The gallows in my garden, people say,
Is new and neat and adequately tall;
I tie the noose on in a knowing way
As one that knots his necktie for a ball;
But just as all the neighbours–on the wall–
Are drawing a long breath to shout “Hurray!”
The strangest whim has seized me. . . . After all
I think I will not hang myself to-day.To-morrow is the time I get my pay–
My uncle’s sword is hanging in the hall–
I see a little cloud all pink and grey–
Perhaps the rector’s mother will not call– I fancy that I
heard from Mr. Gall
That mushrooms could be cooked another way–
I never read the works of Juvenal–
I think I will not hang myself to-day.The world will have another washing-day;
The decadents decay; the pedants pall;
And H.G. Wells has found that children play,
And Bernard Shaw discovered that they squall,

This is for two purposes:
1. To let you all know that I’ll be off and on posting over the next few days as the Mrs and I attend the grand-daughter’s 3rd birthday out of town.
2. Its an excellent poem for we GOPers - we’re supposed to be down and sure we’re losers…but, after all, I don’t think I shall hang myself today, because tomorrow we may beat Obama.

Well, Mark, it’s good to know you appreciate a whimsical poem now and again. I liked your selection.
Although we each are free to find our own meanings in it, I can understand your melancholy. After all it was Juvenal who said, “The people that once bestowed commands, consulships, legions, and all else, now concerns itself no more, and longs eagerly for just two things - bread and circuses.” No wonder you find yourself lost in morbid reflections.
Juvenal also asked, “Who will guard the guards themselves?” A fine question many of us have been asking ever since Mr. Bush appointed himself keeper of the people’s freedoms.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Chesterton - all the more since I read his quote, “The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.”

Jeremiah, I’m a lifelong Bible-believing Christian. And I take my marching orders from Jesus - not from right-wing, politically-motivated quasi-religious movements and people who find devious ways to avoid what our Lord actually taught and said.
My heart is very warm and I love humanity in all its twisted, amazing, God-created variety.

Has not treated the country well as of late.
Perhaps the fault lies in the lack of piety
Declaring God is on our side is great
Till you realise your false fielty
With true devotion wil not mate
Telling others how to live
Is not the Christian way to give
Being an example is the way to take a stand
He who does follows the lords command
If you make judging others to be the Christan ideal
Beware, it is from the lord you steal
You will pay for your sins, oh tormented
Equity from your home, the price of gas,
forclosure, loss of job, will not be prevented
by seeing the pope or going to mass
You prayed when you should have counted
Sought out an honest financier instead of a priest
Now your home will be mounted
by the most unexpected beast
Not someone with “666″ on their head
Or who prays to some diety alien to you
But the banker in church whose prayers the priest lead
Pay up now! She says, You’ve no right to sue.
No matter what you lose
Its ok as long as you go to church, and pay your dues
And the banker, remember to tip her
After all Gods been good to you cause he gave you the gipper.
Gods wrath comes to us in the most ordinary and painful way.
Fools among us dismiss the divine punishment for arrogance.
For the discerning, however, there is no reason to dismay.
The rational will not be looked upon by God askance.

Nice Poem, but I just one thing to say…
I’m not going to sit here and be responsible for you or Dennis or any of you going to Hell….No, I want to try to do what is right by warning you about the dangers of sin, and I can share God’s love with you in far greater measure than I would to simply say, “Ok, it’s ok do what you want.” In essence, the same as being silent putting myself in a position to be judged - God would say to me, “Why did you not tell them?”
What would I say?? “I don’t know God.”
In that, I’ve failed them miserably, because I failed to warn them of the dangers of living a life that leads to destruction.
Jesus always condemned sin before it was ever even committed, and wanted people to put temptation at bay…the same today.

Sorry to hear you have been thinking about killing yourself. I know since I left the Bush administration times have been hard on all you die-hards, but I didn’t think I would drive anyone to suicide. Glad to hear you haven’t done it yet.

I think this website is a splendid metaphor for neo-conservativism. It espouses a classicly conservative viewpoint, but appears to be actually run by anarchists.
Many of the links lead you to NSFW pornography sites. Most of the posters (Jeremiah?) appear to be trolls.
I think it’s time to lose the ideology and start looking at how other websites manage comment sections.
