McCain Health Care Plan Endorsed by Obama Advisor But Not Promoted by McCain? Obama Campaign Accuses Palin of Putting Her Career Above Her Family

Global Warming Update

September 6th, 2008 at 08:53pm Mark Noonan

We interrupt this election campaign to bring you the latest bit of common sense to be spoken on the issue of global warming and its zealots:

The Environment Minister Sammy Wilson has angered green campaigners by describing their view on climate change as a “hysterical psuedo-religion”.

In an article in the News Letter, Mr Wilson said he believed it occurred naturally and was not man-made.

“Resources should be used to adapt to the consequences of climate change, rather than King Canute-style vainly trying to stop it,” said the minister.

Peter Doran of the Green Party said it was a “deeply irresponsible message.”

Mr Wilson said he refused to “blindly accept” the need to make significant changes to the economy to stop climate change.

“The tactic used by the “green gang” is to label anyone who dares disagree with their view of climate change as some kind of nutcase who denies scientific fact,” he said.

The minister said he accepted climate change can occur, but does not believe the cause has been identified.

“Reasoned debate must replace the scaremongering of the green climate alarmists.”

John Woods of Friends of the Earth said Mr Wilson was “like a cigarette salesman denying that smoking causes cancer”.

Wilson is being a bit unrealistic here - I mean, to expect environmentalists to engage in “reasoned debate” is to set the bar too high…these are, after all, the people who told us we’d all die of famine and will suffer from a new ice age due to man-made global cooling in the 1970’s…people who can turn on a dime like that are not open to reason.

But it is good that some people are starting to have the courage to speak forcefully about the varied absurdities of environmentalism. If our enviro-whackos were only Luddites we’d be ok - Luddites just wanted to stop change…the whackos want to undo change and recreate what, in their view, the world must have been like before straight, white, Christian males wrecked it all because they are racist, sexist, homophobic, greedy imperialists (I know, very strange - work with me here, people; we’re dealing with what passes for thought on the left). While common sense dictates cleaning up messes and trying not to make new ones, only an idiot looks at stand of trees and says, “we must preserve this forever”…as if there is such a thing as a “forever” in this world. Pay attention, good people - whether you believe in God and the Last Judgement or believe in an entirely materialistic universe, the fact of the matter is that the death of our Earth is inevitible…preserving it “forever” is akin to putting water seal on the Titanic’s deck chairs.

We need to keep fighting these people off - for at least another 10 years or so they will continue to have the upper hand, but after the next decade has passed it will become increasingly difficult for them to hide the fact that “global warming” is just another in a long line of environmentalists scams designed to scare people into voluntary socialism.

The earth is flat. All these naysayers that may cause an economic snuggie are fools.

I tell you the earth is flat. Now quit yer whining.

Months ago, Retired Spook noticed that these GW threads giet scant attention anymore when just a few months earlier, these threads were rife with liberal contempt. I think the passion is waning and this non-debatable is suddenly more and more questioned. That being said, the following is from the APS:

The American Physical Society, which represents around 50,000 physicists, has retreated from its past position that anthropogenic global warming is “incontrovertible” and has now acknowledged that “[t]here is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably…primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution.” The APS has now opened a debate on global warming in its journal Physics & Society.

wllington, you twit, how do you explain this:

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080609124551.htm

“In the past, they observed that the sun once went 50 years without producing sunspots. That period, from approximately 1650 to 1700, occurred during the middle of a little ice age on Earth that lasted from as early as the mid-15th century to as late as the mid-19th century.”

So much for anthropogenic global warming.

You know I just watched the Olympics in Bejing. The man made pollution was severe. Unbridled and unchecked. They stopped manufacturing and production, reduced the number of cars on the road and did other things to mitigate the pollution. It was sad, and a harbinger of the way our nation will be if left unchecked. We cannot continue to do as we have been doing. There is a cliff and we are at the precipice.

We must lead by example. We must lead by setting reasonable and adequate goals in reduction. Our air, and water should not be gambled with. I understand the economic implications of being over zealous on both ends.

But to say absolutely unequivocally, that GW is not man made is foolhardy.

We can catch up to the world. We can induce new technology and new business into this field.

Or we can stick our heads back in the ostrich hole like you want us too.

By the way Mark, while you had your head in the hole (not watching the Olympics) you missed a great show. Your loss.

Wellington, then why should manufacturing move from the USA where it is the most efficient and pollution free to China and India where it is wildly inefficient and pollution prone? I hear the argument about the US having 3% of the population and using 25% of the energy. But we produce 33% of everything made. And we do it with less pollution.

So, isn’t the answer then to adopt American ways? If the world adopted our ways, we could produce more with less waste and less pollution.

    You see this logic?

In the very least, manufacturing should be retained here for these very reasons.

    Wellington,

We are not unequivocally saying that AGW is not man made, but the scientists are are certainly eluding to that.

And we’re all for an aggressive energy transition plan shifting our dependence away from foreign sources to more domestic and renewable sources. Glad you agree and McCain has the best plan for that hands down. Take a look.

    I’m a global warming denier,

Since many on the left are against religion, they may look to global warming and parts of science for the answers to their questions about life, death, afterlife. Some people take their global warming views to serious and try and shove them down everyones throat.

Since John McCain has shown support for global warming. I guess an arguement of, if it really exists, with the left, would be pointless, and more of like a religious debate.

Some of the alternative energy, recycling, clean air ideas make sense. No one likes air pollution and alot of people can see the need for new forms of energy. So maybe some parts ain’t too bad. If carbon credits were traded like a stock and paid a quarterly or monthly dividend. Maybe people would be racing out to buy them. Solar power makes alot of sense if your way out in the country not hooked up to a power line. Forcing this stuff on people, and driving up energy costs to the point where the costs are unaffordable for the average person, is stupid.

What is Sarah Palins view on some of this stuff?

Sorry, sport, but you’ve got it exactly backasswards. We’ve actually stepped back from the precipice. What we’ve done to clean up our air and water is a “harbinger” of what China will do when it reaches the economic prosperity that we’ve achieved.

Neo is exactly right. A year ago GW threads typically generated over 100 comments. Some of them lasted 2 or 3 days. It isn’t that no one cares any more. It’s just that more and more people realize what a fraud the whole issue is. Of course, the fact that mother nature hasn’t cooperated in the last 10 years hasn’t helped the Alarmists’ cause much. As Phnx notes, our sun has gone exceptionally quiet, not for an alarming length of time, but long enough that even some Warmers are starting to take notice. Interesting times indeed.

The threads got shorter because the debate is always fact-fact-fact-fact-fact vs God did it.

    End of debate.

  • 10. Kahn  |  September 7th, 2008 at 1:44 am

cogressive - you are absolutely correct. We can’t compete with the hysterical global warming cult.

  • 11. phnx  |  September 7th, 2008 at 8:03 am

Congressive, just in case you can’t connect the dots:

Lack of sunspots translates to GLOBAL COOLING.

    Better bundle up moonbat.

  • 12. Danish Artist  |  September 7th, 2008 at 8:42 am

The only time conregressive connected the dots, he/she/it ended up with a picture of an unicorn.

“God did it” - you leftists have elevated the Goracle to that lofty status? You leftists cherry-pick and spin your environmental facts and dismiss science as being in the “pockets of big oil”.

  • 13. JS  |  September 7th, 2008 at 9:15 am

so what about this “green gang”….have they solved the problem…or just milked the establishment for cash to propogate fantasy…have they introduced a “green” car for all of america to use…or do they drive thier SUV’s to press confrence’s to bash anyone who doesnt agree with them….have they done anything to reduce our dependence on foreign oil…or is the spotted owl worth more than thier rights we protect so they can lie to about science…

all in all…if all the energy they use to be political were applied to making the US green….nobody could stop them…but instead….they hitch thier cart to hypocricy and stupidity and throw away any potential they ever had….on a lie….

  • 14. JRB  |  September 7th, 2008 at 9:30 am

conregresive. FACT FACT FACT! Look at the data. Co2 emissions have steadily increased over the past 40 years. (source: http://climate.weather.com/science/climate-data/monthlyreport.html ) but, for the past 10 years, global temperatures have been cooler than that of 1998. To explain this, the “believers” will cite numerous sources to debunk this simple fact. One good example, http://climateprogress.org/2008/08/21/debunking-the-myth-global-warming-stopped-in-1998/ ,does a tap dance that would make Fred Astaires’ head spin. These sights are sprinkled heavily with terms “as a whole” “ because of this“ “ because of that“ “due to this“ “due to that“ “the reason for this” “the reason for that” . Unfortunately, I fear, many scientists can’t see the forest through the trees and/or, to save face, are scurring like cockroaches to explain their unconfirmed theories.

Two simple facts cannot be denied.

#1. Co2 has been increasing every year since 1998.

#2. Every year since 1998 has been cooler.

Ok, Left Lib Greenies, time to get those shoes on!

Global warming is junk science, but
In the spirt of bi-partisnship, to fund the “Green Ideas” and not soak the taxpayers.

Maybe we could make ” The AL Gore Series of green investments portfolio.

Start with a capital corp. a stock with a dividend that could pay much more than you’d make at a bank. Kinda like the REIT stocks.

add a selection of safer large caps with green products and ideas, some mids, small caps and micro caps.

add some high growth companies that look like they are close to being able to market their products. Put some real screamers in there and people won’t wanna buy crude futures and drive up oil prices as much. Get some Wall St pro option traders that can make the stocks real exciting and fun to trade.
