Barack Obama likes to campaign that John McCain is out of touch with average Americans. But it looks like his surrogates in the media need a lesson or two about life outside their “cosmopolitan” bubbles. The New York Times has a nice write-up on Sarah Palin revealing this little nugget on how unbelievably out of touch our media really is:
In the press galleries at the convention, journalists wrinkled their noses in disgust when Piper, Ms. Palin’s youngest daughter, was filmed kitty-licking her baby brother’s hair into place. But to many Americans — including some I talked to in the convention hall — that looked like family church on Sunday, evidence of good breeding and sibling regard.

Coincidentally Clive Crook has an excellent Op-Ed today in The Financial Times titled “Democrats must learn some respect.” Here is just one of many exceptional passages:
Democrats regard their policies as self-evidently in the interests of the US working and middle classes. Yet those wide segments of US society keep helping to elect Republican presidents. How is one to account for this? Are those people idiots? Frankly, yes – or so many liberals are driven to conclude. Either that or bigots, clinging to guns, God and white supremacy; or else pathetic dupes, ever at the disposal of Republican strategists. If they only had the brains to vote in their interests, Democrats think, the party would never be out of power. But again and again, the Republicans tell their lies, and those stupid damned voters buy it.It is an attitude that a good part of the US media share.

I accidently posted this in the other Piper item. Oh, well, I will just post it here as well.
My mother and I were sitting there, watching the speech, and thought Piper was just adorable as she was taking care of her baby brother. Guess we are just too middle class for the liberal media types.
Liberals and the media love middle class America.

The left has lost the election because of these attacks. ALL the criticism since these attacks began have been colored and discounted because of them.

If you want a pregnant teen to be ridiculed, step into the national spotlight with an anti-abortion, anti-birth control, pro-abstinence only education stance. That may have something to do with it.

heyHey, It doesn’t matter if the OFFICIAL Obama campaign attacked them. Wildly partisan Obama supporters did. And, many of the left leaning press did.
I’ll be kind and assume you don’t get this. “In marketing, perception is reality.” That’s a lesson right out of Marketing 101. BMW’s are performance. Volvo’s are safe. Hondas are reliable. And liberals go after your kids.
The left blogs attacked Palin and her kids over the first weekend. Some of their attacks made it into the media. Then, the “vetting” questions arose because of all the scandals. Scandals? What scandals were the less left leaning press referring to? The very lies propagated by the extreme left. It was obvious that they were either in on it or willing to propagate it.
The press has used almost identical language as they have tried one attack after another on Palin. This re-enforces the impression that it is one big pro-Obama/anti-republican effort.
You went after her kids. It diminished you. It lost you the election. The veil of verisimilitude is gone. Now a majority of people in the country believe that the press is trying to get Obama elected. The continued hysterical attacks on her and her family reinforce this perception and have the opposite effect. People do not like being “played.”
Remeber that we will be watching at the next leftist blog convention (as we were last time) to see which politicians attend. You correctly assumed that last time, this tied their names and reputations to YOU. What you did not understand is that it also tied your names and reputations to THEM.

Look, you guys know my opinion of you wasn’t changed by this. I already knew who you were. But made a big mistake. Instead of trying to figure out a way to undo the damage, you just keep attacking. And that just isn’t working. The people of the United States see you as hate filled extremist partisans. And thy don’t like it.
By the way bagnis, Cindy McCain is not running for president. John McCain is. Just realized you yourself attacked a family member. Wow, can’t beleive I missed that.

I can see the difference and so can you. I make that distinction when reading this blog all the time and I make that distinction when reading lefty blogs. So it’s not Obama-Biden that people are condemning for attacking Palin’s kids it’s the left liberal blogosphere who support them but they are too dumb too make that distinction.
It really does cut both ways though.

I have asked the question many times and not once has anyone here provided any kind of response why it was ok for the Bush campaign to slander McCain, but God forbid that anyone say anything about Sarah.

Look, I don’t know the details of the supposed Bush attacks on McCain. I don’t know who said what. Frankly, I don’t care that much. I voted for Bush in the primary because Secret Service friends of mine told me they liked him as they did the whole Bush family.
But I do know who attacked who now. And the left attacked Palins kids and you still are.
And even in this very string, Bagni attacked McCains wife.
Obama went to the KOS convention and paid his homage. I hear Democrats say they’d go again. So there is a reasonable association there. And again, this is marketing and I only need to convince the undecided. I don’t need to prove anything. Welcome to politics.
You atttacked – and you still are. Geezzzz, don’t you get this? Stop it. You know as well as I do that just about every poster here is firmly rooted in one camp or the other. I’m giving you friendly advice. The problems aren’t your posts here, it’s the way you’re giving unhealthy influence to the press. KOS is a well known site. People who aren’t blogger see it and read it.
These attacks are having the opposite efffect. Stop, for goodness sakes stop. Leave these kids alone. Saying Bush did it in the past does not justify you doing it now.

They have bad language on your planet? How quaint. I’m Irish, I’m a former Marine, and I have no time for jerks and fools. I choose the words that fit best. In the case of people attacking family members – I actually chose lighter words than warranted.
This ticket disgust me. The sheeple in the Republican party not demanding the truth from McCain! Continuously and flat out lying about his own record that he told the truth about 8 months ago! Are you really that shallow that you just blindly follow the party.
