Anbar Province Turned Over to Iraqi Authority
September 1st, 2008 at 12:25pm Mark Noonan
Yep, sure glad we took Obama’s sage advice and got the last US soldier out of Iraq on March 31st:
BAGHDAD — The U.S. military has handed over security control of the western province of Anbar to Iraqi forces.
The province was once a hotbed of the Sunni Arab insurgency, and the scene of some of the bloodiest battles of the Iraq war.
The handover marks a major milestone in America’s strategy of turning security over to the Iraqis so U.S. troops can eventually go home.
In the ceremony Monday in the provincial capital of Ramadi, the top American commander in Anbar, Marine Maj. Gen. John Kelly, said Al Qaeda has not been entirely defeated in Anbar. But he said, “their end is near.”
Because, you see, there is no way for the military to play a roll here - we should have withdrawn because that is what the Iraqis wanted, and we should have done Biden’s bidding and partitioned the nation, because that is what some Americans wanted…
Any of you lefties starting to realise how silly you look?
And let’s all be thankful that President Bush ignored John McCain’s advice…I mean, think about it! For crying out loud, what would increased US troop levels done other than make more terrorists?

Since the Iraqi’s by a very large percentage want the United States out now not by 2011, can we leave that civil war now? Or are we going to go against the wishes of the Iraqi people and continue to colonize their nation for the big wig oil industry?

We will be handing the rest of that God forsaken country back to itself shortly.
We are already seeing the emergence of an Iraqi government that is more truly an expression of how ordinary Iraqis feel about us: Americans out, on a timeline.
I guess that was worth it.
There will NEVER be a “pro-American” democratic government in Iraq. We killed enough Iraqis and lorded it over them long enough to make sure of that.
Most comments on this subject are idiotic, from people who have never been there and have no useful first hand information.

At least I have been there three times. How many times have you been, you jackass?

As if being in Iraq three times equates to sound judgement. And incidentally, if I had my choice you wouldn’t have been there. I don’t want anyone of your limited intelligence and weak mind sharing that soil with my nephews.
You are poor example of a human being.

Neo: your spelling stinks and some day you need to talk to some soldiers instead of listening to Fox News for 30 seconds a day and then thinking you have something useful to say

isnt it strange how that played out?
MS blurts an ignorant pile of horse biscuits…and some guy named searp tried to top the ignorance…

Both of my nephews are marines who have served in Iraq, and I speak with them often.
Nice try. Not surprisingly, they have a different attitude than you do.

I live this war every day. I go to work every day, supporting the soldiers, analyzing data and otherwise making myself useful. I just wish everyone calling me ignorant or stupid did the same damn thing, then we’d have something to talk about.
As it is, I’m dealing with uninformed ideologues that have nothing, nothing, except ad-hominems for argument.
Go to Iraq, you bunch of losers, you like it so much.

Actually, I hope to go to Iraq one day, so much history. I never had that dream when Saddam was in power. I hope and pray Iraq becomes the country it once was and that everyone can enjoy what it has to offer.

Searp,
I actually respect your service but you seem to think that unless someone has a first hand account of Iraq, their opinions are meaningless and uninformed, which is wrong and judgemental.

Thank you for your service, searp.

I do think that actually seeing the country is important to forming an independent view of what is happening there.
We have been relentlessly propagandized (both sides) on this issue for so long that our ability to form an independent opinion based on “the media” is hopelessly compromised.
I suggest reverting to common sense. The Iraqi Arabs are a predominately Muslim population that have their own view of things. They are largely tribal and clan-oriented. They have suffered tremendously, and largely blame us, whether that is fair or not.
They want us to go so that they can fix their own problems. We will not like the result, and many of them will not like the result, but we cannot fix those problems for them.
The Army is ready to go. The soldiers are tired, and are needed elsewhere. I do not see any of the election rhetoric mattering at all. The combat troops will be out in the next two years or sooner, regardless of who is elected president.
I thank those that have indicated some appreciation for my service. I am going to keep at it until our folks don’t need me any longer.
