even the most basic dissent that offends you and your worldview.

The problem you have is not that there are no liberal intelligent arguments it is that you refuse to listen to them because any disagreement with your agenda cannot be tolerated. When you are wrong you say nothing when you say you are right and facts are presented to dispute you you point to the source, when that same source serves your needs you utilize it however. It is the circular argument of the ideological ouroboros, the snake eating its tail. No matter though this will be solved at the ballot box and then you can all gnash your teeth and foam at the mouth staring into Sol shouting that you have been forsaken when it was by your own action you were brought to task. Your side had full control of the US government both the legislative and executive for six solid years and you allowed September 11 to cower you into ruling rather than motivating you to govern; your side chose patriotism over progress and that will be your undoing that the historians will note with clarity in both the near term and centuries from now.

  What do you think of Jeremiah’s admitted racism (he thinks interracial marriage is “disordered”) and desire to execute not only gays, but judges who make gay-friendly rulings? Is that “crazy aunt” territory? Worse?

  Lately, it seems like most of the liberal commentary here is made up of long winded posts that really have no substance and little purpose other than to provide a vehicle for the poster to call you stupid and/or insult your religion.

  I think you deserve some praise for your tolerance and restraint. Based on what I see here that goes unpunished, Im confident that anyone that has been banned deserves it.

  Mark,
  You often belittle people who disagree with you. You allow racist rantings from some of the right wingers, and about 75% of the threads you post are negative and yet you sound surprised when people call you names. I think basically you are a decent person, but you set yourself up for a lot of the negativity that happens on this blog.

  The simple answer is that “when one lies with the dogs ~ one wakes up with fleas” and to the contrary is “a rising tide lifts all boats.” I believe Mark and company has been very tolerant of opposing viewpoints across the spectrum unlike several other blogs.

  I can understand, yet not agree with, Sarah’s comment because I feel that leaving a posting does not reflect on the blog’s owners. I have read some really strange posting here over the years.

  Nonetheless, lowering one’s self to rolling in the gutter with others does not elevate the discussion. Pain seems to equate conservative ideas to rolling back the clock to the 20’s or so. Tractatus is a one hit wonder most of the time and Casper seems to take logical argument for belittlement. Valid opinions all and we know what they say about opinions—mine included.

  Try to keep it civil and those not banned are the better for it. BTW, “a pig-headed pig”? Is there any other kind?

  Mark, when you compare liberalism and democrats to Nazi’s you have to expect people to get offended and call you out for it. Sorry man, but thats just the way it works. I don’t agree with you on a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean I hate you per say. I’m sure a lot of people would agree with me here as well.

  I wouldn’t take it to heart Mark, after all were just keyboard warriors. Support the keys! They are the true heroes in this war and tend to fade after a while. Not to mention the possible chemical hazards Coke and Pepsi can pose.

  Your site, delete/ban whoever you like. Looking at the comments you posted above, I have a hard time disagreeing with you.

  On this, that is.

  People come here knowing full well that this is a pretty far-right site, and that center or left opinions are going to be treated with some degree of disdain. Therefore people with center and left opinions should expect to be more closely monitored, and should behave accordingly.

  It is possible to argue effectively, to discuss rationally, without resorting to namecalling.

  I know the difference between logical argument and belittlement. Comments like “Southerners just don’t like pinkos, such as most Democratic leaders are.” is hardly n example of logical argument.

  Point taken; however, with consideration that the slang of pinko is a person who holds moderately leftist political views–it is correct. And being from the South (actually had to move north to reach the South) and only speaking for myself–the statement stands as it is and is correct.

  Belittlement, in this case, is in the eyes of the beholder.

  I’ve always thought pinko was slang for commie, but that has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. Belittling people is not logical debate and both Mark and Matt have belittled people or groups of people who have different viewpoints than they do on numerous posts.
  That said, that does not excuse anyone from calling either Matt or Mark some of names that have been used. It does help explain why some people might go there.

  This is the same Fmr Marine who talks up Christianity almost as often as you do, Mark. Here’s a news flash: the very same Christ for whom Christianity is named said, “Love your enemies, do good to them that hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you.”

  Either you are a Christian or you aren’t. If you won’t be nice to your enemies and have no desire to be - well, you might be a lot of things, but a Christian isn’t one of them. It sounds as if Fmr Marine, like you, Mark, has an ideology that poses as religion while holding the actual teachings of Christ in contempt.

  Many on the left don’t have much use for religion but at least they’re honest about it, and most of them treat people well. Just as many on the right are equally anti-Christian, but continue to delude themselves that they are pious and well favored by God. And they have no qualms at all about being just as vindictive and dishonest as they please.

  It takes a lot more than being anti-abortion and anti-gay to be an authentic Christian. But like I’ve said before, the right wing has a real problem with definitions - particularly when it comes to Christianity. This certainly contributes to the problem you have of eliciting hateful remarks here on your blog.

  You make a big deal of your religion here, Mark. If you made half as much effort to portray a genuine Christlike spirit, kindly steered people such as Fmr Marine into the path of Christian tolerance and were even reasonably honest in your characterizations of others, I believe you would enjoy a lot more respect here at the Mark ‘n’ Matt sandbox.

  That’s just my opinion - feel free to disregard or delete as it may give you pleasure.

  Is there anything up there in my quotes which is a mere dissent from my views? No - look, I understand that you on the left will disagree with me, and do so strongly…I don’t ask you to curb your views; have at it…but the nastiness is almost all on the left. Some people come here merely to insult and threaten me, and I won’t have it - not for a moment, not ever.

  I might point out that liberalism shares a lot of the same worldview as Nazism - but I won’t call you a Nazi, no matter how much a liberal you are…because I know you’re not a Nazi and, indeed, that you despise the very thought of them. You don’t have to agree with my view on this, and you can state strongly your case as to why you think I’m wrong…but don’t call me a Nazi. My grandfather fought Nazis - to call me a Nazi is not just to insult me, but to insult my whole family which, by the way, also has Jewish blood in it.

  Similarly, calling me a racist or a bigot is just as much an insult - you can claim that a view of mine is racist in background; I’ll disagree…but don’t call me a racist. I’ll point out that some of your views are racist in nature - but I know full well you bear no ill will towards members of different races.

  FmrMarine is a firecracker, and I don’t always agree with what he says, nor in the manner which he states his views at all times…but he’s a man full capable of proclaiming his own views and defending himself against attack. He’s called a racist…and yet I’ve never seen him state that whites are superior, or that non-whites are inferior, nor has he advocated discriminatory policies based on race…if he’s a racist, he’s the oddest one who ever lived. But, of course, he’s not…and to call him that is, also, an insult.

  What I’m doing in this post is just letting everyone know why some people don’t stay around here for long - and if our website tilts towards the right (ie, if we are more lenient towards our rightwing commenters) then you’ll just have to put that down to the fac that we’re a right wing blog - and no matter how you slice it, we are much more free and open to dissent than Daily Kos or Democratic Underground. I make no pretense to existential fairness and I freely admit to bias towards my side - that is in the nature of things, and you’ll have to take it or leave it.

  From my experience, it is you who come here and presume to tell us if we’re Christian or not - we don’t do that to you. I am a Christian - a fallible, sinning Christian who stands amazed at Our Lord for what he has done for us, who don’t deserve such grace. I’ll make mistakes 20 times a day - you will, too…but I try to be generous; I try to answer hate with love…but I won’t allow this blog to become a mere hatefest that no one wishes to visit (and this, in my view, is the ultimate aim of the really nasty leftwing commenters).

  It’s uncanny how they come here and spew their hatred, equating everyone (non-liberal types only) here to bible-thumping, gun-toting trailer park trash and then have the nerve to whine when it is thrown back at them.
