Obama: “…My Muslim Faith.”
September 7th, 2008 at 12:54pm Matt Margolis
UPDATE: It’s really funny reading liberals going nuts about this video. For eight years they’ve jumped on every single verbal gaffe made by President Bush, and have been certainly jumping on McCain in the same fashion. Barack Obama himself claimed in his acceptance speech that John McCain legitimately believed that you are rich if you make over $5 million dollars, when that was clearly a joke. Did that matter to Barack Obama? No it didn’t.
Liberals, if you don’t like us jumping on verbal gaffes of Barack Obama or Joe Biden… tough.
UPDATE: I could also point out some ridiculously offensive things Obama has said too.
UPDATE: Power Line notes that the Obama campaign, desperate to regain ground, is deliberately lying in a new ad that suggests John McCain thinks people making $5 million a year are middle class. Even the Washington Post could concede that Obama was deliberately misleading.

The elections over. Say hello to President McCain and VP Palin.
Can you imagine what Obama may say to people like Ahmendijad? When he’s unscripted, he’s dangerous.
2. Bigfoot | September 7th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
But, but, he just, uh, misspoke. Yeah, that’s the ticket, he misspoke.
3. kimberly4victory | September 7th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Wonder how he’s going to get out of this one??
I heard some Obamabot say, “Well, you didn’t listen to the whole thing.”
Okay-dokay. The entire video is on ABC and this is how the conversation went:
BO: What I was suggesting… you’re absolutely right that McCain has not talked about MY Muslim faith, and you’re absolutely right that…
GP: (interrupting) Your Christian faith. (thinking, you IDIOT!)
BO: My Christian faith. Well, what I’m saying is that he hasn’t suggested that I’m a Muslim.
No, he’s not suggesting you’re Muslim. You are.
4. WhatChange | September 7th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
It depends on what the definition of my is.
5. kimberly4victory | September 7th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Here is a longer video of that conversation.

You can hear GP reminding OB about this Christian faith.
Ya gotta love it.
6. Perry | September 7th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
My guess is that Barack Obama has faith in little more than Barack Obama. The rest, whether Christian or Muslim, is just window dressing designed to help him get elected.
7. FactCheck | September 7th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
BO: My Christian faith. Well, what I’m saying is that he hasn’t suggested that I’m a Muslim.
So he’s commending John McCain for not running with the “OMG, Obama =secret Muslim!” idiocy. Which is more than can be said the the wingnuts around here.
It’s nice to see you still maintain a constant hate for Muslims, though. And will still fall for anything.
8. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
FactCheck,
Nice deflection, and this has nothing to do with Muslims.
Perry is right. Obamas “religion” is window dressing. A faux attempt to connect with average Americans who “cling” to theirs.
He’s out of his league and has been exposed. The curtain has been drawn back and Americans are weary of the stage designers.
9. JS | September 7th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
obama has been lying to us all along…thats what wright did…all along, while he supported the nation of islam…he charaded as a christian…but what if he were an apostate…what would the view be in the islamic world…an islamic world they brag about that has over 1 billion followers….
THE PUNISHMENT FOR APOSTASY FROM ISLAM….Conclusion
We have examined the theological foundation of Islam and found that Islam’s established ruling is that apostates are to be killed wherever they are. The Quran implies this while the Hadith, Sira, and works of jurisprudence state it clearly. When the breadth and depth of Islam are examined this is the only conclusion that can be drawn.
Islam brings a knife to the throat of all that is non-Muslim, be they Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, or apostates. It is incumbent upon Christians to expose this brutality and speak out against and oppose the darkness of this command. Supporting ministries like Voice of the Martyrs is something all Christians can do.

10. FactCheck | September 7th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
this has nothing to do with Muslims.
In a sense, you’re right. Muslims are just easy for you to hate, but the real point is hating Obama because you’re so scared of him. So you resort to pathetic little games like this. Poor little kids…you really have trouble operating in the grown-up world, don’t you?
11. kimberly4victory | September 7th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Yeah, we’re afraid of OB - afraid of what he will do to our country if he gets his hands on it.
This video once again proves that the man is a liar.
Just watch. Remember when he had to backtrack and backtrack on the Wright issue and finally came out that YES, I did hear Wright. Same thing will happen with this. He will finally have to admit that he WAS a Muslim.
It won’t matter, to the American people, that he once was or still is, a Muslim. The fact that he lied once again is what will matter.
12. WhatChange | September 7th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Can’t we all just get along? But if you publish Danish cartoon, infidels, be prepared for death! Awesone platform, Dems.
13. FactCheck | September 7th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
This video once again proves that the man is a liar.
Uh, no. You seem to have a comprehension problem. If you’d like, I can explain it to you. Thank you, though, for proving my point about right-wing hysteria about “OMG, scary secret Muslim!” You should go join JS and have yourself a hategasm.
And if you’re so offended by the repetition of lies, then clearly you must be offended by Sarah Palin. She’s still repeating, among other things, the “I said no to the bridge to nowhere” lie.
I look forward to your condemnation of her lying repeatedly. After all, that’s “what matters” to you, right?
IOKIYAR in 5…4…3…
14. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
FactCheck,
Yeah you’re right. We all have a hard time operating in the real world.
Great comeback.
Obama is dishonest to the core and panders to every constituency.
New liberal. Old politics.
15. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
FactCheck,
So you do admit that Obama lied, otherwise you would not call on js to challenge Palin’s lies.
Thanks.
16. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
And secondly, that wasn’t a lie by Palin. She did say no albeit after initially supporting it. That’s a flip, not a lie.
17. WhatChange | September 7th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Great election eve video ad, “my” Muslim faith, friends with terrorist Bill Ayers, American flags in the trash, and Hussein without his hand over his heart. John Murtha condemning our cold blooded murderer Marines.
How is the smear campaign of Palin’s 17 year old daughter working for you anti-Americans?
18. kimberly4victory | September 7th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
The Bridge to Nowhere comment is neither a lie nor a flip.
Yes, she did say, “No” to the Bridge to Nowhere. She did, however, take the Federal funds (I think they were already appropriated for her State) - which will NOT be used for the Bridge to Nowhere, but for other much-needed projects.
So, I ask, “What the hell is wrong with that?”
19. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Kimberly,
Great point. When Washington is handing out money, you don’t ever see liberals refusing it. Do you?
And you would think Palin’s distributing oil revenues back to the populace of the Alaska would make her a folk hero among Democrats.
Evidently, they don’t want oil revenues distributed.
20. Obama08 | September 7th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
“This election is not about issues.”
It’s all about religious bigotry and racism.
No surprises there.
21. FactCheck | September 7th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
So you do admit that Obama lied, otherwise you would not call on js to challenge Palin’s lies.
Please don’t try to do logic when you are so clearly unfamiliar with it and how it works. Stick to your comforting lies, OK, kiddo? Also, perhaps you’ll notice that JS is not kimberly4victory…unless you know something I don’t about aliases here.
If any of you aren’t scared, here’s the full two-minute clip with context, showing that, once again, I was right, and you guys immediately ran with dishonesty. That’s a recurring theme around here.
Obama’s talking about the dynamic of the Secret Muslim meme and how it gets spread. The McCain campaign itself has not pushed that lie, but blogs (such as this one–in this very thread, no less) have certainly done so. He was giving the McCain campaign a modicum of credit for not being as deranged as, well, you guys. By jumping on the little clip, you guys proved Obama right–and you embraced a lie, as you so typically do.
You guys can never seem to get on the right side of the facts. Why is that? Do facts frighten you? Is it something pathological with you? Do you just find lies more comforting?
Matt Margolis: Are you going to issue a correction in light of the facts? A retraction? Or are you going to continue your unbroken streak of cowardice? I can pretty much guarantee you’ll take the coward’s route. Here’s your chance to finally prove me wrong!
22. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Did someone say that Obama does not look like the other Presidents on the dollar bills?
Yes, Obama said that.
Did someone say that average Americans cling to their guns and Bibles?
Yes, Obama said that.
Why are Democrats making this election about Race and Religion?
23. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
FactCheck,
So Obama is afraid of us?
LMAO.
This has really gotten under your skin FactCheck proving that you are about as deep as a mud puddle. You and Obama are made for each other. Stupid and dishonest.
If Obama does not want this promulgated, tell him to STFU and talk about issues.

“My Muslim faith,”, awesome!

I’m going to climb out on a limb and make a prediction. Barry will do very well in states 51-57, and maybe Massachusetts and DC.
33. Retired Spook | September 7th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
She’s still repeating, among other things, the “I said no to the bridge to nowhere” lie.
I look forward to your condemnation of her lying repeatedly.
I’m confused, FC; are you saying that the bridge got built when no one was looking? And is the bridge what she “lied about repeatedly” or has she lied repeatedly about other things? Palin’s approval rating in Alaska was reported a couple days ago as 86%. Does that mean 86% of Alaskans are liars or approve of their governor lying repeatedly?
34. yekepyt | September 7th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Obama was giving credit to McCain’s campaign for not promoting the lie that he is a Muslim.
You only need to watch the next ten or twenty seconds of the video (conveniently cut off by the clip posted here, but available elsewhere) to understand exactly what he was saying.
Here’s an example that you might relate to: “neocon has tried to make it sound like I’m affiliated with the Obama campaign. There is no truth this statement, he just assumed my affiliation with the Obama campaign.”
Now someone could take this quote, and just use the part where I say, “my affiliation with the Obama campaign,” thereby editing the clip for distortion purposes, and make it sound like I’m making some sort of Freudian slip.
That’s exactly what happened here — as I said, go watch the next ten or twenty seconds of the clip if you are curious to see for yourself. It wasn’t a slip-up, it is a case of deliberately taking part of a quote out of context.
Will anyone be duped by this obvious hack-job that deliberately edits the quote to promote a known falsehood? There are probably some, yes.

Keep changing that subject there FC. I wouldn’t want to focus on the inexperienced, cocaine using, Ivy League lawyer either.
But Palin has certainly gotten under your skin and it’s hysterical.
Keep posting though, because with your rants and football, I am enjoying the hell out of this day. Tell me again about her daughter Bristol.
38. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Better yet FC, tell me about Hussein Obamas Muslim faith. You seem to know everything, so this ought to be an easy one for you.
39. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
I remember Obama telling everyone that he was a member of the Seante banking committee, and that just isn’t the case.
Gaffe or lie?
FC maybe you can help us out with that.
40. kimberly4victory | September 7th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Okay, factcheck, I will concede and say that I took his gaffe out of context … however, just the fact that he said “MY muslim faith” bothers me. There are still a lot of questions about Obama … black liberation theology … Louis Farakahn … his early upbringing … his relationships with Wright, Ayres, Rezso.
Is he really qualified to be POTUS? I wonder what his Illinois constituants think of him?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOFT8jtuVpo
Does his response to the Georgia/Russia conflict bother you? Is he qualified to be POTUS given the recent developments of Russia wanting to assist Iran with their nuclear facilities? How about his VP pick Biden telling Israel they would have to live with Iran’s nukes?
Liberals always talk about how they believe McCain never vetted Palin. Did anyone vet Obama?
Also … I don’t recall Governor Palin saying she sold the jet on ebay. She said she PUT it on ebay. And, when you sell something that is “used”, you will typically lose money. Would you buy a used car for it’s original price?
41. neocon | September 7th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Kimberly,
Also depending on the depreciation schedule of the jet, they very well could have made money.
But I think those concepts are above FC’s pay grade.
42. JS | September 7th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
reality; “my” muslim faith…freudian slip there…obama denied being a muslim before…now…he really will run from unscripted interviews…
but what about facts? the names barak, hussein, obama, are all solid muslim names…obama’s father is a certified muslim…his name, as well, is certified muslim, his adopted father was too, and registered hussein as a muslim in a school in indonesia…so what about facts…facts are only words…
43. yekepyt | September 7th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
neocon, if i purchase a car for $50,000, drive it for a year until the book value is $30,000, then sell it for $35,000, have I made a profit?
44. Joe Bananas...In Pyjamas | September 7th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
LOL…..can you believe it the video has been taken down.
45. yekepyt | September 7th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
JS, it wasn’t a Freudian slip — go re-read posts #34 and #40.
If you haven’t already, listen to the next ten or twenty seconds of Obama’s response, which was purposefully edited out of the clip posted here.
The editing of the video posted here was a calculated effort to deceive you — don’t fall for it. Listen to the whole response yourself, and you’ll see what Obama meant (it’s obvious when you listen to his entire response).
46. yekepyt | September 7th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Joe Bananas,
It is easy to re-create the clip. Go download the entire clip, then use a movie editing program (like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, or Adobe Premier or Apple’s Final Cut Pro) to edit the clip so that only the first part of Obama’s response is included.
Be sure to edit the clip so that Obama’s response is cut off mid-stream… otherwise people will understand what he was trying to say.
Post the resulting video on YouTube, and — voila! — you have distorted Obama’s response all on your very own! Should take about 30 minutes.

Yes, that is interesting, Kimberly (but also a predictable repetition of someone else’s talking point).
I suspect that he did consider joining the military (we all have), but he is calling attention to it now for the same reason that McCain, Kerry, Romney, Bush, Clinton, Gore, Bush Sr., Reagan, Mondale, Carter, and other politicians have tried to highlight their assets and paint themselves in a positive light during campaigns: he wants to win.

the problem with that interview is that george stephanopoulos thought there was a problem when there wasn’t. If gs had let the interview go on there would never have been the mis-correction. Obama said it correctly — that mccain had never put forth that obama had muslim faith (”my muslim faith”). gs mis-corrected that which led to obama restating that he has christian faith (which he didn’t have to if gs had just done his job) — and then a few seconds later comprehended the idiot gs is and explained what he (obama) meant.
do watch the entire exchange. too bad that the media (all of it) don’t just interview, listen, and report.

Obama writes two books about himself, ran for State Senate, ran for the House, ran for US Senator, runs for the Presidency, and yet…all of a sudden he NOW recalls that he once wanted to join the military?
What is THAT supposed to do? Is that supposed to bolster his credibility regarding military matters? Is he trying to gain votes from those ‘bitter’ people who cling to their guns and have sons and daughters in the military?

Iran’s leadership has expressed “great pleasure” at the prospect of a Barack Obama victory in November, according to Menashe Amir, the Iranian-born head of Radio Israel’s Persian language service.
But Iranian President Ahmadinejad has said he doubts that the American establishment “will allow” Obama to win.
“One of the Iranian religious leaders said if Obama will enter the White House, then Islam will conquer the heart of the American nation,” Amir told Isracast.com.
The Iranian leadership likes Obama “mainly because he is a Muslim,” according to Amir. His first name, Barack, comes from “al-baraq,” which is the name of the horse that Muslims believe Muhammad rode on his way to paradise.
His middle name Hussein is also a Muslim name, and he was “born in a Muslim family,” said Amir.
In fact, Obama is a Christian. His deceased father was a Muslim, and though Obama attended a Muslim school in Indonesia, he never pursued the Muslim faith of his early childhood. While some commentators have suggested that this qualifies him as an apostate — a “crime” punishable by death according to Islamic sharia law — Menashe Amir disagreed.
“If he wins the election, Muslims will be very proud of such a conquest, such a win. He didn’t convert [to Christianity] after he was 18. It happened much, much before,” so the sharia law judgment does not apply.
