Global Warming Update

August 10th, 2008 at 01:48am Mark Noonan

Al Gore’s new boat - the B.S. One:

But the question persists as to whether he (Gore) actually buys into what he is selling. His own behavior clearly indicates that he doesn’t believe we are at a “tipping point” of worldwide environmental destruction. While he preaches that the rest of us must dramatically change our lifestyles and lower our standards of living to “save the planet” he lives by another set of rules himself.

It happens in the air, where he jets about in private planes that consume massive amounts of energy to spread his message of “conservation.”

His hypocrisy is revealed on land, where he travels in fleets of limos and SUVs to deliver speeches about the dire consequences of ignoring “man-made global warming” — and leaves the cars running throughout his entire speech in order to ensure that they will be nice and cool when he exits the building and returns to his gas-guzzling vehicles.

His supposedly “green” mansion consumes electricity that dwarfs the consumption of the typical family home.

And now, in order to complete his hypocrisy trifecta, Al Gore may now be extending his excessive consumption to the water as well. In an amazing display of conspicuous consumption, even for Al Gore, his new 100-foot houseboat that docks at the Hurricane Marina in Smithville, Tennessee is creating a critical buzz among many of his former congressional constituents. Dubbed “Bio-Solar One,” which may reflect some latent Air Force One envy, Gore has proudly strutted the small-town dock claiming that his monstrous houseboat is environmentally friendly. (Only Al Gore would name his boat B.S. One and not get the joke. Or perhaps the joke is on us?)

There really is a sucker born every five minutes and these days they are easily identifiable - they are all leftwingers.

Doesn’t this guy know by now that everytime he does something like this he’s going to be mocked and ridiculed. Maybe he just doesn’t care.

“Doesn’t this guy know by now that everytime he does something like this he’s going to be mocked and ridiculed. Maybe he just doesn’t care.”

Any kind of media attention to feed his ego will do.

I wonder how much he pays himself for carbon credits on this one?

  • 5. SEW  |  August 10th, 2008 at 10:00 am

At least it operates on biofuel, which is not available at the lake. Al and his group of friends should be able to produce their own biofuel while on board. They should rename it SYMBIOSIS.

As has been repeatedly pointed out by those interested in the truth of this issue (and repeatedly ignored by those interested in nothing but partisanship), the resaon Al Gore’s electricity bill for his home is so high is that the bulk of his energy is generated from carbon neutral, environmentally beneficial sources. This form of energy is much more expensive than regular electricity and thus Gore is in fact generously helping to subsidize the development of clean energy industries in America. Gore also purchases carbon-credits to allay any non-renewable energy used in his home. But that doesn’t matter to republican partisans who would rather risk a global catastrophe than give up the chance to mock their political opponents by repeating allegations that have been repeatedly shown to be lies. Says a lot about your priorities.

Nice sequence of links to partisan and industry funded websites fmrmarine. Very credible.

If those are the sources you get your data from then I’m not surprised that you hold such boneheaded views.

  • 10. ho-hum  |  August 10th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Also, great use of ridiculous straw man arguments (the desperate right wing partisan’s favorite technique). Who said that Europe, China, India etc. should not also participate in combatting global warming. Nobody I know. Pathetic arguments on your part I must say.

Great use of ALL CAPS!! in your posts though, always the sign of a balanced mind.

  • 11. Danish Artist  |  August 10th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

Who said that China and India should not also participate in combating global warming?

    Nobody you know?

    How about the Kyoto Accords!

They are developing counties and are exempt from the restrictions to be put in place by those accords.

I cannot understand how a leftist such as yourself cannot remember the talking points of criticizing Bush for not accepting the Kyoto accords, the same accords that Clinton did not accept!

Typical leftist tactic. HO come back when you have some intelligence, if you’re lucky you can return in the next 50 years.

  • 12. ho-hum  |  August 10th, 2008 at 10:09 pm

Not ture, Danish Artist. For reasons that should be obvious to anyone other than an idiot it was decided at the times of Kyoto’s implementation (over a decade ago) to exclude developing countries from being forced to reduce their emissions. This was done due to the fact that their economies were too fragile at that time to be able to shoulder the brunt of reogranization while also recognizing the reality that the per-capita emissions rate of developing countries such as India is a tiny fraction of those of the west (the USA does of course lead in terms of carbon emissions). At the same time incentives were put in place (in the form of carbon trading) to encourage developing nations to go green while also leaving the road open in future versions of Kyoto to enforce the same restrictions on these nations as more developed economies agreed to. Put simply, it was felt that since these countries hadn’t been pumping out carbon in vast quantities for the last hundred years as USA and Europe have that they should be given time to modernize.

FmrMarine made the ridiculous claim above that Europe, Japan etc aren’t asked to do anything to better the environment. Since Japan and almost all European countries were signatures of Kyoto from day one that simply isn’t true.

But hey, I understand it’s easy to spread simplified rhetoric making this out to be a blame-america-first issue instead of a matter of a global problem that requires a global solution. It would be hoped by any reasonable person that America would show some leadership in this issue.

    ho-hum,
That is a ridiculous argument. Over the past 7 years we have lead the world into unnecessary, unjust wars.

    Now,
Regarding global warming, since there has been a concerted effort to try to discredit global warming, I think it is a stronger position to argue from a sustainability position. As you are probably aware, the United States uses a disproportionate amount of the world’s resources. As other countries catch up with us on consumption, there will not be enough. So, it is imperative that we rework the way our society is organized. That includes the way we transport goods to the point of consumption, which will in turn reduce the amount of energy needed to support our lifestyle and reduce the amount of pollution we generate. If the side effect is lower greenhouse emissions, so be it. By reducing our demand for the world’s resources, there will be more for everyone, thereby less potential for conflict and greater security for all countries including ours.

FmrMarine, you are of course, dead on target!

Now for some “sad” news…..we all should just live it up. Make these the happiest times because, there is nothing we can do to stop global warming. We should all just prepare for the end.

    HOhummer,

talk about lack of common sense:

“the resaon Al Gore’s electricity bill for his home is so high is that the bulk of his energy is generated from carbon neutral, environmentally beneficial sources. This form of energy is much more expensive than regular electricity and thus Gore is in fact generously helping to subsidize the development of clean energy industries in America. Gore also purchases carbon-credits to allay any non-renewable energy used in his home.”

Shows you that the liberal pie in the sky solutions are less efficient. Where are we going to get the real estate to place the environmentally friendly power generators, to grow the bio-fuel, etc. etc???

We CANNOT get adequate space for solar stations and will mill farms NOW!

Generously? HA! He pays HIMSELF for the carbon credits!

It has been shown and written on extensively that Bush’s ranch in Crawford, TX is MORE GREEN, MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY than Al Gore’s!!!

But, when you are a leftist hack, swallow the leftists talking points, guzzle the leftist kool-aid and cannot think for yourself, you will regurgitate anything these leftists spoon feed you.

Can you now wait 100 years to intelligently post something on this blog or is it a lost cause???

    Definitely the latter.

I wonder if Danish Artist has been to Denmark? It’s a neoconservative dream. Clean streets, friendly people, very little crime or homelessness.

That’s all because they tax the living heck out the public. I crossed a toll bridge there once, it was $32.00 in 1990s era US dollars (remember those?).

Many Danish Artists are anarchists and homosexuals. The state sponsors their work.

  • 25. Danish Artist  |  August 15th, 2008 at 6:14 am

pansy? with a name like that you are an anarchist homo.

What was your point besides gross insults?

32 bucks to cross a bridge? wow, give me your wallet because I said so!

    Pathetic.
