What Media Bias? Part 115
June 2nd, 2008 at 01:42am Mark Noonan
From the New York Times corrections page:
An article on May 4 about black liberation theology and the debate surrounding the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr, Senator Barack Obama’s former minister, erroneously confirmed a statement by Mr. Wright that the United States has used biological weapons against other countries. There is no evidence that the United States ever did so.
First off - for the NY Times to even think that the US would have done such a thing reveals a strong bias against the United States. Secondly - for the NY Times to merely state there is no evidence, with the implication that there might be a credible accusation we did, reveals a vile hatred of all things American. In other words, just another day in the liberal media…

Mark,
Before you fall off your high horse there, the US is the ONLY nation to ever use nuclear weapons. We nuked two civilian targets. In addition, many people believe that things such as Agent Orange, White Phophorus and Depleted Uranium munitions fall under the Chemical, Biological, Nuclear weapons realm. Furthermore, you should remember the Tuskegee experiment and the 1966 US Army NYC subway experiment using Bacillus subtilis (a biological agent) were against American citizens. To suggest there is no way the US government, especially the CIA, could have possibly used biological weapons seems rather naive to me.

Good morning:
The US and the UK manufactured biological weapons and sold them. The US, under Reagan, sold anthrax to Saddam.

I never shot anybody, but if I gave a criminal a gun so he could shoot somebody else, am I not just as guilt?

And third, why the heck did it take the NY Slimes 3 weeks to issue a retraction? Probably because Pinchy Baby just couldn’t believe it when someone told him the U.S. never used biological weapons, and assigned an army of interns to work full-time until they found evidence to confirm the lie. Finally, after 3 weeks of finding nothing, he finally had to admit his reporter just made it up. What a joke of a newspaper. “All the news that’s sh*t, we print.”

You have to realize, Gaijin, that when the U.S. uses nuclear, chemical and biological weapons against the ‘enemy’ it is to protect our ‘freedoms’ and to ensure that peace reigns supreme throughout the globe.
Being the world’s only protective force for good against evil is a thankless job and we all should just shut our traps and stop the bellyaching.
As the U.S. is the planet’s sole beacon of truth and integrity, it should be the one and only nation allowed to keep its arsenal; all others should be forced to disarm. Friend and foe alike; because as we all know, a friend today could be an enemy tomorrow.

gaijin & CO - the firebombings of Tokyo & Dresden in WW2 caused far more casualities than using 2 nukes.
I have first hand experience that depleted uranium is LESS radioactive than an old microwave or color tv.
back on point, biological weapons are tactically difficult 2 store & transport aside fm not being very effective…unless they’re dolphins detecting underwater mines!
peace thru strength.

Mostly likely, somebody somewhere in the line of writing/editing conflated ‘biological’ with some from of ‘WMD’. Easy mistake to make, a correction was printed, and exactly HOW does this indicate a bias? They didn’t say that the Republican party, or conservatives, or Mark Noonan, had used biological weapons.

I wish to protest against the conservative bias in your comment verifier! On my last comment, the words were ‘eurofund ugly’. You’re clearly trying to influence me against holding stocks of euros!
:)
(and this one is ‘climax fretful’! Are you anti-sex, too?)

Isn’t that naive? No thinking person could confuse nuclear weapons with biological weapons. The obvious fact is some New York Slimes reporter believed the U.S. had used biological weapons in the past, and it took Little Pinchy 3 whole weeks of fruitless searching to finally admit there was no evidence to support his reporter’s statment.

No way Mark’s comment verifier could be anti-sex, Dean. If anything, it’s a horn dog…the one I just got is “relative’s Bamboo”(!).

Ohio,
Yes, I do know about both of those bombings. However, it doesn’t justify the use of nuclear weapons. We are the only country to have ever done so. I will say that it probably saved more lives on both sides. At the same time, it openned one hell of a Pandora’s box.
