ABC Edited Crucial Portions of Palin Interview

September 14th, 2008 at 08:24pm Matt Margolis

NewsBusters posts the uneditted transcript of Sarah Palin’s interview with Charlie Gibson, and notes what was cut out, and what those edits mean.

A transcript of the unedited interview of Sarah Palin by Charles Gibson clearly shows that ABC News edited out crucial portions of the interview that showed Palin as knowledgeable or presented her answers out of context.

Do check it all out. It’s quite revealing. Even a comment made by Gibson where he admitted he agreed with Palin was editted out!

uh Matt, they edited out typical talking points, what exactly “showed Palin as knowledgeable “?

maybe her repeating “We cannot repeat the Cold War” over and over again was cut as to not embarrass her, since she obviously had no clue and was just repeating one of her fall back lines.

Maybe they took out the part about her not knowing what a “head of state” was to not embarrass her

Maybe they decided that Alaska being near Russia doesn’t really mean that the Gov. has had any foreign relations experience, so they didn’t want to embarrass her

ABC does her a favor and you think they were being biased? Wow, you just repeat what you’re told, don’t you. Maybe you should have looked into this one a bit further as to not embarrass yourself.

Nay, Matt knows exactly what he is doing with the headline. Media bad, Palin good is for wingnut consumption. What ABC left out was the fact Lady Sarah was asked the difference between Mallard and Canvasback ducks and she nailed the answer. Media bias kept her answer off the air.

    42,

What I take from the edited out portions is not anything uneducated, but rather things that made her come off as less warhawkish. The interview did make it seem like she was pro-war all the time, and didn’t care if it meant another war with Russia. That, and the nuclear Iran segment, are where the most information is edited out.

If the media wanted to avoid embarrassing her by editing out the repetition, then why didn’t they edit out the “second guess” thing? You can’t have it both ways.

no matter, omission is a lie…and when they cut sentences from the interview, they decieved the public and violated the public trust…instead of fining janet jackson, the fcc should be fining abc for lying to us…

This is nothing new, all interviews are edited before being broadcast. Then you have the unedited version and transcript available if you want to see the whole thing. It may have helped her to have them edit out the statements about Ahmadinejad. He doesn’t control Iran’s military and would have no access if Iran had nuclear weapons. That was pointed out to McCain once and he said it didn’t matter. The American people believed Ahmadinejad was in charge so that was good enough for him.

    He doesn’t control Iran’s military

I though that if the President gives orders they have to carry those orders out, no?

The military must respect the President and all high ranking authorities, no?

Is Ahmadinejad not the President of Iran?

KMG - thanks, nothing new is EXACTLY right.

This is NOT “Change We Can Believe In.”

    Jerimiah,
You are confusing the politacal structure of the United States with Iran’s political structure.

In Iran, the Supreme Leader of Iran is the commander in chief. Ahmadinejad is the president of Iran and does not control the military.

Its ok though, Sarah Palin probably would have been stumped as well.

    kmg,
Everyone knows that editing happens in this business. t
The best way to deal with this is for Sarah Palin to step out from behind John McCain’s apron strings and give the press unfettered access. The problem is that the McCain advisors know she is lacking on many national and international issues. So, she has been pumped full of lots of catch phrases to respond to any questions that contain certain key phrases or words, kind of like training a robot.

Proplem with unfettered access at such an early stage in the game is that it is much harder to script.

  • 12. Jeremiah  |  September 15th, 2008 at 1:16 am

    Cam,

Well, he (Ahmadinejad) and Ali Khamenei are in agreement that, in Khamenei’s own words, “this cancer (Israel) should be removed from the face of the earth”.

They are both intolerant, oppressive, and want for massive bloodshed

So, it really doesn’t make any difference then, does it? Because Gov. Palin recognizes this fact, the possibility of a dangerous threat by this country Iran.

Gov. Palin has stated the truth, then, don’t you think?

Gibson tried to set it up the interview under his own conditioned liberal thinking that we “do not” have a right to go and defend our country in the event of an imminent threat. He done it more so in denigration of President Bush, and the left’s disdain for President Bush’s noble efforts to defend America against Al Qaeda and the Taliban … and on top of this, is the fact that ABC edited the critical parts where Gov. Palin made a good case, and would help the people understand where she’s coming from.

    Why?

Liberal Bias at it’s finest! And all of it based on hate!

    Sad!

hitler hated the jews too…and we saw 61 million humans die because of it…

we learned that they dont just kill jews also…we found out that they want to dominate the world…

    and in islam…about 15% of them are radicalized…which is 150 million people…

150 million that would drop everything they are doing and follow hitler if he asked them too…

150 million that has yet to be significantly opposed by any other faction in islam…
