Tim Russert, RIP
by Mark Noonan on June 13th, 2008 at 03:49pm
Only 58 years old - my best memory of him, actually, is a time he was interviewed by Rush Limbaugh about his biographical book about his dad, Big Russ and Me. Political differences aside, Russert came across as a very kind person who loved his dad very much.
May God bless Russert’s family and comfort them in this time of grief.
For none of us lives in himself, and none dies to himself; for if we live, we live to the Lord, or if we die, we die to the Lord.
Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and rose again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. - Romans 14:7-9
UPDATE: President Bush’s statement:
Laura and I are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Tim Russert. Those of us who knew and worked with Tim, his many friends, and the millions of Americans who loyally followed his career on the air will all miss him.
As the longest-serving host of the longest-running program in the history of television, he was an institution in both news and politics for more than two decades. Tim was a tough and hardworking newsman. He was always well-informed and thorough in his interviews. And he was as gregarious off the set as he was prepared on it.
Most important, Tim was a proud son and father, and Laura and I offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Maureen, his son Luke, and the entire Russert family. We will keep them in our prayers.
UPDATE, by Matt Margolis: I post my own Russert story here.
UPDATE: Rush Limbaugh comments over at Radio Equalizer:
“It’s just a shame,” Limbaugh told your Radio Equalizer just moments ago. “Tim was a regular guy with that perpetual smile he wore naturally all the time. He loved life and got everything he could out of it.
“He was the closest thing there was at any of the networks to an objective journalist.
“Whether it was at dinner here in Florida while his son was taking golf lessons, or on the set of Meet The Press, Tim was always the same with me: genuine. He never condescended to anyone and was the consummate professional. He will be hard to replace,” Limbaugh added.

I too am saddened by the untimely passing of Tim Russert. His fair and equal treatment of the issues will be sorely missed in an increasingly partisan news environment.
And even as we mourn his passing, I am puzzled by the NBC Evening News coverage broadcast as I type this coment. They’ve been reminiscing about Tim for 20 minutes of the 30-minute broadcast and show no sign of letting up. Did nothing else significant happen in the world today?
As much a stalwart member of the NBC staff as he was, he was not a head of state, important religious figure or a leading business innovator. He was an analyst and reporter of the news, not a newsmaker. I think Tim himself would be embarassed by the fuss.
Requiem in pace, Tim. We will keep your family in our prayers.

Too damn young to go out like that.

This is a sad time. My heart and prayers go out to his family for their loss. From what I hear there was very little more that he could have done to prevent his death - and that is even more sad.
As for NBC - what did you expect, a member of the family, and a very beloved one at that, died without any warning. It is hard to follow what else has happened when some one dies so suddenly.

I am a little amazed at the lack of response from liberals. And the one that does chime in, chastizes NBC for devoting too much air time to Tim.
Unbelievable. This truly does show that they harbor very little compassion to their fellow Americans and are much more obsessed with their selfish, myopic, self destructive agenda.
No time to think about others. It’s all about them and their agenda. Pathetic.

I always admired his candor and willingness to let someone flesh out their beliefs and views rather than paying the rote ‘gotcha” game. terra has lost a class act in Mr Russert and there shall not be another of his measure for many years.

What a fitting tribute from a liberal.
“Well he wasn’t as bad as some of the others”
Thanks Cav.

What the F is “terra”??
FmrMarine,
It means Earth.
That’s all Cavalor and those type people believe in. They think they’re in charge of the earth and all that goes on. The thing is, they haven’t experienced the great awakening…..God help them when they do.
