A Catholic Moment McCain LEADS Obama in Gallup Daily Poll

Obama Fears the Ayers Connection

August 26th, 2008 at 09:30am Mark Noonan

Uh, Senator, you’re actually just drawing attention to the issue:

Barack Obama has launched an all-out effort to block a Republican billionaire’s efforts to tie him to domestic and foreign terrorists in a wave of negative television ads.

Obama’s campaign has written the Department of Justice demanding a criminal investigation of the “American Issues Project,” the vehicle through which Dallas investor Harold Simmons is financing the advertisements. The Obama campaign — and tens of thousands of supporters — also is pressuring television networks and affiliates to reject the ads. The effort has met with some success: CNN and Fox News are not airing the attacks.

Obama has also launched his own response ad, directly addressing Simmons’ attempt to link him to domestic terror.

The project is “a knowing and willful attempt to violate the strictures of federal election law,” Obama general counsel Bob Bauer wrote to Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Keeney last week in a letter provided to Politico. Bauer argued that by advocating Obama’s defeat, the ad should be subject to the contribution limits of federal campaign law, not the anything-goes regime of issue advocacy.

Bauer’s letter called on the Justice Department to open “an investigation of the American Issues Project; its officers and directors; and its anonymous donors, whoever they may be.”

“This is a sad ploy to circumvent the First Amendment by a campaign who has no arguments with the merits of our ad. It’s the classic maneuver: If you can’t win on the merits, file a lawsuit,” said a spokesman for the American Issues Project, Christian Pinkston, who said his group’s non-profit status allowed it to participate in elections as long as it does a majority of policy work, which it plans to do.

A spokeswoman for Keeney, Laura Sweeney, declined to comment on Bauer’s letter.

The Obama campaign plans to punish the stations that air the ad financially, an Obama aide said, organizing his supporters to target the stations that air it and their advertisers.

You can see the ad here - its not terribly effective, but it does open up the can of worms Obama would rather keep closed: His ties to radical leftism. Its seems that Jeremiah Wright is just the tip of a kook left iceberg in Obama’s background.

Now, is Obama a wanna-be terrorist? Of course not - first off, he’s not of that generation. He’s of my generation, and we don’t tend to blow things up. If there were “60’s radicals”, we’re more “70’s stoners”, and didn’t have the oomph to go do much of anything. The downside to all this is that a lot of us also didn’t bestir ourselves to really learn about the past. I, on the other hand, did (there was a small upside to being bad at sports and a complete flop with chicks) - and even a cursory examination of 60’s radicals - like Ayers - convinces the knowing to steer clear of them. What profit is there is talking to a man who is unrepentant about the monumentally stupid idea of trying to change American policy via a terrorist bombing campaign? Obama isn’t a stupid man, so the presumption must be that he simply didn’t know, or at least didn’t know enough to draw the proper conclusions. To Obama, Ayers probably seemed well meaning - just as all too many dimbulb kids these days put on Che t-shirts because he seems romantic, and well meaning. As the kids today are unaware of Che’s brutal murders, so Obama is unaware (or only dimly aware) of just what Ayers and his cohorts were up to.

Why is this a problem? Because a man who hasn’t figured out that Ayers is persona-non-grata in decent society isn’t a man who can properly judge persons and proposals. If a screwball like Ayers can seem reasonable to Obama, then any kook out there can seem reasonable. While Obama has stepped out of the leftwing coocoon far enough to understand that people like Wright and Ayers have to be kept at arms length, he still hasn’t figured out that the whole leftwing project - ie, Obama’s whole worldview - is flawed and prone to such things as racist rants and terrorist bombs. Obama has some smarts, and our prayer should be that he’ll figure it out - but I don’t want him trying to figure it out while, during a tense moment with Iran, he’s got Sensible Advisor locked in battle with Nutty Leftist Advisor, and Obama unable to determine which one has it right.

Why is it the backers of the Republican Party stoop to such dirty, scummy, disgusting tactics to win an election? It has become the trademark of this party and has turned off so many people. Can it not win an election on the issues? Apparently not. This is an every four years event within the Republican Party - the dirtier and nastier they can get the better their supporters who relish with this kind of advertising. And I thought this was the “values issues” party. Only when they can trick the not to well educated to vote with them with their scare tactics. For most of my adult like I was a registered Republican but I find this kind of behavior so disgusting I cannot belong to a party that has to take such an approach to win. And everyone who supports this kind of behavior needs to ask themselves if this is really the way to win and election. This is the Karl Rove Swiftboating tacticts. Where are your Christian roots and beliefs when you can support such behavior?

  • 2. SEW  |  August 26th, 2008 at 10:33 am

Obama’s campaign also called attention to his Rezko connection by using the 7 houses issue. Rezko sleaze trumphs owning 7 houses. Karl Rove, you magnificant …. The Ayers attention is even more damaging.

  • 3. Sunny  |  August 26th, 2008 at 10:59 am

Obama has not been charged with any wrong doing in the purchase of his home. This type of slime just opens the door to McCain’s dealings with Keating. Neither had any charges of wrong doing. As to Ayers - grow up. Obama was a child when Ayers committed his acts. If this is the best you can do, you need to get a new hobby. As to the seven houses, that was not brought up as doing something wrong, merely to show that John McCain is not in touch with nor understand what the average working family deals with everyday. When you are claiming that someone is an elitist, you need to check your own closet first to make sure you have the standing to make such a claim. John McCain grew up with his father and grandfather admirals, got a prestigious military education due to his heritage (graduating 5th from the bottom of his class) and married well. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t be throwing stones when you live in a glass house. Obama’s one home does not begin to compare with the homes owned by Senator McCain and his wife. Further more, the Obama’s bought and paid for their home with their own earnings. So give this nonsense a break. Really, enough already.

I could give no better response to Republican slime politics, where McCain never has to answer why he voted 95% of the time with Bush, than that so eloquently stated by IKE’s granddaughter!

    By Susan Eisenhower:
I have decided I can no longer be a registered Republican. For the first time in my life I announced my support for a Democratic candidate for the presidency, in February of this year. …….
My decision came at the end of last week when it was demonstrated to the nation that McCain and this Bush White House have learned little in the last five years. They mishandled what became a crisis in the Caucusus, and this has undermined U.S. national security. At the same time, the McCain camp appears to be comfortable with running an unworthy Karl Rove–style political campaign. Will the McCain operation, and its sponsors, do anything to win?

  • 5. SEW  |  August 26th, 2008 at 11:13 am

Yea, enough already. Or move on. Next..good luck. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Sleep with dogs, expect fleas. Obviously Obama and his cultists don’t want anything known about his friends. Sorry Barry. Finally, you don’t dictate the rules.

SEW, this is the kind of slime you relish in even when there is no truth to the rumors. That says a lot about your character. Please stay with the Republican Party. You do not have the character and moral authority to stand with those who deplore this kind of character assassination.

Thrower and Sunny- What exactly is untrue in these ads and these connections with Ayers? Are you saying Ayers was not a member of the Undeground or are you saying Obama is not connected with him? Obama clearly worked with, and is clearly friends with him. Please tell us what the rumors are, and what your truth about them is.

So the left is prone to violence… that’s freaking rich…

You guys haven’t met a war you didn’t want to dive headfirst into, you love you some death row, you scream if someone wants to limit access to assault weapons and god knows what other military grade weaponry, and every other violent outlet all the way to the GD WWF, and it’s the left that’s violent?

And P.S., McCain’s pledge to keep the campaign clean was a crock. He’ll do anything to pursue his principle-free ambition to get to the White House he talked about in his book. Republicans and slime - but oh it’s those violent hippies, that’s our problem…

  • 9. hermie  |  August 26th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

An unrepentant Ayers, who was part of a violent, murderous group, is someone I would want to stay clear of … not embrace him and ally myself politically.

  • 11. Sunny  |  August 26th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Rich, exactly what does Ayers 60s acts have to do with Obama? The fact that he knows Ayers does not mean that Obama endorses what Ayers did 40 years ago - when Obama was about 7 years old. It is my understanding that Ayers teaches at the U. of Chicago as did Obama and lives in the same area of Chicago. Apparently Ayers no longer beleive this type of behavior is how one goes about resolving problems. This is guilt by association which is so stupid. To the best of my knowledge Obama has NEVER adopted such actions. If anything he is opposed to violence and believes there are other methods in resolving issues. But hey, this is the Republican Party’s O.P. Slime and sleaze!

  • 18. David B. Schmidt  |  August 26th, 2008 at 1:52 pm

I didn’t realize Obama launched his political career when he was 7 or 8 years old because I understood he launched at the home of his good friend (pre- under the bus days) Ayers.

  • 19. Kurt  |  August 26th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

    Sunrunner,

The Ayers ad offends you for one simple reason, it is 100% true. Did Obama condem Ayers terrorist acts as a State Senator? Nope. As a U.S. Senate candidate? Nope. In his first years as a U.S.Senator where he worked in the same Capitol building that Ayers bombed? Nope.

Obama only condemed Ayers terrorist acts after he was caught associating with this punk. I live near Chicago and I can tell you that folks like William Ayers are like folk heros in Obama’s ultra liberal Hyde Park neighborhood. In fact these people see the William Ayers of the world as the real heros of the Vietnam war.

On the lighter side, lets finish with a joke:

    Q) What do Osama bin Laden and Barack Obama have in common?

    A) They both have a friend that bombed the Pentagon.

    Pretty funny, huh?

  • 20. Nevada Pundit  |  August 26th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

I love it when the dems always state that character has no bearing on the presidency. Of course it does. What shapes your character? Your previous life experiences, of which friends and associates play a major role. I seriously doubt that Obama and Ayres played many rounds of golf together down at the country club but Ayres did lead the “party” that got Obama’s political career going and they did serve on several of the same committees together. That has to hold with it some influence and considering Ayres past I think the people have a right to what kind of influence he may have had.

  • 21. The Earl of Leftwich  |  August 26th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

You wingers just don’t see the big picture. Those of us that support Obama do so for a variety of reasons, some of which, admittedly are self serving and some of which are actually quite altruistic.

For starters, he’s going to take big oil’s excessive profits and give each of us ordinary Americans $1,000. He’s going to tax the snot out of the top 2% and give the rest of us a tax cut. He’s going to get even with all the hedge fund managers making over a billion dollars each and getting filthy rich on the backs of the poor by doubling the capital gains tax. He’s also going to initiate reforms to get us completely off fossil fuels within 10 years, thus taking a huge step toward saving the planet.

Best of all, and I don’t see how anyone in their heart of hearts can disagree, he’s going to sit down with our enemies and engage in civilized diplomacy. By the end of his second term, I think there’s an excellent chance that war will be a thing of the past.

There are lots of other lesser reasons to support Obama, but I think I’ve probably spoken for most of the Democrats who post here as to the most important ones.

Unfortunately, Sunny, these dirty tactics seem to work with certain voters. Until the time comes when every voter sees these ads as just a desperate attempt by a political group devoid of a solid platform to win the ignoramus vote, we will continue to be bombarded by this type of garbage.

  • 23. Sunny  |  August 26th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

Actually, your memory sucks. I have never supported John Edwards. At this time I have not even decided who I will vote for come November. A vote for John McCain will depend on who he picks for vp. If he picks Leiberman - there is no way I will mark the box for McCain. I do take the time (an have an open mind) to listen to the candidates and not just judge them on the letter after their name. I will watch all of the debates to see which candidate most closely addresses the issues I find important. The one thing that concerns me most about McCain is his eagerness to go to war. However, I do believe he will be honest with the American public unlike the present administration. McCain’s greatest problem is his association with Bush.

I am not and have never defended Ayers or Rezko. However, just knowing someone or even serving on a board with someone does not mean that you endorse their policies or beliefs. However, that is what you want everyone to believe - that Obama believes in using violence in solving problems.

  • 24. Rich  |  August 26th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

The documents are coming out today. Let’s hope they have not been sanitized, but I have my doubts. I also note Sunny and Thrower have not shown us what is a lie or a smear about the Ayers allegation. I’ll ask again. Is it your belief that Ayers was not a terrorist member of the Weather Undeground or that Obama is not friends and did not work closely with him? The idea that he was just somone in the neighborhood is not going to cut it. P.S. Obama also said that their kids go to the same school, but last I checked they do not have chidlren that are anywhere near the same age. Anyone have better info on this?

    Earl,

How much money did the oil companies pay in taxes in 2007? And why do you believe you’re entitled to $1000 of their profits? Do you know how many employees the oil companies employ? And do you know how excessive taxation will affect the employees livlihood?

How do hedge fund managers make money off of the backs of the poor? Do poor people invest in the markets? How will doubling the capital gains taxes improve the economy? Can you tell me how increased capital gains taxes effects employment?

Do you remember Jimmy Carter and his attempt to engage in civilized diplomacy? Can you tell me how that turned out?

Just some things reasonable actually think through before getting caught up in the hype.

It’s a funny time to be making “radical leftism” an issue at a time when Red China just put on the most spectacular Olympics ever… not to mention at a time when Red China manufactures most of the stuff in our Big Box stores, has the world’s fastest-growing economy, and is even financing our endless war in Iraq by buying our debt. I am not saying China is better than us, and I am glad I don’t live there… but I do think that maybe, just maybe, we have something to learn from them. Maybe some aspects of “leftism” could be applied here.

(Western Europe, which is also by USA standards “socialist”, is also growing faster than we are.)

In any case, Obama is not a radical leftist… when he is elected, there will be very little change in the structure of the USA’s economy.

  • 29. Rana Quijotesca  |  August 26th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

… I always follow the post that makes liberal all look dumb…

Anyways… It’s pretty easy to play the guilt by association game. For example, John McCain defended the unlawful actions of the Reagan Administration during Iran-Contra–he even used Ollie North’s experience in Viet Nam to justify his breaking, not only the rules and regulations of the US military, but Federal Law…

In truth, the Ayers thing doesn’t bother me all that much. Using actions committed by an acquaintance 30 years ago to attack someone in the present strikes me as a way to merely shift the dialogue off of McCain’s ignorance of the economy and other issues and onto Obama’s associations.

If you want to talk about past actions and their reflection on character, how do you feel about the “family values” candidate cheating on his crippled wife (with whom he had children) with his current wife, who made him sign a prenuptual agreement because of her daddy’s fortune?

How does that reflect on Mr. McCain’s character?

  • 30. The Earl of Leftwich  |  August 26th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

How much money did the oil companies pay in taxes in 2007?

    not nearly enough.

And why do you believe you’re entitled to $1000 of their profits?

I drive a lot for my job. I spent about $3,000 more for gas in the last year compared to the previous year, so $1,000 doesn’t even begin to make up for it.

And do you know how excessive taxation will affect the employees livlihood?

I would hope it would force them to quit and go to work in an industry that wasn’t so obsessed with greed.

How will doubling the capital gains taxes improve the economy?

Actually, even Obama didn’t claim that it would be a positive economic move — only that it would be more fair, and “fair” is more important than money.

Do you remember Jimmy Carter and his attempt to engage in civilized diplomacy? Can you tell me how that turned out?

Come on, Bill Clinton wouldn’t have selected Carter to negotiate with the North Koreans if he wasn’t any good at it. History will show that Carter was a truly great president. A lot fewer American servicemen and women died on his watch.

That’s right EOGW, the redistribution of wealth will surely get your boy elected

Um, actually it will. 2% are going to pay while 98% are going to benefit. How does that not translate into a Democratic landslide in November?

Timothy Horrigan- You must be joking right? You do realize the Chinese used forced labor, forced relocation and poor construction standards to build for the Olympics don’t you? They didn’t exactly follow safety or health guidelines either. If you had paid attention to the actual venues, many of them were quite crude actually. Sure the opening ceremony looked great on tv with the cute lip synching girl (non-wonky tooth version 2.0) and the digitally enhanced fireworks, but if the U.S. hired somone like Peter Jackson to stagecraft the even in Chicago in 2012, we could blow china out of the water.

Yes, this is just another transparently absurd, guilt by association slander.

Yes, Barack lived in the same neighborhood as Ayers, they taught at the same school, and Barack knows him. And that’s about it. They are not good buddies, they don’t hang out together, share the same political philosophy, or have close political ties - or any other close ties.

An analogous slander would be to say Timothy McVeigh lived in Phoenix at one time, may have contributed to the McCain for Senate campaign, and McCain knew who McVeigh was… and then try to use these irrelevant tidbits to paint a distorted picture that McCain is somehow a close ally of Timothy McVeigh. It’s just so much ludicrous nonsense.

It’s not that Barack “fears the Ayers connection”, but that such a “connection” is non-existent. It’s called a falsehood. It’s also called libel.

And keep this in mind as well: although McCain has taken to the gutter in this campaign, even he would not go so low as to falsely imply that Obama and Ayers are close associates, or that Obama somehow supports Ayers. This dumb ad was not done by the McCain campaign - it was by an independent 520. Further, most networks have refused to air the ad - not because of politcal bias, but because they recognize unfounded smear and libel. And the Obama campaign will pursue legal charges.

Again, Obama is not John Kerry. I know a lot of Republicans are used to a Democrat who just rolls over and takes whatever cow dung slung at them. But sorry - that ain’t gonna happen this time around. Our candidate is going to fight these smears that have become routine campaign tactics from the Republicans these last few years, and we’re going to hit you hard.

So McCain should know that if he wants to continue down in the gutter where his Rove advisers have taken him, we’re more than willing to fight him there. And if McCain chooses to come up from the sewer and fight us on the issues, we’ll be even more pleased - because on the issues, we own your arses. It’s McCain’s choice.

“Um, actually it will. 2% are going to pay while 98% are going to benefit. How does that not translate into a Democratic landslide in November?”

This is pretzel logic at its finest.

“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 62% of voters would prefer fewer government services with lower taxes. Nearly a third (29%) disagrees and would rather have a bigger government with higher taxes. Ten percent (10%) are not sure”

Kinda blows away your theory…eh?? Kind of like those of us that were against the minmum wage hike. We knew it would increase the unemployment numbers, simply due to a reduction in small business profits….it’s all relative, you take away a company’s ability to be profitable and you can kiss their past altruistic beliefs goodbye. It’s a very simple formula.

So, do you believe in the redistribution of wealth or not, and when you finally break into that 2% range, will you still want to fund the 98%??

  • 42. navydad  |  August 26th, 2008 at 4:32 pm

ooohhh…I just get goosebumps running up my spine when posters like Gotbrains make statements like “Our candidate is going to fight these smears that have become routine campaign tactics from the Republicans these last few years, and we’re going to hit you hard.”

Riggghhhttt…it’s really worked for the dems in the past two Presidential elections…eh?

Good luck trying to convince a rational voter that Obama is the messiah of change.

Ya see kooks, we conservatives expect our candidates (whether we agree with them or not) to bust their opponent’s chops and make them look like pathetic little worms that are trying to play with the big boys. Well, Kerry, Edwards, Gore, and even Joe found that if you want to play with the big boys, you need to grow some juevos. Kinda like Theresa Heinz Kerry did….ooops, I forgot, she stole her husband’s…LOL!

Let me tell you how the big lie slime campaign works Rich. McCain 527s make the claim that Obama knows Ayers, Ayers was an advocate of domestic terrorism, therefore Obama supports terrorists. Two truths and one lie. How about a few more:

A McCain supporter calls Hillary Clinton “the bitch.” McCain smirks and chuckles. Therefore McCain hates women. Two truths and one lie. History would suggests McCain likes a lot of women.

McCain said Iraq and Pakistan share a border. They do not. McCain is a senile old fool who can’t even remember basic geography at his advanced age. A lie, a truth and a probable lie. But lies work as well as the truth in the short term and all campaigns are waged in the short term.

McCain sometimes takes Ambien to sleep. Ambien users are known to drive their cars without ever waking up. Therefore McCain can’t be trusted to get the 3:00 A.M. wake up call. A possible truth, a truth and a who knows.

This sort of garbage takes over campaigns, splits people apart and leaves us with leaders who are paralyzed because half of the country hates them. But I am coming to the conclusion that politics won’t be cleaned up until either both parties shun the tactics, or a third policy takes over the political middle. In the meantime, this is the campaign someone needs to run against McCain if they want to beat him.

Some days I wonder if these folks are for real or just “tongue in cheek”; however, most of them should go back to school and learn a thing or two.

Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist that founded a group (Weather Underground) that killed Americans and also his house was the place where Sen. Obama choose to launch his political career–no matter at all. All of a sudden, character takes a back seat. No matter about the FBI’s most wanted posters for him & his wife — all is forgiven

Some want the 2% that employ most of the other 98% to pay more — in reality, they would just fire or lay off enough to cover the loss of profits. Shareholders are the concern of most US corporations

Some think that taxing an 8% profit margin is wonderful while letting others make 300 and 400% profit is fine as long as you think like them. Ever wonder how much it costs to duplicate the same OS (operating System) over and over again but still charge top dollar for it? Before you cry subsides–think about laws enacted on behalf of corporation–same difference.

It is no wonder the Democrats never retain power for long–it take responsible people to clean up after their messes. Before you start claiming Pres. Bush is the worst ever and Pres. Clinton/ Carter is the best thing since sliced bread–take a minute and check history.

    Astoundingly, Earl wrote:

“For starters, he’s going to take big oil’s excessive profits and give each of us ordinary Americans $1,000.

Earl, sweetie, honey, babes..you actually believe that crap?

Just how is he going to “take” the excess profits? And what do you define as “excess”. Are you aware that oil company profit margins are around 7-8% or so? Consider this commentary from CNN, one of your trusted leftist outlets (i.e., not Fox):

Oil companies aren’t as profitable as you think.

I sometimes get the impression that people think oil executives hold clandestine meetings where they unilaterally decide to set the price of oil and gas in order to maximize their profits. After maniacally laughing about how they are gouging the American public, they then go swimming in pools of gold ala Scrooge McDuck.

But there’s a problem with that theory. Even though many oil companies are reporting record profits, many people forget just how expensive it is for energy companies to engage in the oil business.

The average net profit margin for the S&P Energy sector, according to figures from Thomson Baseline, is 9.7%. The average for the S&P 500 is 8.5%. So yes, energy companies are more profitable than many others…but not by an inordinate amount.

Google, for example, reported a net profit margin of 25% in its most recent quarter. Should we have an online advertising windfall profit tax?

So, Mr Messiah will ascend to his throne, decree that all oil companies will have money “taken from them” so he can engage in a governmental giveaway so poor, downtrodden Earl and all of the proletariat can get their $1,000 stipend.

The the evil oil-barons will meet in their secret star chamber room at Yale (they’re all members of the Skulls and Bones, of course, like the Bushes, don’t you know) and they will decree that they have to collude to raise prices yet again since they aren’t quite making their obscene 8% anymore.

So, you get in your car to drive down to the post office box where you expect to pick up your $1,000 from old B-uh-Rack Uh-Bama only to find that gas has gone up to $10 per gallon.

So your Messiah sees that the evil oil people have outflanked him and he decrees that Earl and the proles (catchy name for a rock group, don’t you think?) are now due $2,000..

..and the whole thing keeps going until the evil oil people decide to get out of the business to run Dairy Queens in Wichita (higher profit margins) or put their money in CDs at WAMU (higher return on their investment) and the only people left to sell you gas is some foreign company who gets theirs from the Saudis, Iran, or puss-bag-face in Venezuela.

Like Animal Mother said in Full Metal Jacket: “Flush out your head gear, new guy!”

Just the facts Neocon. I began my professional career as the chief of staff to a local politician. I got out because politics is phony (although my boss was not). He was a Republican.

I have only worked as a foot soldier in Republican campaigns. I have donated to both parties but in number and volume I have given Republicans more.

I think the California Democratic party is a disgrace and I don’t support Democrats here. The one exception was a Democratic assembly campaign (not in my district by the way) whose opponent made the entire campaign a slime job against her. It was so bad the Republican nominee never even mentioned his own name in his ads. I wrote her a big check.

I am socially a libertarian and fiscally a conservative. On the latter, Bill Clinton was head and shoulders above Bush. That’s the only good thing I have to say about anybody named Clinton. They have no deep personal commitment other than to themselves and their careers.

I loved the 2000 version of John McCain, but I don’t know who this new guy is. I won’t vote for him because he has thrown away his chances to have a somewhat unified country behind him if he win. Those are the wages of slime. I am probably going to donate fairly heavily this time around and it will likely be to a 527 willing to fight the Rove machine on its own terms.

I agree with you that JFK would hate this Democratic party, but no more than Eisenhower would hate today’s Republican party. They both suck, and you are too blind to admit it.

And finally, I think you are seething because you are. Why else insult people you dpon’t even know?

  • 65. neocon  |  August 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Rove is not a player in the current mcCain campaign but your obsession with him is noted. And I only insult the mindless, primarily because that is the main problem this country faces today. Too many stupid people.

A unified country is not a healthy country. N. Korea is unified, so let’s drop the histrionics about unifying this country. What’s needed is more educated dissent and sadly, your party offers none of that.

We agree to disagree, but anyone who can, with a straight face, vote for Obama is missing some gray matter.

    >>>Democrats: The Missing Years
    By Jeffrey Lord
    Published 8/12/2008 12:08:03 AM

    Missing: 52 years of history.

Ignored: The other 113 years that take the Democrats from their birth in 1800 to 1965.

As Democrats prepare to nominate Senator Barack Obama to be the first black president, the Democratic National Committee and its chairman Howard Dean have whitewashed the party’s horrific and lengthy record of racism. The omission is in the section of the DNC website that describes the party’s history. The missing history raises the obvious question of whether the Democrats, unable or simply unwilling to put their party on record as taking direct responsibility for one of the worst racial crimes of the ages, will be able to run a campaign free of the racial animosities it has regularly brought both to American presidential campaigns and American political and social life in general.

What else to make of the official party history as presented by the DNC on its website? It is a history so sanitized of historical reality it makes Stalin look like historian David McCullough.

The DNC website section labeled “Party History,” linked here, is in fact scrubbed clean of the not-so-little dirty secret that fueled Democrats’ political successes for over a century and a half and made American life a hell on earth for black Americans. Literally, the DNC official history, which begins with the creation of the party in 1800, gets to the creation of the DNC itself in 1848 and then…poof!…the next sentence says: “As the 19th Century came to a close, the American electorate changed more and more rapidly.” It quickly heads into a riff on poor immigrants coming to America.

In a stroke, 52 years of Democrat history vanishes. Disappeared faster than the truth in the Clinton administration. Why would this be? Allow me to sketch in a few facts from those missing 52 years. For that matter, lets add in the facts from the party history before and after those 52 years, since they aren’t mentioned by the Democrats’ National Committee either.

    So what’s missing?

    * There is no reference to the number of Democratic Party platforms supporting slavery. There were 6 from 1840-1860.

    * There is no reference to the number of Democratic presidents who owned slaves. There were 7 from 1800-1861

    * There is no reference to the number of Democratic Party platforms that either supported segregation outright or were silent on the subject. There were 20, from 1868-1948.

    * There is no reference to “Jim Crow” as in “Jim Crow laws,” nor is there reference to the role Democrats played in creating them. These were the post-Civil War laws passed enthusiastically by Democrats in that pesky 52-year part of the DNC’s missing years. These laws segregated public schools, public transportation, restaurants, rest rooms and public places in general (everything from water coolers to beaches). The reason Civil Rights heroine Rosa Parks became famous is that she sat in the front of a “whites only” bus, the “whites only” designation the direct result of Democrats.

The Ayers controversy has this missed point.

Knowing the background of Ayers, why did Obama establish any sort of political relationship as well as others. The point is not Obama may hate America as much as Ayers, BUT knowing his radical background why associate with this scum in any sort of way.

It all boils down to judgement - Obama has poor judgement. The Ayers and Wright associations prove that he has very POOR judgement - this alone disqualifies him as a viable candidate for President.

Evidence has come out that his relationship is just more than “Some guy who lives in my neighborhood” and “some guy who is at my university”.

I believe it was Winston Churchill who observed that once it was united behind a cause, there was no greater force in the world than the United States of America. That observation was made more than 60 years ago when in relative terms, the U.S. was much less influential than it is today.

The current version of the U.S. is one in which partisans hate each other, a president like Bush can accomplish squat nothing in his second term, China is growing exponentially in economic might and influence as we grow weaker, and we are shipping our wealth to the countries that hate us the most because we have energy interests running the country.

Rove continues have influence over Republican politics, and McCain is using his playbook. And neither party offers anything more than a slate of egomaniacs who, once elected, consolidate their own power and direct wealth to those who buy access to them through big campaign checks.

And finally, your claim that only people of low intellect support Obama over a 72-year old whose platform will be derived from the architects of this mess is silly. Many quite brilliant people are appalled by the state of our nation and its politics.

    Let’s put Obama’s life into perspective..shall we:

1- There’s no way any rational person will ignore his association with Rev Wright or Ayers…unless they hate America of course.

2- Obama’s wife is one of the phoniest people of all time. She offers conciliatory references about their cinderella lives that placate their negative perception.

3- Even James Carville (aka Yoda) feels their message lacks cohesion due to a lack of legitimacy.

4- Go check out Obama’s tax proposal on his site and try to read it in a non-biased way and you’ll see that he’s truly invested in socialism.

Power is not easy to give up, but the torch needs to be passed to a new generation of Americans. America needs a sense of urgency and energy. This energy is not going to come from a 71 year old.

We conservatives are not ashamed to stand up and say our candidate is not to our liking, and we object to their positions, but the lib kooks such as Fantasyteam claim to have the intellectual edge, which of course, is just that…a fantasy.

Your not a conservative. Because a true con even though they are wrong never put their convictions on the shelf? Your a CINO. If the old white hair dude is not your cup of tea why not put a Barr poster on your lawn?

Has anyone seen the trolls here condemning George Soros or moveon.org who has been doing much worse than any Republican supporter. For years. But the first thing out of the box by Republicans, even though completely factual, they start crying and demanding the justice departmant prosecute! Also they still whine and cry about Francois being “swiftboated” even though he has promised for years to release his complete military record, has not, and will not. Morons, why is that?

    Deleted - false flag.

Navydad, eh, I mean Spook, is that you again [#85]? Former Republican that just discovered this blog, registered un-affiliated.

Hey Former, what about the one that the Republican legislators are responsible for the shortage of fuel! You know, the Republicans that want to drill, drill, and drill now, are causing a diminished supply and the blowhards that refuse to drill anywhere, anytime are the victims.
    Integrity you can believe in.

Rascisim was mentioned in an earlier post…..the last party to nominate a segragationist was….THE DEMS….in 1956 when Adali Stevenson gave Kevhafer the VP slot….another Illinois “intellectual” that sold out after the primaries…..Sound familiar?

  • 89. FormerRepublican  |  August 27th, 2008 at 11:07 am

WhatChange, I’m not familiar with the one about the Republican legislators being responsible for the shortage of fuel. But I’m not talking about one side arguing that the other is to blame. I’m talking about emails that claim to state the facts but are in actually completely and deliberately false. The latest that I received is this one:

    http://tinyurl.com/5m8ya4

I know we think Obama is quick to cry “smear” when he is criticized, but an email like the one I describe qualifies.

What is ironic is that I typically get this emails from my church friends. I expect better from my church and its members, and I tell them so.

What Bill Ayres (Terrorist) Sees In Obama

Ever ask yourself why Obama has any relationship at all with US Grown terrorist and 60’s radical Bill Ayres? The guy admits to bombing and planning to bomb government targets in the70’s and yet he sponsored one of Obamas earliest State Senate fundraisers in his own home, worked with him on several boards and has a friendly relationship with Obama?
Now ask yourself the more important question, what does Bill Ayers, the radical, terrorist bomber, see in Obama that he likes so much he wants him in government?

  • 91. Pom Pom Girl  |  August 27th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Bill Ayres - In case anyone forgets in 1969 Bill participated in planting a bomb at a statue dedicated to police casualties in the 1886 Haymarket Riot. The blast broke almost 100 windows and blew pieces of the statue onto the nearby Kennedy Expressway. The following year he “went underground” with several associates after the Greenwich Village townhouse explosion, which caused the death of three of his terrorist cell members while a nail bomb was under construction. In Ayers’ words, decades after the fact, the bomb was “destined for the army base nearby,” Fort Dix in New Jersey. The massive bomb contained a box of carpenter nails, and though Ayers does not say it or admit it, it almost surely was intended to kill many people. This same man has 1) held a fundraiser at Obamas home to help launch Obamas State Senate campaign in 1995, 2) the two men have sat on the board of a private foundation in Chicago, the Woods Fund, for years, giving grants to, among others, a radical Palestinian activist named Rashid Khalidi, 3) Barack also was essentially an employee of Bill Ayers for eight years. He selected Barack as a director for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Obama served on the board for 8 years and Ayeres was intimately involved over the same period. 4) Michelle Obama worked with Bill’s wife at Sidley Austin law firm in Chicago in 1988.
