  1. Fark says:

The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

You read it right: tougher on the Democrat.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center.

@ Bias Media: I am from Germany, and I can assure you most people – meaning the vast majority – don’t give a shit about – what was that band called again? The way you put it, or rather the articles you link, people showed up for free food and a free concert. As if people around here were starving – just a quick reminder – Germany is not Darfur. And about those bands, and free concerts – you can go and see dozens of bands for free every day in Berlin – Ramon, or Reamon, or Reaper and whatever that other star was called normally don’t draw crowds in theses proportions.
You can twist this all you want, but people did show upp for Obama, not for some freakin band.

If the vote was in Germany and not the states the race would be over by now. Polls have Obama around 73% from what I know. We like Obama, we admire him, he stands for everything we admire about the states. And yes, I do know the vote is in fact in the states.

From what I have seen the media is more or less following Obama in hopes to grab that one big slip up. I think what’s troubling you folks more is that with all this extra coverage nothing of real substance has been found in Obama’s closet. Though with very little coverage (by comparison) McCain has a fair list of things which would certainly be damaging if they were to receive even a percentage of Obama’s coverage.

It seems as if the new straegy is to forget McCain is running and just focus on what kind of president Obama will be. Between that and claims he is ‘arrogant’ assuming he is already president. Is it really a wonder you repubilcans advocate for home schooling and to bring church back into the education system. Seems people educated that way are the only people who buy your non-sense.

My two sense, the media is not so much bias as they want to keep the race close and interesting. Kind of like big brother, though things maybe entirely lopsided, they edit it to give that suspense factor which keeps the viewer guessing. It appears as if actual journalism exists no more and we have GE, 20th Century Fox, Time Warner and others to thank for it. Gotta love the work Reagan did to allow corporations to become so large and set up monopoly’s creating some of the problems we find ourselves facing today.

You talk about media bias, it all begins with him.

Yes, it’s ridiculous. So is most of Fox. Fox is so bad it’s like a badly scripted sitcom at times. To be honest the only real American news programs I like or can stand to watch are Anderson Cooper’s and some PBS stuff. I get most of my news from reuters, BBC and foreign news agencies.

I can dig up a dozen right wing bias articles and instances too. The point is not that it’s done for one side more then the other, it’s that it’s done for both sides. Real journalism does not exist in mainstream media. As i referenced in my post above, there will always be a bias in news as long as they are owned by corporate interests. Medical scare pieces run with pharmaceutical commercials. Terrorism plugs followed by campaign ad’s, etc. The news is just a seg-way for the commercial.

BM, what do you think about FOX or the Washington post?

  5. Bias media says:

    SAR-

    Here is one from Fox

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298307,00.html

I watched that debate, it is pretty much reporting it just like it was said. I don’t have cable so I don’t see anything more than 2, 4, and 7 which is Fox, MSNBC, and ABC. I DO see the corporate element you mention.

ABC and MSNBC have This mushy, sappy, lovefest for Obama. Hearing Chris Matthews talk about that warm fuzzy feeling he gets listening to Obama speak, and how chills shoot thru his body. That stuff sounds like porno, it is in bad taste, young kids shouldn’t be exposed to this immoral democrat propaganda, Its just too raw, for families to be exposed to.

  6. HeyHey says:

FOX,on the other hand, is known to alter transcripts on their website if it makes the Republican candidate look bad. CBS actually did the same thing recently. FOX also has a tradition that when a Republican is caught up in a scandal, they tend to put a (D) next to their name. Fair and Balanced indeed.

    BM,

I myself do not watch much tv anymore. Most of my news I read from online websites. One I have gotten into lately is http://www.fark.com. It’s primarily a third party news site that links to weird news from all over the world. Great for kicks.

I agree that as a journalist Matthews never should have stated such an opinion on air. The whole point of journalism is to leave personal feelings and emotions out of play and to remain as objective as possible. What he did was unprofessional and can most certainly be misconstrued as propaganda.

I take it you would also agree that Bill O’reily is not something families should be exposed to either. Though he is not pornographic, his show is nothing but pompous hate speech. He treats his guests as if they are children and has no shame. (I’m a little bias towards him. I see him and people like him as part of the reason why we are having problems with moral relativity)

That said, Obama’s speeches are very powerful and inspiring. Listening to some I myself have felt like I have been witnessing a big part of history in the making. It’s a fairly incredible feeling. But, it’s just a speech. I support Obama because I believe he is the man who we need at this point in time. We need world opinion in our favor. We need to pull out of Iraq and we need to rebuild our infrastructure. I believe Obama is the best man to do this. Recently I have become increasingly more aware of this because of McCain. His policies are now changing towards Obama’s. That in itself tells me something. People can spin all they want, but for a man with little experience, his plans seem to be the smartest and best to enact. One thing is for sure, ‘Republicans’ are completely and totally desperate. In the past couple of weeks their hypocrisy which is normally fairly subtle has been blunt and in your face, to the point where even grade school children can see it.

  9. Some Assembly Required says:

BM, just some friendly advice, when speaking of media bias, right wing blog articles are anything but credible sources to prove your point. I mean, would you give anything from moveOn of Dailykos as second thought if it was used as a source?

  10. Jeremiah says:

    Bias Media,

You forgot PBS feature programs that favor evolution and anti-Christian material in general.
There’s a new program coming election month the 18th of November on PBS called “The buried secrets of the Bible.” or something like that……it is decidedly atheist in nature and people should know especially Christians that their tax dollars are helping to support such a mockery and lies.

  11. Some Assembly Required says:

    Jeremiah,

That would classify under freedom of speech, not bias. The same scientific process they will use regarding the bible and evolution was also used to create the computer your typing on, the car you drive, the stove you cook with. If your attempting to call that bias, you really do need your head examined.

Bill Mahr is in the new documentary Religulous, check out the trailer if you have the kahon’s

  12. Bias media says:

    SAR-

With no cable, I only get Fox 2 local news, it doesn’t have Bill’o Reilly, Sean Hannity on it, I’ve never seen the show.

Obama stole the idea for rebuilding infrastructure from Mike Huckabee, from the debate at the Reagan library in California. I followed the Huckabee campaign real closely, we were all disgusted to watch Obama rip off his ideas a few days later. At that time Obama ideas pretty much only consisted of “hope and change”.

I’ll take your friendly advice and stop posting links, and call it a day. Take it easy SAR

  13. Jeremiah says:

    SAR,

I take things as I see them. Public broadcasting, just as most Media outlets air programs on whatever way they feel compelled as their convictions – politically speaking, they lean decidedly extreme liberal or far left, with Atheist connotations. At the same time, 15 – 20% of the federal budget goes to support their deceptions as well as state and local dollars and private donations likewise, most likely from organizations such as American Atheists association I would imagine who seek to destroy the message of Christ. Nova being their main outlet of atheist humanist propaganda.

So, anything you say SAR is pretty much obsolete in trying to convince me of your propaganda, because it is of no value whatsoever.
    But thanks for playing.

  14. Jeremiah says:

    Bias Media,

I suspect that you and I are pretty much on the same lines….IMHO, Huckabee was the only good man in the race, it’s just really a shame that the Media and other groups waged a campaign of hatred against him. It really shows how the liberalism in our schools of the past several generations has led us to the point we are, and the message that I will continue to drive home….’The children are where it all starts’. Unless something is done to get some morals back in school, this country is going to hurt in the future.

You Dems make me laugh. Hey Hey you are quite a conspiracy theorist. Makes me want to confess to you that I know where Hoffa is and who shot JFK.

It’s been so long since I’ve had basic cable I have no idea what comes on what channels anymore. Though I will say you are better off that you do not get those shows.

I did not start following the republican candidate until McCain became the nominee. I was frankly turned off at the mere fact that Rudy 9/11 was even running to pay any attention to it. I have been following Obama since Iowa and his website offered pretty much the same basic principles for healthcare and the economy as they do now. As I said I did not follow the republican side so I cannot speak to what huckabee proposed. Saying that, I did like Ron Paul.

    15. Jeremiah | July 30th, 2008 at 4:19 pm

15 – 20% of the bugdet on PBS and their deceptions, you have got to be kidding me. I really would love to know where your getting that information. Then you go on a rant about NOVA. You do know that program covers a wide variety of scientific issues. It doesn’t focus entirely on religion. It’s used in classrooms and for lectures throughout schools in the US and Canada. I’m not trying to convince you of anything, your way beyond that. I’m just trying to show rational people how f%$#ed up you are.

NOVA uses the scientific method, the same method used for engineering. You call it propaganda but if it wasn’t for this propaganda, you would not be typing on your computer in your heated home or be able to travel by plane train or automobile whenever your heart desires.

Wild guess, you think the world was created 6000 years ago and dinosaurs are a hoax planted by god to fool mankind right.

  18. js says:

when you get down to the brass tacks….the media in russia did the same thing for putin and his kgb buddies in thier last election…the corruption and failure of the media to provide equal coverage to both candidates is a breach of public trust in those institutions….and can be directly attributed to soros and those like him who buy up and create huge conglomerates and manipulate them to unfairly influence young and old alike by omitting opposing coverage…

  19. Stingray says:

McCain supporters are starting to sound like the jilted bride with this Obama love crap. Grow a set!

  20. js says:

its takes a set to tell the truth…and if ya stand the truth…that makes you a liar too…and if ya love that…youshould move to russia…putin loves stooges…
