Obama Ducking Questions Again Gas Prices In Perspective

Obama Considering Harry Reid For Running Mate?

June 10th, 2008 at 11:02am Matt Margolis

So says our sister blog, Blogs For John McCain’s Victory

Wouldn’t that be fantastic. Since Reid became the Democrat leader in the Senate, his approval ratings in Nevada have plummeted.

But, I think such a pick is highly unlikely. Besides Harry Reid does nothing to help Obama’s image as a far left partisan, I don’t see the Democrats being open to giving a Mormon their nomination for vice president.

Actually, it may not be all that unlikely. Although he’s a Mormon, he’s a lot like Mitt Romney in that his position on conservative issues like abortion and gay marriage really aren’t influenced by his faith.

And it really would solve a lot of problems with the Hillary supporters… pick Reid and promise Hillary Clinton the position of Senate Majority Leader.

Plus, like you said, it gets Harry Reid out of a bad situation in Nevada… but at the same time, his campaign staff in the state could help flip the swing state to the Dems.

You’re right about it coming across as a left-wing decision though. Interestingly, when Reid was picked to replace Tom Daschle (remember him?) as Democratic Minority Leader after the 2004 elections, Reid was touted by the Dems and the media as a pro-life, pro-values moderate.

I don’t know if independent voters would buy it, but I bet Reid has some old votes they could fall back on to say he’s a moderate again…

I hadn’t thought about Reid as a VP pick, but it’s not as unreasonable as we may think at first glance.

I highly unlikely that Obama would pick Reid. He adds almost nothing to the ticket. I do find it interesting that there seems to be a lot more pressure on Obama to pick a mate than there is on McCain. Why do you think that is?

  • 3. neocon  |  June 10th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

I know why you think it is Casper. Liberals are sooo transparent.

  • 4. Casper  |  June 10th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

    neocon,
Actually, I don’t know why. It would seem that McCain would be getting more pressure since he has had the nomination sewn so early. Yet the press seems to be pressuring Obama a lot more.

  • 5. extramedium  |  June 10th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Sounds like Obama is looking at retired military leaders for VP candidates. I wonder if he would pick up one of the guys forced out by the Bush administration for dissenting on the war. That would be interesting! Maybe he’ll take Colin Powell. Imagine that! An all (sorta) black ticket!

  • 6. neocon  |  June 10th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

    extra,

are the pages of your Obama book sticky?

  • 7. Mark Noonan  |  June 10th, 2008 at 2:37 pm

I’m of two minds about this - Reid would just add to the disaster of an Obama Administration but, on the other hand, we here in Nevada would be rid of him…kinda hard to know what to do…

  • 8. extramedium  |  June 10th, 2008 at 3:10 pm

neocon - you’re not going to get all gay with me like you did with Pain in that other thread, are you? The one where you couldn’t stop fantasizing about having sex with him with your KY Jelly? I’m surprised Mark hasn’t deleted it….with all his family values!

  • 9. neocon  |  June 10th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    extra,

I don’t where your mind is at, but I was just wondering if you spilled the jelly on your Obama book at breakfast while eating toast.

Get your mind out of the gutter. Sheesh. Is that all you think about?

  • 10. extramedium  |  June 10th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

    Hey neo,

I’ve got no problem with what you Log Cabin Republicans do in the privacy of your own home. Just thought you might want to keep your homoerotic fantasies to yourself this time. This is a family blog.

Well, whoever Obama chooses is gonna be unacceptable to the Margolises of the world. And that’s OK… all Obama needs is 50% plus 1. All he needs is 270 electoral votes.

One good thing about Reid, ironically, is the fact that rightwingers hate him. That means that we already know what lies and innuendos will be told about him. Also, his life story… his service in Vietnam, his service as a police officer, his Mormon faith… will belie the inevitable attacks that will be made him. His softspoken demeanour will also help him.

That said, I think he is an unlikely choice.

“Sounds like Obama is looking at retired military leaders for VP candidates.”

Most of these will be from the draft generation. Very few Democrats of military retirement age have actually volunteered for service (unless they volunteered for some other service before they were drafted by the army).

Harry Reid cannot hide his liberalism. Obama can hide it somewhat since his record has mostly “present” on his resume.

A Mormon? Wow, what if McCain chooses Romney also?

Right, now, not only do you have to be a soldier, but you have to volunteer. Being drafted means you are less of a patriot or some bull.

Have you no shame at all? How can you call yourself a patriot when your willing to spit on so many of your own countrymen who have fought valiantly and died for this country because they were drafted? But I guess wearing that lapel pin and hanging that flag outside your house every morning means you are hey…

Party before country. The sad part is it seems it is becoming ever more apparent as November approaches with the desperation shown in right wing blogs. You still cannot find anything ‘juicy’ in Obama’s past so now your all foaming at the mouth for who he will select as VP so you can dig up their dirty little secrets and connect it to his ‘judgment’. I fear it’s only a matter of time until someone comes out and drops the ‘n-bomb’. Either that, or when asked the question ‘why are you voting for McCain?’ someone will say ‘because he’s white’.

P.S. Your argument that blacks are racist too because 90% of them vote for Obama would hold water if black people did not vote for white people. But they have and they will again. This is the first time a black man has run for office, of course the black community is going to rally behind him, thats not racism it’s common sense. If for the next 100 years, the entire black community only votes black, then I would say you have a legitimate beef. However, you suggesting black people are racist for supporting the first black man to run for office, is like saying a small town is racist because 90% of them support their all white football team on Sundays.

  • 15. Kahn  |  June 10th, 2008 at 6:21 pm

Less than 16% of people serving in the military claim to be Democrat. less than that in the Army and Marines.

  • 16. Danish Artist  |  June 10th, 2008 at 11:55 pm

SAR, hitting the “herb” a little early I see.

Spitting on vets? Hardly. The only reason most (not all) democrat politicians (of retirement age) served in the military is because they were drafted and not because they volunteered. Those that “volunteered” did so because they did not want to go into the army - ala John Kerry.

How many liberal Democrats of retirement age volunteered? Not many - it is a simple observable fact that for some reason you have a hard time accepting - a little ashamed are we? So, put down your false outrage. I know who the true heroes are that were drafted and were willing to go and do the job that was asked of them and unfortunately those who were drafted and either didn’t go or went reluctantly and later became disgraces.

We can’t “find anything juicy” from Obama’s past because he has not been forthcoming in his explanations from various parts of his life and his acquaintances.

What racist statement did I make? Put the bong down and open a window it is clouding up the view of your computer screen. Or, you are simply hallucinating again.

Sadly, the liberals for the past 8-28 years have placed party before country. You would know that by the foolish things they do to “thwart” the evil Republicans and other non-liberal types.

So SAR, you can’t really dispute what I have said there are those who serve because they want to (volunteer with pride) and those (not all) who serve because they HAD TO (drafted and served reluctantly).

    Reality - son.

  • 17. Some Assembly Required  |  June 11th, 2008 at 9:12 am

DA, I see only those who serve. Whether you volunteer or not makes no difference in my eyes. Whether you are Republican or Democrat, makes no difference in my eyes. These men and women are soldiers who are fighting for our freedoms. There were draft dodgers, just like there are volunteers that desert the army, and come home in disgrace. One is no more different then the other.

What I hold issue with is how divisive you are regarding service.

“The only reason most (not all) democrat politicians (of retirement age) served in the military is because they were drafted and not because they volunteered. Those that “volunteered” did so because they did not want to go into the army - ala John Kerry.”

Prime example here. Most democrats were drafted, the ones that were not, volunteered because they didn’t want into the army. Or, in other words, those that were not forced to go were ‘elitist’. Why were they ‘elitist’? because they were democrats. As I stated before, ‘Party before Country’, well in this case, Party before countrymen.

“Sadly, the liberals for the past 8-28 years have placed party before country. You would know that by the foolish things they do to “thwart” the evil Republicans and other non-liberal types.

DA, Iraq was a complete and total mistake. Everyone on the planet knows this aside from 25% of Americans. They knew this prior to the envasion. They knew the intelligence was formed to fit policy. The party lined up and pushed the war. People backed the party without thinking what damage it would do to the country. Anyone who spoke out against the war was not a republican and therefore was anti-American. Open your eyes ’son’ and turn off fox news.

How much of the global population do 25% of Americans make? Thats reality.

Spoken like a true national socialist, DA. You are so bent out of shape that the American people are going to elect a black man President and that he iis a member of the Democratic Party that you are risking your lifestyle by almost speaking your mind.

And that is the true frustration of being you these days is it not? The fact that if you say what is in your heart the Man can come and take all your toys away from you???

    pain,

    socialist?

You must be smoking the same “herb” as SAR, because I made no such comment about being afraid of a black man for President.

Also, Democrats lined up and voted for Iraq, said the same things before 9/11 how dangerous Saddam and his WMDs were. They did so for political expediency and dumped it as soon as they could.

You claim to deal in facts and yet you too, post BULLSHIT!

Go back to your fictional hell playground. You contribute nothing here.

Republican Killer (alert the Secret Service) you must be an authority on shit, you see it every time you clean your ears.

    Get a life loser.

DA, Anyone (democrat or republican) who spoke out against the war was immediately discredited and saw their career come to a screeching halt. Care to try again?

  • 25. Danish Artist  |  June 13th, 2008 at 6:23 am

“Anyone (democrat or republican) who spoke out against the war was immediately discredited and saw their career come to a screeching halt. Care to try again?”

    Oh, is Kerry gone?

    Murtha?

OBAMA IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT! Or is he gone?

Just to name a few, did their career’s come to a screeching halt?

    Hardly.

Go ahead take another hit. Or stop, sober up before making another lame attempt.
