GOP Base Energized
September 1st, 2008 at 09:08am Mark Noonan
This is what happens when a good candidate for President picks a good person to be VP:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain took in $6.8 million in donations yesterday, when he named Alaska Governor Sarah Palin his running mate.
The amount was a single-day record, McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said last night. The amount is more than the Arizona senator raised during the entire fourth quarter of 2007.
The campaign raised $4.5 million in Internet donations, and has taken in $2.3 million so far by telephone and mail, Buchanan told reporters.
We GOPers are starting to sense the possibility of victory out there - still a long, uphill climb and even while our Presidential prospects have been brightening we’re brought down to earth by the objective realities of Campaign ‘08…its still, officially, a Democratic year…but the campaign has shifted, and neither candidate enjoys a clear advantage over the other at this point. Its anyone’s game and either candidate can find a way to the White House.

I’m working at the GOP headquarters tomorrow. I’m going to try to go at least twice a week. If you can volunteer your time or donate, now is the time. Not sure when the deadline is for donations … anyone?

I decided to give $100 to his campaign since his announcement of Sarah Palin as VP. I’m very excited and energized more than any other election.

I seriously doubt that McCain would have picked Sarah Palin had she not been a woman. This is a bit sad and I don’t think many Hillary fans will vote for her just because she’s got breasts. The only thing she has in common with Hillary is that she is a woman, nothing else.
I think more voters will be turned off by that choice because it seems so desperate.
I do admire the republicans for their ability to put their own personal preferences aside and rally behind whoever the nominee and VIP is. Let’s face it, If McCain had picked Lieberman, Mitt or Homer Simpson then that would have been considered brilliant by most of you right wingers.
I think you should consider the following very seriously. McCain is 72 years old now so statistically there is a fairly big chance that he will die before his first term is over….and then you will all be stuck with President Palin. Do you think she is READY TO LEAD the free world??? If yes, what do you base that on? You know nothing about this woman. How many times has McCain even met this person before making up his mind? Desperate. I have nothing against her and Im sure shes a nice mum, a good wife and a decent governor but so are many many other people. What makes her so special? Please enlighten me.

I was ecstatic when I saw Palin on TV with McCain on Friday. I’m happy to see everyone else was too. I can’t wait to see what the mood is at my Republican meeting next Monday.

I’m not going to waste my time with you anymore, Rasmus. Just go back and read the comments starting with the Palin announcement on Friday morning.

Spook,
“I’m not going to waste my time with you anymore, Rasmus.”
I’m so sorry Spook. Never meant to waste your precious time with my reasonable questions. Was I being rude? Please don’t answer.
Would anyone else care to “waste their time” responding to my humble observations? I know why you all think Obama is not ready to lead, but why do you think Ms. Palin is ready?

Rasmus: We all know you’re an Obamabot, so quit wasting your and our time.

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.
As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden’s.
She’s also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security’s counterterrorism plans.
Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country’s defense. Given Alaska’s proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don’t even know about.
According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.
She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

Kimberly,
“Rasmus: We all know you’re an Obamabot, so quit wasting your and our time.”
Please clarify what you mean by this.
Do you only appreciate people if they agree with you?
In post number 9 you are stretching so much.

$10 Million Woman: Palin a Hit with GOP Donors
“We’re still counting,” said campaign spokesman Brian Rogers.

I don’t think it’s all GOP donors either. If you read the Hillary supporters’ sites, a lot of them have donated as well.

They’re NOT humble, they’re snide and condescending, and I think most of the Conservatives here are just tired of you, Rasmus. I know I am. Anyone else want to engage Rasmus in a serious discussion — be my guest.
BTW, Ras, how that Danish economy going? Two straight quarters of NEGATIVE growth while the U.S. grew at 3.3% last month. Must suck to be a Dane.
14. Retired Spook | September 1st, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Sorry, that should have been 3.3% last quarter.

Repugs are so desperate to retain power, hell with the except of maybe Limbaugh McCain could have picked Ted Kennedy and they would have rallied around him.
16. Rasmus | September 1st, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Spook,
You’re right. The Danish economy hasn’t done well the last couple of quarters.
Do you see this as a prove that I’m always wrong and you’re always right? On the other hand, we don’t owe the Chinese a gazillion dollars.
Besides that Spook, I don’t care what you think of me. I will continue voicing my opinion on this blog whenever I feel like it. If that makes you feel uncomfortable then thats just something you will have to deal with.
Timestar,
couldn’t agree more.
17. Retired Spook | September 1st, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Besides that Spook, I don’t care what you think of me.
That’s good, because I don’t really “think” of you one way or another.
I will continue voicing my opinion on this blog whenever I feel like it.
Please, feel free. CO’s opinion is worth less than a bucket of warm piss, and yours is even lower — I’m thinking somewhere below whale sh*t in the ocean.
If that makes you feel uncomfortable then thats just something you will have to deal with.
It doesn’t make me uncomfortable. I would think that someone who’s life is so pathetic and small that they feel compelled to make derogatory comments about those with whom they disagree politically on a blog in another country is the one who should feel uncomfortable. Obviously you don’t, so go for it.
18. Rasmus | September 1st, 2008 at 3:51 pm
spook,
you say that you don’t “think” of me one way or another, and yet you keep on responding to my posts. Are you very lonely spookey? no one to play with?
Im logging off now….time difference…..dont worry, I will write you tomorrow spook.
peace

Disclosure: I’m an Obama supporter.
I’m glad that the GOP has chosen a VP they can identify with…which translates into 2 top issues (Pro-Life and gay marriage) which basically separates the 2 parties. I would say that gun control and immigration are 2 additional issues but people seem to be able to let those 2 go depending on who you speak to. Lots of these concerns are rooted in religion.
McCain might be a good candidate since I share a good percentage of his views but I can’t vote for him because of the amount of corruption and scandals that has existed in the GOP.
Anyway, good luck to all and let’s make it an exciting election in November.
