Imagine…

August 14th, 2008 at 11:39pm Leo Pusateri

With a major Presidential hopeful openly pining for one-world socialism, and the prospect of encroaching socialism moving ever more mainstream, it would appear that John Lennon’s dream in his protest song, Imagine, is much closer to fruition this day and age.

So, with conservatism becoming the new counter-culture, I offer a protest song for the 21st century.

Imagine, for the 21st Century (without apology to John Lennon)

Imagine there’re no Liberals
It’s easy if you try
No welfare state to enslave us
Or taxing us to the sky…
Imagine all the people
Keeping their own wealth…

Imagine we have a country…
It isn’t hard to do
One that we’ll defend and die for..
And secure our borders, too
Imagine all the people
Living life secure…

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And our nation will be as one.

Imagine no class envy…
I wonder if you can
Opportunity for everyone..
From fetus unto man
Imagine all the people
Living the American Dream.. ah-haaa-ah!

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll be conservative
And our nation will live as one.

Well done, Leo. I think this highlights the fact that the struggle in this country is more between Liberals and Conservatives than between Republicans and Democrats. As many of us on both sides have lamented, the traditional battle lines between the GOP and the party of the Jackass have become somewhat blurred of late. If there was ever a time when the atmosphere was ripe for either a resurgence of Reaganism or a strong third party, it’s now. I think the Reagan coalition still exists — a solid 60% of the electorate in this country who espouse respect for the sanctity of life, low taxes, peace through strength, progress in areas of energy, environment and medical science, while, at the same time, supporting principles of smaller, more efficient, less intrusive government coupled with personal responsibility and philanthropy. Those used to be the things that defined the GOP, but, sadly, in the last 10 or 12 years, Republicans have largely lost their way, particularly at the national level. There are still a few seeds of the old crop left, guys like Indiana Congressman Mike Pence and Arizona Congressman John Shadegg, and hopefully there are more waiting in the wings.

This fall’s election could well be a watershed event in American political history. Had the Democrats spent the last two years doing everything possible to live up to their campaign promises from 2006, I would have bet on them achieving near veto-proof majorities in both houses as well as winning the White House. Instead they’ve shown that the only things they’re really for are larger, more intrusive government, $4.00/gallon gas and opposing anything and everything Republican. This has to be, without a doubt, the WORST Congress with the WORST leadership in my lifetime, a fact that is reflected in their abysmal approval rating.

Only 81 days left, and then America speaks. I have a gut feeling that Tuesday, November 4th is going to be a day of surprises.

After Dems sweep Congress and the WH in November, and after they convert America into a liberal, socialist, communist country like you all fear, and when you all move out and settle someplace else on an island somewhere, THEN you can have the Repuiblican utopia you like to sing and dream about.

    good riddence and please hurry.

  • 13. js  |  August 15th, 2008 at 9:06 am

    yup

and thats about all the dems should be doing in congress and the wh in november

make sure that they take the mop bucket too…no reason not to make the lout’s finish the job right….

Although I agree with most of this parody, the first line “Imagine there’s no liberals” is highly unrealistic. Liberals are like cockroaches. They’re always trying to eat what others produce, and no matter how hard you try, you can NEVER get rid of them.

  • 15. Retired Spook  |  August 15th, 2008 at 9:19 am

The contributions from our resident Leftists on this thread is illustrative of why they and those who share their views cannot be allowed complete control of the levers of power.

“Links to 2 youtube videos about how the world is a terrible place and Bush is an idiot”

One was Bush cut to sing imagine, the other was Green Day (American Idiot, a good humored shot at Leo). I thought Green Day kind of spoke for itself in light of the parody of this thread. I mean come on, does anyone really take Green Day seriously? What was the video they made about the Iraq war? I think the plot was something like troops leave their loved ones, go to war, sometimes die and their loved ones get sad. Hey Leo, maybe you can write songs for Green day. Wake me up, when September ends.

Come on spook man, it’s alright for you fellas to have fun with it but not for someone who tends to be more liberal on social policies…

the reason you wont get rid of ALL the liberals in the world anytime soon, is because Jesus was a liberal.

    you can look it up.

In fact, he was a JEWISH, dark-skinned foreigner liberal who cared for poor and sick people.

When I mention that to my right-wing religeous fanatical friends, their heads usually explode.

Oh man! That was awesome! Totally sending out this link… Just indescribably good.

By the way, if we liberals could take all the blue states, and leave you with your red state nation you’d be left with the GNP of like a third-world country. The tax revenue from all us liberals keeps you geniuses afloat, but you still complain…

By the way, if we liberals could take all the blue states, and leave you with your red state nation you’d be left with the GNP of like a third-world country.

Spoken like a true, patriotic American, jayhay. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. The majority of Red-Staters I know, myself included, would love for jerks like you to secede and take your values (or lack thereof) and your tax rates with you. The rest of us will get alone just fine without you and be a lot happier in the process.

  • 24. jayhay  |  August 15th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Spook - It’s the complaining, calling half this country cockroaches, victimized whining and dragging us into massive debt with your fourth-grade foreign policy (meanwhile trying to tell everyone else what is a normal family, etc.) that makes us want to send you on a deep post-pattern for the pass that never comes.

If you acted like my half of this country wasn’t some disease, we’d be a bit happier about picking up the check year after year. There isn’t a battle between liberals and conservatives, there’s a battle between conservatives and Republicans. I hope the conservatives win…

  • 26. Henry J.  |  August 15th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

You know, you’d think for a blog that wants to take itself at least semi-seriously even in its status quo of paranoid, alarmist rambling, you wouldn’t engage in what is basically something that wouldn’t be out of place on 4chan’s /b/, if that.

  • 27. Tremaine (  |  August 16th, 2008 at 1:00 am

The songs primary theme: If everyone didn’t help support each other, the country would be a better place. Quite frankly, that’s a bit silly. How do you expect people to have enough faith in a country to defend it when they can’t even keep afloat? A certain degree of socialism is necessary to keep the country afloat. Your ideas seem similar to some short hand versions of Rand’s work, only more skewed to your idea of conservatism.

I’m so much of a coward that I actually sign my name to my posts, unlike you.

To call you pathetic wouldn’t even do justice in describing your depravity, troll.

And unlike you, I actually have a life, and am not here nor on the internet 24/7.

And respond to what? To a waste of bandwidth like you?

    I don’t think so.
