US Troops to Leave Baghdad RNC Day 4 Open Thread

Catholics Back Palin

September 4th, 2008 at 06:31am Mark Noonan

The news story:

At a rate of 54 percent, Catholic respondents believe McCain’s choice of Palin would help the Republican ticket, while 31 percent believe it would hurt the campaign. Seven percent believed it would not make a difference.

The Zogby Interactive online poll included 2,020 likely voters nationwide and claims a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.

So much for the Biden gambit - Obama picked the blowhard hack as a means of tricking Catholics into voting Obama. Didn’t work. Back to the drawing board, Obama.

Oh, and Rudy’s right - Biden should get that VP thing in writing. You think the Democrats won’t dump a loser? Ask Toricelli.

    Catholics back Palin?

    Huh?

54% say it would help McCain: I’m a liberal and I would say it would help McCain, but that doesn’t translate to backing McCain.

And even if they did back him. For a Party that claims to have a monopoly on the Christian vote, 54% is not very impressive.

  • 3. Willem van Oranje  |  September 4th, 2008 at 7:41 am

Oh, and you realize that with Palin, you’ve lost the Jewish vote. Don’t you?

Palin was a supporter of Pat Buchanan in 2000. That means Florida is gone.

  • 4. js  |  September 4th, 2008 at 7:48 am

you little boyz just get it do you

with obamas connection to wright and nation of islam, even considering the possibility that rezko really didnt break any laws in his obama dealing (which is pretty doubtful)

54% does not indicate that 46% still wont be voting for McCain, its just the number of Christians who think Palin helps the ticket…

did you boyz make it past grade school, or are you the result of the defective US Educational process under Clinton?

  • 5. kmg  |  September 4th, 2008 at 8:03 am

So basically, this poll tells us nothing about who they would actually vote for, despite the misleading title of the post.

BTW, a little fact checking of Palin’s speech:

What our devisive liberals don’t understand is that Palin connects with people, not groups. Our liberals love to categorize Americans as evidenced by WVO. As if all Jews think alike, but he seems to think so, and all Democrats of course think that blacks are all of one singular mind, which is very condescending.

Obama is a cocaine using Harvard educated Lawyer. Biden is a plagerizing Lawyer. And our liberals seem to think that they are more in tune with the average American.

    LMAO.

  • 7. Willem van Oranje  |  September 4th, 2008 at 9:49 am

@neocon: “Our liberals love to categorize Americans as evidenced by WVO”

Did you not read Mark’s post? Where he lumps ALL Catholics as McCain backers - 54% can hardly be called ‘All’ - and based on a poll that didn’t even ask that question?

    You silly silly neocon

  • 8. navydad  |  September 4th, 2008 at 9:53 am

Let’s not forget that the country has been equally divided in the past 2-3 elections and need I remind the libs here that a true Conservative would NEVER vote for Obama or Plugs….period!

BTW, what voting demographic was awol in 2004 and 2006?? The Conservative base, and when that base shows up in Nov. the land-l-be-slidin and the Dipsh*tocrats will be clainimg foul….again.

  • 9. yekepyt  |  September 4th, 2008 at 9:59 am

The title of this post, “Catholics back Palin,” is very misleading (surprise, surprise). The poll it cites does not ask whether Catholics back Palin. It asks whether they think Palin helps the Republican ticket — and fully 31% of this very conservative group said, “no, it will hurt his campaign.”

  • 10. neocon  |  September 4th, 2008 at 10:01 am

    WVO,

But but but Mark does it too! So! Does that make it right?

You know who doesn’t do it? Sarah Palin.
She IS middle class and will be your next VP and your next President in four years.

@kmg: these people are not interested in silly things like facts. They just want raw meat and they think the rest of the US wants raw meat as well.

Sarah Palin gave them raw meat in spades and now they are in hog heaven, not realizing that the independents and moderates of the US were appalled by her negativity, her vindictiveness, and her cutthroat partisan approach to the problems the US faces, while offering ZERO solutions. Not one policy proposal was introduced or discussed. Except drill, baby, drill. And that has become their entire message because they know the rest of their platform has become poisonous for their chances.

The delegates in the convention gave Bush an approvalrating of 80%. That shows you how much out of touch that roaring crowd at the convention really is.

McCain has destroyed a couple of his main appeals to Americans yesterday: his ‘experience’; his judgement; but most of all, his appeal as a ‘bipartisan’ statesman. I knew he didn’t possess any of those qualities but a lot of Americans still thought he had. With this pick, McCain has shown the American public that he is not interested in bringing solutions to Washington. He will do anything to get elected, and that includes pandering to the fringe of his party. As a consequence, he will bring more of the same to Washington: partisanship; vindictiveness and divisiveness. People are fed up with that.

Sarah might give McCain a slight bump in coming days. But give it a week and people will start to realize that this woman doesn’t offer solutions either, just more of the same.

  • 14. neocon  |  September 4th, 2008 at 10:23 am

    WVO,

I feel sorry for you man. You really don’t get it. Average Americans identify with Palin and not your cocaine using, inexperienced, Harvard educated lawyer.

Even the MSM pundits who are in the tank for Obama have recognized that.

Come out of the closet man. We want you back.

  • 15. Willem van Oranje  |  September 4th, 2008 at 10:29 am

    “You really don’t get it.”

Says the man who still thinks Bush is doing a hell of a job.

  • 16. neocon  |  September 4th, 2008 at 10:34 am

And then WVO invokes Bush and projects.

    Transparent.

That’s the only plan liberals have, desperately link everyone to Bush.

Did you notice that Sarah gave a special shout out to families with children with special needs? And t
How touching, wasn’t it? “I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.”

How do you think those families feel when they learn that Sarah Palin as Governor slashed funding for Special Needs Education with 62%

Do you still think those families feel they have a friend and an advocate in her?

  • 18. neocon  |  September 4th, 2008 at 10:46 am

    WVO,

I am going to give you a little time to digest those PDF links and restate your knee jerk assertion gleaned from the far left site, before I punk you.

I have to run now, but do your homework and I will be back.

  • 19. FactCheck  |  September 4th, 2008 at 11:24 am

@kmg: these people are not interested in silly things like facts. They just want raw meat and they think the rest of the US wants raw meat as well.

Exactly. She’s not supposed to be honest or accurate, for crying out loud–what would that gain her? “The base” has no use for facts; their task right now is to heap pre-written praise upon the pre-written speech that needed some last-second touch-ups because it was “too masculine”–whoopsie-daisy!

  • 20. yekepyt  |  September 4th, 2008 at 11:51 am

Hi, js — you’ve got to admit that the post’s title is deliberately misleading. My parenthetical “surprise, surprise” is because this exact tactic (posting deliberately misleading information) is used all the time on this blog, and I’ve pointed it out before, ad nauseum. It wasn’t meant to be juvenile, it was meant to remind you that there is an active effort in these posts to manipulate through deceit.

Sometimes (as in this case) it’s more obvious than others.

  • 21. neocon  |  September 4th, 2008 at 11:51 am

Fact: Obama is an inexperienced Harvard educated cocaine using lawyer.

Fact: Biden is a plagerizing, Washington elite lawyer

Fact: Palin has already negotiated with, and defeated big oil.

Fact: Palin has more executive experience than either Obama or Palin

Fact: Palin IS western values, family oriented, middle class American values

Fact: She clearly stated their energy plan, tax plan, and foreign policy. Sorry that eluded you.

Fact: Palin and McCain will win in a landlside.

  • 22. Some Assembly Required  |  September 4th, 2008 at 11:56 am

“Fact: Palin has more executive experience than either Obama or Palin”

Palin has even more experience then herself? Yup, that about sums up your argument.

  • 23. neocon  |  September 4th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

    Good catch SAR,

I meant to say Biden. And good to know you agree with every other point.

    Vote Palin…..for change.
