Gallup: Americans Oppose Socialist Solutions

June 29th, 2008 at 06:17am Mark Noonan

Just a poll, of course, but as our lefties are convinced that a public opinion poll is a constitutionally valid means of determining government action, this pretty much knocks the wind out of their socialist sails:

When given a choice about how government should address the numerous economic difficulties facing today’s consumer, Americans overwhelmingly — by 84% to 13% — prefer that the government focus on improving overall economic conditions and the jobs situation in the United States as opposed to taking steps to distribute wealth more evenly among Americans.

Also noted in the poll is that 50% of Americans think that the government is trying to do too much - with 72% of Republicans holding this position, but only 36% of Democrats on board. Essentially, the general American distrust of government continues strong and this, in turn, opens up the prospect of a well-structured GOP campaign to use market mechanisms to deal with problems in opposition to Obama and his Democrats’ top down, tax and spend boondoggles.

    Mark,

This is the type of poll which will be completely ignored by the leftist elitists as they are convinced that the masses are not smart enough to know what is good for them. Only the leftist elitist have this wisdom.

Freedom goes hand in hand with liberty. The DNC does not care so much about either.

    Mark,

Are you saying Americans still want America to be America?

    And Mark,

You can also say that 50% of the Citizens think the United States is not doing enough.

However I also know from the polls at the moment that the Citizens do not want a third term for george and team McBush.

  • 6. neocon  |  June 29th, 2008 at 9:52 am

Is George W Bush on the ballot? Because I think he will lose to McCain this time around. I can’t think of any other candidate currently on the ballot that has Americas best interests at heart.

So say hello to President McCain.

–However I also know from the polls at the moment that the Citizens do not want a third term for george and team McBush.

Shouldnt you be more concerned about whether or not the citizens of this country are willing to give Obama McChangey a first term?

    Magnum Stupidity,

The polls also show that they want us to drill for our own oil. The liberal democrats refuse. Obama refuses.

The liberals refuse to do anything about the price of oil/gas/food, the economy and every other indicator they want to tank, because they have an election to win.

Liberals again putting their special interests and the greed for power first before the “good of the nation”.

The Saudis have decided to increase their production to levels that would match the output from ANWR immediately after last weekend’s meeting of producers and consumers and the price of oil on the NYMEX still rose. Can you explain this in terms of being somehow a Liberal conspiracy?

This poll also showed as the Gallup pollsters mention that a deeper slice needs to be cut out to see how people in the $ 200K+ demographic feel about redistribution of wealth via taxation. The majority of middle and lower class Americans feel the wealthy do not pay enough in taxes.

It is not a general distrust of the government it is a distrust of the mechanism used to allow for the redistribution. As Gallup points out the stimulus checks were a redistribution of wealth and We havenot heard of any of them being sent back because the upper income tiers did not qualify.

  • 10. neocon  |  June 29th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

    Pain,

It has never been suggested by conservatives that drilling in ANWR will immediately impact oil prices nor is it the answer to all of our problems. It has only been suggested as one resource of domestic crude. So your preceeding screed is just a liberal strawman.

The rest of your socialist drivel just doesn’t resonate with most Americans, despite this Gallup poll who sampled 1,000 people, out of anation of 350 million.

What you fail to understand, is that Obamas tax ploicy targets the small business owners who are the backbone of small town communities everywhere. The more taxes you apply on them, the fewer jobs they create. I know you don’t understand that, which is completely understandable considering you are a Shi’ite. I mean look your innovative societies. Are you still using the abacus?

    I guarantee a McCain win.
    have a nice day

    From the Daily Brimstone:

“Pain is a living computer, created on the planet Marheep in the Alcyone system one hundred five years ago by the brilliant scientist Gota Wasdini. Pain is made up of several hundred billion [and growing] razor sharp three to five centimeter long gumdrop tori each of which is a supercomputing platform in its own right. Pain serves Hell in many capacities most notably as Majordomo of Hell and Terra is the consort of the Empress as well as being the Commander in Chief of the Hellac Imperial Forces and holding the sole distinction of being the Slayer of Shai?tan. Currently the Majordomo is in its first trimester of pregnancy with the first crown prince or princess.”

Wow, Pain you have a real grasp of reality.

First, “Conspiracy” is not the word I used. Where is the promised legislation by Pelosi & Friends from 2006, for a common sense approach to lower the price of oil/gas? They never proposed anything!

Second, If OPEC increases production and ANWR supplements that increase as well - it is a win win situation, except for the environmentalists and their bought politicians.

Obama promises taxes on said oil companies which will only be passed on to the consumer. Obama claims a gasoline tax holiday, which will have an immediate benefit of $0.25 or more per gallon, as a gimmick. The liberals complain about the price of gasoline, but propose NOTHING! That’s not a conspiracy theory - that’s the truth.

But a “computer” would only know and repeat what it has been programmed.

I’m so glad that we’re going into the election in the fall with Social Security fixed, the troops out of Iraq, and secure domestic energy sources all thanks to the Democrat controlled Congress.

If your choice was between Bush and Obama would you vote for a third Bush term?

  • 14. Socialism Leads To National Socialism  |  June 30th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

It starts out as dabling it a little socialist policy. It leads to government control of a few key industries. Taxes baloon and money runs out and then to control everything you are led into the communist or Nationalist Socialist hell.

Ok Ok Schwartz, how about between Obama and Napoleon? Same relevance.

No wind, no solar, no hydro, no nuclear, no coal, no oil. Does your care run on hope Fred? Will more taxes make your car go Fred?

    Everybody,

Please read post below this one, “Stuff White People Like” (Post #12 where I explain, as a conservative, I believe in the restoration of a vigorous federal system where everybody has a say on how to run things in their state. ) I think secular, and religious libs can live, not next to each other necessarily, but at least end their conflicts at state borders.
Let’s take McCains idea about letting states decide on whether to allow offshore drilling one step further.
Let the people with in the states, either as individual entities or as groups, take direct control over the oil reserves in their states.
The people of the several states could set up corporations to negotiate with the producers on a price for their oil, and the costs of transporting, refining, and distributing the petroleum products that come from their states.
If no producer can be found to meet a particular states requirements, let the state create it’s own production, refining, and distributing corp’s under the control of the states taxpayers.
Come on, folks, I’m serious. Let’s restore the federal system, and empower the people to
take back govt. in the several states. We pay taxes. Let’s get something some return on our investment.
    Let’s see where this leads.
Come on, who doesn’t want to tell the feds where to put their environmental studies when there’s work to be done building solar farms, or the oil co execs to put their excuses for gas being the price where it is at when refineries are running at 85% capacity.
Maybe there are different ways to achieve the same objective, and it is possible to unleash some creativity to reach some real solutions.
Who knows, we could end making money, while making things better.
